HB Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 Pritchard had to go to the ER last night after getting a direct hit to the nads. He will DH rather than play left, at least in the first game. Ouch! Quote

Silverbacked1 Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 Good year, need to build on it next year. Kind of reminds me of the basketball team. Struggle early, big win streak, then run into some other hot/good teams down at the end. Made it fun to watch and the future looks good. Quote

Tough way to end the year...defensively we were sloppy this weekend. But it's a good year to build off of....as long as the draft doesn't kill us we should have a solid team coming back. Need to develop some starters next year and shore up the left side of the infield. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 13 who can go in the draft this year? My son and I was talking about that during the game and neither of us knew. So it was a short conversation. Quote

Possibly Roeder but doubtful. Out of that group the main concerns would be Bummer and Sinclair. The rest will be drafted in the very late rounds or not at all IMO. Quote

HB Posted June 1, 2014 Author Report Posted June 1, 2014 Good year; 41 wins was a lot for this group. Hurts to go out with a hit by pitch, 2 errors and a balk, but it was part of who we were. We lose pretty heavily through graduation and the draft. But I think Ersty is putting his stamp on the program and getting buy in to how he wants us to play and act. We have to reload; I am optimistic for the future but improving on this year's record won't be easy. Long term it looks good; recruiting and coaching are showing improvement. Losing Pritchard, Deleon and Hirsch to graduation among major contributors; also Bublitz and Kildow. Bugs, we have a bunch of draft-eligible underclassmen. I expect Sinclair and Bummer to leave, and probably Kelly also. Kubat, Roeder, Darby and Lubach are possible. The only draft-eligible sophomore I can think of is Christensen, but he's not going anywhere. But we will have some major holes to fill. It would be huge keeping Jackson Reetz among our high school guys but that is starting to look less likely. Quote

He obviously wasn't near as good as Sinclair was this year but he's a taller lefty that had pretty good success out of the Cape League last summer. Sinclair is very effective but he doesn't throw very hard. I think Kelly gets drafted but not high enough to leave. At least that's what I'm hoping for. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 Hope we can keep Sinclair and Bummer. I think, and this is just me, that Kelly stays because his cousin turn down the money last year to play with him. So he will repay that by staying, unless the money is wayyyyy to good. Next year could be like this one where we start slow then catch fire as it warms up. Hopefully next spring will be a spring and not a long winter. This team played much better when it was warmer. Silverback I think you are right. With how the MLB draft operates now in terms of offering money I don't think Pat gets drafted high enough to leave. Incoming recruit Harrison is probably a lock to sign. And we will probably be fortunate to keep Reetz. Quote
HB Posted June 1, 2014 Author Report Posted June 1, 2014 Agree with 13 about Bummer; he has more upside than Sinclair as a lefty with decent velocity and great movement on his pitches. He has really good stuff, but struggled with control. The pros will take a chance on him harnessing his location, since the "stuff" is already there. He does need to learn how to field his position, however. Despite being a senior with no signing leverage, I expect Hirsch to go fairly early. He has good size, Consistently throws 91 as a lefty. If Kelly gets drafted at a decent spot, he will be gone. No leverage the following year. Kubat, Roeder, Darby and Lubach will be interesting. Odds are they will be here but it's not open and shut. We just signed a marginal juco catcher for 2015, so perhaps Lubach is projecting higher than we would think. Darby is a good sized left side batter who can run; those eye test guys seem to get a shot. Quote

Saw this posted on the Rivals board...we should have a pretty tough schedule next year. May be tougher to get to 40 wins but it should be easier to get an At Large if we fail to win the Big 10. Also sets us up with a chance to host if we play good ball in the regular season. Non-Conference: Loyola Marymount (3) Cal State Fullerton (2) Indiana State (2) LSU (1) Texas A&M (1) Mississippi State (1) Big Ten: vs Michigan (3) vs Minnesota (3) vs Ohio State (3) vs Purdue (3) at Maryland (3) at Iowa (3) at Northwestern (3) at Illinois (3) Quote

Also doesn't Texass come to Lincoln this year. The games with LSU MSU & aTm must be in Minute Maid Park I'm guessing. Quote
huskerbaseball13 Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Unfortunate we couldn't find a way to win the regional....looks like we probably would have hosted a Super if we did. Very weird year, going to be some different names in Omaha. Quote
49r Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 How about that all-ACC super, Maryland vs. Virginia? That might be fun. Quote
Cazzie22 Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 We need a big bat in the line up. Van Horn always had at least one big bopper that could hit for power and the new balls next year might reintroduce the long ball to the game. Maybe Boldt moves into the 3 hole but then who leads off? Quote
