Would you rather see the year first or the player's name first?

And do you want additional info about whether the player is HS or juco?

The state they're from?

The thread titles have all sorts of different formatting and maybe make things easier to find if we had a standard format that we used.

My personal preference would be recruiting year followed by juco or HS followed by position and then name.

E.g.:  2015 Juco PF Dunktarius Ballswatter

Thoughts, peeps?

And to address the original question here, I'd say that putting HS in the thread title wouldn't be necessary, it's a bit redundant.  Juco would be fine, I think we're already doing it that way.

I've found putting the name first makes it easier to find if there's a thread already started on a player, especially if there are long periods of time with out any news on his recruitment.

Player name, year, position is my preference Juco notation when applicable.

I hear ya, but I think year and position first would help keep things kind of clean.  Name first and the other info tends to get lost or not included at all.  And when you're looking for a particular kid, you can more easily scan for a name in the thread than you can for a year if you're looking for, say, the 2015 kids we're still looking at.

I would also say that adding "VC" and once they've committed has been a good thing.  But I'm not sure I like the pinning the thread if there's no activity.  Getting to the point that you have to scroll down to find the currently active topics.

What is Ballswatter's rivals rank and what other schools are after him?

I heard that Creighton has been following Ballswatter for a while now.  He's a perfect fit for the system they run.

No, actually, I think they've put all their efforts toward signing Asswipe Johnson.

This is a pipe dream, but my preference would be for name first and then including the year as a tag.

Tags serve the purpose of showing similar posts together....you could click on a tag that shows you everyone from the 2015 class, for instance.  This way you'd be able to prioritize by name AND year.

Well, someone who has ability to edit posts could go in and edit all the recruit-specific threads and change the thread title to conform to whatever formatting we choose.

But I do think consistent formatting would be useful.  When you're looking for something in particular on the recruiting board, it's so much easier when all similar information is located in the same place for each thread title.

That's been done some, if there's a group preference, we'll go with that, otherwise, I'll probably stick with the Name, Year Position format.

There appears to be a group preference as expressed in the poll results.

My personal preference is that we do them all the same, and if that requires a mod to occasionally edit a thread title, then please do so.  Fortunately, we're only talking about a dozen or so threads per recruiting cycle.  That's like 1 per month that might need to be edited.

Norm, I wonder...Is the poll valid when you did not give us the option of voting for "Whatever the 'cut and paste' would be from whichever article/tweet/wherever we got the info from"?

Signed, the techno challenged portion of this board. ;)

Ah, but we have a mod named uneblinstu who will be happy to reformat thread titles for the technically-challenged.  :o

I'd like to add that with Juco I'd prefer "2015 JC PG Joe Schmo." As someone mentioned above it isn't necessary to list they're a high school recruit, only if they aren't.

I agree.  Assume they're a 4-year player unless otherwise indicated.

Anyone with at least 5 posts can edit the tags of any thread.

I'm not sure if the ability to tag thread easier makes things any different for people as far as layout goes.

Here's an example of a "2015" tag

I can do a bit more with tags in the future like having some defined ones and some colors.

It would be nice to have some sort of standard...I don't personally care what it is unless there is the possibility of pulling out recruits into a database based on the format....which I haven't explored. I also added some rules at the top of the forum...i'll update fully when some sort of consensus is made.
