There's a thread that I started over on the College Hoops page basically asking the Creighton posters here to tell us how they plan to make up for the loss of Echinique.  The general consensus seemed to be that Will Artino is pretty good.  Better on the offensive end than Ech but not as good defensively.  They also think that freshman who chose them over us is pretty good and has good size.  He's like 6'10" and 250#.

Not to bring CU onto the board....but they have an article in the OWH stating pretty much kind of my thought process posted above.  By going smaller, it can make for a tough match up for teams when they are on offense.

Don't worry, this is the Adam Dunn of boards but instead of Home Run, Walk ,and strikeout the three outcomes are Running out of steam, Cip videos, and devolving into a discussion about Creighton.

The only reason this works in spurts is because Wragge is a dead eye 3 pt shooter when healthy and his teammate is one of the most efficient players in all of college basketball.  As coach K said before the third round NCAA tourney game last year, "When Wragge is on the floor he demands defensive attention because he can torch you from 3 if you leave him open."  His ability to shoot requires opposing big men to chase him beyond the arc, which leaves Doug one on one where he can be deadly.

Wragge's also a bulked up, extremely strong, redshirt senior.  He could not do what he does now in the paint on defense during his freshman or sophomore seasons.

So, Creighton Fan, rather than turning this into a thread hijack, I'm interested in learning what you guys think about your team but I'll ask you over on the general basketball page.  I just posted a question to Cousin Mose over there.  I'll copy your above post and ask my question over there.

Of course on defense the exact opposite could be said.  Remember Nebraska had the smallest team in America under Doc and that team lost several close games because they got beat inside.

Right, but, we aren't the "smallest" team in the NCAA.  We have some long wings and even some decent size at guard if Petteway or Webster are in.  As I mentioned before, much, much easier to find ways to defend against the post than it is versus a very athletic wing/guard.  Villanova is another team that has shown this.  Not overly huge, but long wings, doubles the post a lot, and all 5 guys can step out and shoot and handle the ball.

So many people always assume that the big men on the offensive side of the ball will kill a smaller team.  But on the flip side, 99% of coaches think defense first....so if NU is a bit smaller, that may take their big man out of the game. I want to say it was KU about 5 years ago when we were really small sat one of their big almost the entire 2nd half because Self said he couldn't match up out on the perimeter vs NU's smaller lineup.  So our quickness/length on the wings may dictate the way other teams try and defend us.  This may take their big man out of the game.
