ShortDust Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Are we hoping for a miracle at this point or is anyone actually confident?Wish we weren't at the point of hoping for miracles, but I think that's where we are here. IMODefinitely not confident but I don't think it's going to take a miracle. This is the way I see it. There have been clues in our recruiting that suggest we have a chance. There have also been people making guesses based on timing, tweets, and twitter follows that Ohio State is his choice. I'm not drawing the conclusion that some are when they say its over, he's gone to OSU. I highly doubt that anyone outside of Elbert's tight circle knows what his choice is yet. So, when he announces on Tuesday, it could be anything. Am I confident that the choice is Nebraska? No. But I'm not sold that the choice is Ohio State. He could pick LSU as well.Would you be confident if his final two didn't include tOSU?I'm not sold that Ohio State is his choice. Heck, before this last Thursday people were worried that he was in love with LSU and that's where he would end up.What do you know? Is this between us and LSU? Not going to go into detail, but to answer your second question, I believe this to be the scenario. Needless to say, things can (and do) change in recruiting. But I do feel very good about our chances. Not expecting you to go into detail, reveal your source, etc. So it's your belief that Ohio State isn't in his final 2 and it's Nebraska and LSU showdown? Interesting. Can you tell me if this information was gathered or known before ERs visit to OSU? I guess, how recent is this info? Like you said, things change, but you're fairly confident that the NU/LSU final still stands? Yes, it's my belief that it's us or LSU. This belief stems from information that I became privy to this afternoon. I'm curious as hell now to see what happens on Tuesday. Do you happen to know what time he plans to tweet out his choice? The odds between us and LSU seem different as I still stated that they had a better chance. I wonder where you got your information from today. Pretty pumped, but won't get my hopes up if he heads the other direction. Quote

LSU was all Elbert's idea. I think the story was that the AAU coach was helping his niece?? move to college and Elbert went along for the ride. He liked the campus so much that he wanted to go back. I don't think anyone was pushing LSU on Elbert. The AAU coach is even from Louisiana and from everything I've read, it doesn't sound like he's ever pushed ER to go there or even ever suggested that it would be good for him. There's no benefit for Elbert to go to LSU over Nebraska. Worse conference, lesser facilities, no significant history (such as an OSU) to speak of. The clues, or lack thereof, in our recruitment of big men to finish out this class point to Elbert announcing that he's N on Tuesday. Now hurry up and get here Tuesday, so we can know. Quote

Doesn't hurt to have someone state somethings. They could or could not be all correct. He is basing things off of opinions. As for the Elbert shocking osu part, I don't know if he would do it for all the publicity. There would be stories about it I'm sure, especially when we would play them each year. ajb5856 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I have no doubt that Harriman was down in Dallas to see Elbert. We won't know until tomorrow if it was because he chose us or if it was our last ditch effort to sway him. Harriman works quite a bit with the posts. Kenya was tied up here in Lincoln. If you watched Elbert and Harriman for the few minutes they were down on the sideline during his visit, they were joking around a lot, even doing what looked like some post moves/techniques. But, all we can gather from this is that the relationship is positive. He probably had very similar experiences at all of his visits. Quote

Sorry, guys. I was making some Chicken Coq au Vin last night and not available to participate in the getting this thread over 40 pages. I'll try to pull my weight more today. (And that's a lot of weight lately.) BTW, the Coq au Vin recipe I was using involves preparing most of the dish the night before. It also calls for using two bottles of red wine, which I thought was excessive. So, I just used 1 1/2 and the other half, well, it didn't get wasted. Quote

But maybe it was not necessary for Kenya to even go down there, as in Elbert was already good to come here. And maybe we are overplaying the entire Harriman in Dallas thing. Was Smith really being recruited by Harriman? I thought it was Craig Smith. Could be wrong but Craig Smith is the assistant with all the Texas connections. Can someone confirm/clarify this? Quote
jdostal Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Most of my doubt comes from the already-exhausted topics involving twitter and a disbelief that we could beat out OSU for a recruit, served over a solid base of decathecting from the ER recruitment. I'd say "my source" is reliable, but certainly not infallible especially considering this is recruiting. Norm Peterson 1 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Maybe the reason Harriman went is because there's a 7'10" kid from Brisbane who's been nicknamed "The Australian Stallion" whom Harriman is trying to get lined up to play at a prep school in Dallas. No? OK, then the best I got is Elbert. Quote
