MidwestDrummer Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/gamecast?gameId=400498695 St. Francis Brooklyn topples Miami, 66-62 Associated Press CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Jalen Cannon's layup with 1:02 left in overtime put St. Francis Brooklyn ahead for good, and the Terriers knocked off defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion Miami 66-62 on Friday night. Wayne Martin scored 17 points, Cannon finished with 14 and Ben Mockford added 11 for the Terriers (1-0), who won despite missing their first 13 shots of the game. Donnavan Kirk scored 16, Garrius Adams had 15 and Rion Brown scored 11 for the Hurricanes (0-1), who shot only 31 percent. Adams made a layup with 2.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, but Miami never led in the extra session. Miami missed all 15 of its tries from 3-point range, the last of those a potential go-ahead try by Davon Reed after the Hurricanes forced a turnover down by two in the final seconds of overtime. The Hurricanes had made at least one in all 172 of their previous games at Bank United Center, the team's on-campus arena. The Hurricanes unveiled three banners before the game to commemorate last season's ACC regular-season title, ACC tournament title and berth in the NCAA Sweet 16. They'll be among a very small number of reminders of what Miami was a year ago. Only 13.3 percent of the scoring from last season is back, and only one returnee -- Brown -- scored more than 47 points for that 29-win club. The `Canes were senior-laden a year ago, with Kenny Kadji, Durand Scott, Trey McKinney Jones, Julian Gamble and Reggie Johnson all exhausting their eligibility and star guard Shane Larkin leaving for the NBA two years early. So it's a new-look Miami team now, and the start wasn't exactly smooth, either. Even after the 0 for 13 start, St. Francis still found a way to lead 27-26 at the half. The Terriers finished the half 10 for 21 after that dreadful beginning while Miami was a mere 8 for 29 from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Martin's layup with 7:47 left gave St. Francis a 47-40 lead, but the Hurricanes answered with a 10-2 run -- taking the lead on a pair of free throws by Adams with 3:17 remaining. Quote
hskr4life Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 Saw that... could be a chance at going to Omaha with 1 or possibly 0 losses. Quote
tcp Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 Miami lost their team from last season, so this game shouldn't have worried anyone. Just be glad we're playing them this season instead of last.... Quote

royalfan Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 not good. Was hoping for a perceived good club coming in here. Quote

hskr4life Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 Other Big 10 teams struggled a bit in their games... Michigan was tied at half with Mass Lowell before blowing them out in the second. Wisconsin put away St. Johns... good win. Purdue edged Northern Kentucky by 1 at home. Minny used a strong first half and even second half to beat Lehigh. Overall... the Big 10 is perfect right now! Much like I try to tell the people who love to talk about the boys in blue, one game doesn't make or break the season Quote
hskr4life Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 UMASS Will be our first good test I think. First game away from home and... they beat Boston College today. They are looking to probably be undefeated when we play them if they get by LSU in their next game. Quote
MandRHusker Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 UMass will be a good test. Not sure how good BC is, but they beat them by 13 at a neutral site. Had a big guy, Lulanne, lead them in scoring with 27. Lulanne is a 6'10" 253 lb bruiser. Not a good match up for us. Should be interesting to see how we fair. Quote

It goes both ways though MandR...he has to cover our quickness in the post. So depending on the flow of the game, it may hurt or may help us. But other than Leslee, we really do not have a banger in the middle. Quote
