No. 19 Nebraska Shoots for Upset at No. 5 Maryland Sunday

The Nebraska women’s basketball team shoots for an upset of Maryland on Sunday, when the Huskers travel to College Park.

Tip-off between the Big Red and the Terrapins is set for 3 p.m.

The Huskers opened a five-day East Coast road trip with a 46-43 loss at Rutgers Thursday. Nebraska struggled offensively against the Scarlet Knights while playing without All-America point guard Rachel Theriot. The Rachel missed the first regular-season game of her career after suffering an ankle injury on Tuesday in practice. Theriot’s status is day-to-day.

Playing against one of the Big Ten’s best defenses at Rutgers, the Huskers hit just 22.1 percent of their shots from the field, including 5-for-30 threes (.167) in producing a season-low point total. Despite the offensive struggles, the Huskers fought to the finish to suffer their fourth one-possession or overtime loss on the road this season. Three of those four narrow losses have come to top-25 foes.

Maryland is the only team in the nation to produce a definitive win over the Big Red.

Senior guard Tear’a Laudermill has led the Huskers in scoring in five straight games, increasing her season averages to 13.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Maryland enters Sunday’s game riding a 14-game winning streak that includes a perfect 11-0 Big Ten start. Maryland is averaging a Big Ten-best 83.4 points while allowing 61.0 points per game. The Terps are shooting conference-bests of 48.7 percent from the field and 75.9 percent at the free throw line.

Maryland is also shooting 32.7 percent from long range. The Terps own a league-best plus-12.1 team rebound margin and a plus-2.3 team turnover margin. In Big Ten play, Maryland carries a plus-13.3 edge on the boards. Maryland leads the all time series 3-0.

Nebraska leads the Big Ten with just 11.9 turnovers per game in conference play.

Nebraska had its 17-game February winning streak snapped Thursday.

Emily Cady is averaging 12.8 rebounds per game,

Emily Cady needs just six rebounds to pass Kelsey Griffin for third on Nebraska’s career rebound list.

Emily Cady’s 1,333 career points rank No. 15 in Husker history. She needs 15 points to catch Cory Montgomery.

Tear’a Laudermill is 9 points away from joining Nebraska’s 1,000-point club.

Brandi Jeffery scored her 500th career point Thursday.

Rachel Theriot’s 444 career assists rank 19th among all active NCAA Division I players, which is third among all juniors.

Chandler needs to rein it in a little. Playing a little too fast.t

Her shooting percentage is pretty low so far this year....not sure if it's a temporary thing..or not ? Handles the ball well, and sees the court well, but has got to make some shots.

I think it's a little nerves. Her form looks good.

Kinda reminds me of Moore when she was a freshman.

I hope Nat doesn't begin to feel to much pressure from having to run the offense against this team. I noticed that T was whispering in her ear as they left the court. I also noticed that Anya seemed to be limping slightly.
