I always love to research high school prospects and teams, especially ones that might come up to Oregon every year.  When I was reading up on Bishop Gorman for this year with their 2 5 stars 2015 prospects there was a bunch of stuff about Findlay prep thats also in Nevada.  They always have a stacked team but this years roster seemed particularly loaded.

Can You Imagine this for a HIGH SCHOOL:

Craig Victor 2014 4* Arizona

Jonah Bolden 2014 4* und

Rashad Vaughn 2014 5* und

Kelly Oubre 2014 5* kansas

Dillon Brooks 2015 3 *

Jalen Poysen 2014 3*

Horace Spencer 2015 4*

Derryck Thornton 2016 4*

Justin jackson 2016 5*

I mean 3 5*'s, 4 4*'s, and 2 3*'s on one high school team.

Bill Callahan could take those guys to the most impressive 6-6 season ever.

I hope a HS basketball team would play more than 12 games and even with that level of talent in HS I bet Callahan could coach this team to better than a .800 win pct even though its not his forte.

That's the kind of team that makes the coach look pretty good.

Okay, obviously the joke was a big miss.

Bill Callahan was notorious for recruiting 4 and 5 star kids to Nebraska and horrifically underachieving with them hovering right around .500 with them.

It was less about the sport, or the number of games played, than it was about how even if you have a team loaded with talent, you still need the right coach to get them to perform.  Conversely, a good coach can usually achieve decent results with less regarded talent.

IOW, stars in and of themselves don't mean as much as perhaps we'd like them to.  And I was just trying to make that point in a kind of lighthearted way.

I'll try harder next time.

Timing, 49r.  It's all timing.
