Somebody have a rivals account to see what this says?

Robin Washut

‏@RobinWashut

Here's the latest on 2013 #Nebrasketball recruit Matthew Atewe ($$$) http://nebraska.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=522&tid=162638415&mid=162638415&sid=928&style=2

basically he is focusing on watching his final 6 and how they use their big men. Wants to go to a place that focuses more on man to man defense as he struggles and doesnt enjoy zone. He is more looking for a good fit with the coaches than necessarily the prestige of the school. Still planning on using final 2 visits before March 7 announcement.

Yep. Was just typing up a summary as well but we'll skip that now. Robin's update is his summary of Charlotte's article on where he's at in the process.

.......

Do any of these recruits come out and ever say something like, "I don't really like the coaches so much, we haven't been building a very good relationship". I mean, whoever is doing the interview and write up for these schools' rivals sites is getting a positive take on where their school stands. If I'm a Charlotte 49ers fan reading that article I'm feeling pretty good about the chances Rolf landing Atewe. These write ups are great, but are we really supposed feel good about things when Robin Washut does the article and writes "Recruit X had an outstanding visit and Nebraska moves to the top of his list."?

Two things:

1) Thank you for the summaries.

2) This is why I think that the NCAA needs to say no more.  No more verbals, no tell schools your number one, no more anything from the web, no more televised who I am going to,  no more games on ESPN.

It is between you and the school until after the signed LOI is faxed.

Know it ain't gonna happen, but can we all stop hanging on the words of a bunch of teenagers?

It must really suck to have to know my job hangs on if a 5 STAR 18 year old wants to come be on my team.

Too many people making tooooooo much money on thinking they know what is going to happen in the world of young athletes and the schools they are going to go to.

sure, remember what that kid who decomitted from NU to go to Auburn said about Pelini and staff?  That wasn't exactly complimentary.

And frankly, no kid should ever say he had a bad visit with how the red carpet is pulled out for these kids.

Theres been some before where kids were taken on visits to places they didnt want to go and felt it reflected on the type of player the coach went for on his team.

Okay, okay. Sure. But basically what I'm getting at is that if your school is on a recruits final list, the recruit isn't really providing any determining info before they make their decision. Most of the time they aren't saying anything bad and are using generalized recruitspeak about "building relationships, letting the recruiting process play out, and enjoying visits. So is there any point to any of this? Why do we get all excited when Robin provides an update ($$$) when it doesn't usually say anything new or mean anything until they sign on the dotted line?

Additionally, an outside possibility, in situations like this, is that the slow-play may be coming from Coach Miles and that we are not merely waiting for a decision from the recruit.

OK, so looking at more extended film of that 4-star Texas center for 2014, Elbert Robinson, fuhgeddaboutit.  I'd take a raw but athletic 6'9" guy with a constant motor over a somewhat skilled battleship with an outboard motor puttering along.  And just take the chance that I can develop the raw kid.

Swan wins this argument, game, set and match.  (Not that it was really an argument.)

Still, if we sign Atewe, I still wouldn't plan on him coming in and being an impact player his first (or perhaps even his second) season.  He's going to take some time to develop.

Norm not sure if you saw it but my buddy that went to go watch Atewe gave me a report back and its on the previous page.  I know you like first hand info.

I went back and watched the whole Rowlett game and the other kid, the big fella, wasn't a stiff for sure.  He has some ability.  I just don't like seeing a guy with no motor.  I hope a guy like Atewe can get his poop in a group and develop (assuming we sign him; if we don't, I couldn't give a rat's rump) because he does have a motor.  And athleticism running out his ears.

my friend in CT finally made it out to see Notre Dame Prep this past week.  He attends roughly 25-30 prep schools games in New England each winter to see some of the best of the best high school players.  He saw Atewe last year and I asked him what his thoughts were on him seeing him a year later.

He says physically he is the poor mans Dwight Howard.  He said at 6'9'' his body is very developed muscularly and looks the part of a big man.  He says unfortunately as of yet it isnt showing on the court.  He said ND doesnt run the best offense in the world and it does focus more on the guards but said MA tends to get lost down low.  He said MA does not do a great job of creating space for himself to get open looks. Defensively he said he's much better but again needs to use his body to his advantage to impose his will on players as he tended to let the ball get in to the offensive player when he could have easily gotten a good front on them. He felt at this point he is easily a BCS level player defensively but offensively he looks like a mid major player.

Just thought I'd pass along some thoughts from a huge HS hoops enthusiast.

Y'know, somewhere along the way, I think I questioned the coaching that he's getting right now.  Every once in awhile they should be trying to enter it to him in the low post.  Look at that Rowlette game for example.  That Robinson kid was getting entry passes at least every now and again.  But Atewe is quicker, stronger and a better leaper than just about anyone who would be guarding him.  They should get him some touches and let him see if he can implement some posting up moves.  A nice drop step in either direction would be a good start.

he was clearly talking about the game, most likely early in the 2nd half when we went on our run.  if there is anything to read into the tweet it's the fact that he was watching our game instead of whatever else was on tv

i do notice he never sent out a tweet during the clemson game against miami today :)

In poker, they call that a "tell."  :D
