While my favorite team in the past 15 years is still Doc's Mighty Mites, this team has shoved their way into the second spot by sheer determination and grit (the same qualities the Mites had, and the teams are in fact eerily similar).

Just spending time reflecting on how serious the accomplishments by this squad have been. It's easy to overlook given their record, and all those rotten blowouts. But what these guys have done is mind-boggling.

No matter what happens tomorrow--and I actually expect at least one tough half of hoops--I'm proud of these guys for taking an almost surrendered season and turning it into something a lot more fun than even the most optimistic fan could have asked for. Here's to the Big Red!

I am not one to pile on Doc, as I liked him, but holy smokes can you imagine our level of offensive output this year under him.  And we would not have defended the arc well at all.  So glad we didn't get the S. Sioux kid.

funny how things just went south from that over achieving team doc had.  I remember the excitement for the future after that year.

Marcus Perry was a baller (bad feet & all).

Yep, I have always thought that if we could have pulled out those few heartbreaking loses that season and made it to the dance and won a/some games....that it would have been a great/cool national story ( the mighty mites ).    Maybe that could have spurred on some better things recruiting wise.    Things were going well to that point ( over-achieving for sure ) for Doc and he just couldn't get that corner turned.   His 5th year we had that opportunity to get that corner turned again and just couldn't at the end there.

ps- Marcus was only on Doc's first team...maybe his second, almost positive not on the mighty-mite team.

While I think the win total this year was at or slightly above what most of us expected given what was in the cupboard, the thing I have loved is that we have been comptetitive in most of the games this year.

Don't forget if Doc was still here he would have those juco players so the team would look different. I liked Doc too but I'm ok with how everything turned out.

I think it's above what most of us expected.  Not at.  And probably more than slightly above.  The thread from the beginning of the year was enlightening.  I think I said I'd be happy with 12 wins and thrilled with 14.  Think about what we had coming back.  We returned less than 25% of our scoring from a team that won 4 conference games a year ago.

Our recruiting class basically evaporated after Doc was let go and we brought in only 2 of the 5 players Doc had recruited.

So, you added two true freshmen and a couple of redshirts who hadn't done a lot thus far in their Husker careers to a group that accounted for less than a 4th of the scoring punch on a team that couldn't score very well anyway.

Who expected 15 wins out of this group?

Not me.  And I'm about as much of a sunshine pumper as there is.
