I see a lack of slashers and shot creators.  There is no Petteway or JPJ on this team.

I wouldn't want that style of player for this team.

JL showed flashes as a slasher and shot creator last year. He makes very quick decisions, plays fast but under control. Jay Wright had a rule that his players had 0.5 seconds to make a decision to shoot it, pass it, or dribble (but could only dribble if you're going north and south). JL is this style of player and I believe it's what you need in a well-oiled Hoiberg offense. Requires constant movement, quick decisions and efficiency. The offense looked very good at times towards the end of last season when things were clicking, and this year's roster does have more talent. A Petteway/McGowens style of player would make it more clunky and less efficient.  This is why I'm a bit worried about how well Coleman will mesh. The only player on this roster who should be a "ball-stopper"  at times should be Mast, pulling the opposing big away from the basket and methodically probing the defense while the other 4 players are cutting and/or screening. Like we did with Walker last year.

We do need someone to step up and be a PNR playmaker, especially for end of shot clock situations. Petteway was poor at this when he was forced into that role his junior year. Palmer would have the potential to excel in that role. Hopefully Coleman can be that guy.
