I thought I would share the observations from a couple of the DN student sportswriters.  I smiled at a couple of their takes.  I will allow any of you to form your own opinions.

I immediately went from reading to skimming once they suggested that Benny Parker would be the obvious choice to start at PG.

Overall I'd say they hit the mark pretty well.

You can tell from their content that Izu is the beat writer and Holstein is the assistant sports editor.

Lanny Holstein is also the producer for "The Drive" on 93.7. 

 

Yeah the Parker comment about battling for the PG spot was interesting.  I'm not in the camp that wants Parker out, I see some potential that can help the team in a reserve role and maybe develop into a starter down the road.  But I don't think he'll be starting next year.  The battle for the PG spot will be between Webster and Biggs.

 

Did anybody find the Talley chewing gum thing a little out of nowhere?  Didn't get that.

They had a little bit of info wrong.  They said that Talley replaced Parker at point toward the end of the season.  It actually happened maybe about a third of the way into it.  I'm pretty sure it happened before conference play began.  Also, they said Shields showed why he deserved time on the floor midway through the season.  I'd say, more accurately, it was at the beginning of the season just after he recovered from his elbow surgery.  They made it sound like he wasn't getting minutes early until he had proved himself worthy or soemthing.  I think he would have been getting minutes right off the bat if he hadn't been hurt.  And he was showing himself well from the very first game he played in.

 

Those are just nitpicky points, though.  Overall, interesting analysis.  They'd fit right in talking Husker hoops over here.

Parker had 16 starts, so he would have lost his job shortly into conference play which is when Shields and Rivers became fixtures in the starting lineup, which i believe was right around the trips to Michigan and MSU. Game 16 was the Michigan Game.
