Where my temporary Louisville fans at?

Neb Nets

Recommended Posts

Yep, me again. I know, I know…I should be supportive of all the Big Ten teams still in the tourney. And any other conference team, I would be rooting for them against Louisville tonight. But not Iowa. Sorry, nope.

Related note: Can’t believe the Buckeyes knocked out UCONN. Wow!

Dear Neb Nets:  I went to bed last night thinking the same thing. But somehow this morning allegiance to the conference has overtaken my distaste for Iowa. I once saw a campaign poster for a political candidate who, admitting his own flaws but saying they were less than those of his opponent, said "hold your nose and vote for me".  That's what I will be doing.  I kinda hate myself.

It’s funny - as a Nebraska WBB fan, I look at the Iowa WBB program and I get the same feeling that I would imagine an Iowa Volleyball fan gets when they observe the Nebraska Volleyball program. It’s a feeling of dismay and resignation. A feeling where you cannot escape the reality that their program is better than our program by every possible measure. It just is what it is.

I get what you’re saying, HUD. You’re right in the fact that NU has won 5 national titles in VB and I don’t think Iowa VB has ever even sniffed the VB Final Four. Also, regarding the overall all-time records between the schools, it’s much more even in WBB than in VB. (Has Iowa ever even beaten NU in VB?)

Still, I look at Iowa WBB and they are widening the gap between us and them with each passing year recently. NU hasn’t beaten Iowa in WBB since 2019, I believe, and I don’t see that trend reversing 2 years from now after CC has graduated. Iowa WBB has reached a point where their success breeds more success (much like NU in VB) And in terms of recruiting, player development, coaching staff, and coverage in the national media…..Friends, Iowa WBB is leaving us in the dust.

Like most here, not an Iowa fan. But as a fan of basketball they really were impressive. Last night they were on fire. They executed like clockwork from the get go.

Clark had 40, which is not rare, but the supporting cast was on fire too. Everything worked or them. And they played together as a team really well.

OK, it's the last time I'll compliment them.

Volleyball...does Iowa have a Volleyball team ?

Yeah, we consistently beat the snot of them in VB!  And there is another dimension of that sort of beating them.  While IA did get the last year's NE girls bb player of the year (McCabe), that comes nowhere near the quality and number of IA HS VB players that have come Husker way!

Gonna hurt a little bit to get this next comment out, but it's from the "give credit where it's due" department.  I have watched Clark for the better part of three years. In her last several games, there has been a noticeable change (for the better!) in her on court behavior.  Taunting the opposition ( players on the court, players on the bench, and even fans in their seats), repeatedly harping on the refs (reduced but not totally gone), and flopping upon being touched - I didn't notice much of that last night. I don't even recall seeing much of the left arm bar - as tho she has been told that that will be called. Makes it easier to admire her skills.

I don't think in the many years of watching WBB I have ever seen a performance to match Clark's last night.  She was setting every body up.  The announcer said during the tournament I believe she is shooting 58% from 25 ft or further.  She shoots quite a few from long distance.

I honestly cant wait to see how her play translates to the WNBA. See how they guard her and how she gets open in the WNBA could change a teams chances real quick in the WNBA

I wish the WNBA made multimillionaires out of their draftees - maybe Clark would forgo her senior season at Iowa and go pro this summer! 😆 Would any of the schools in the B1G outside of Iowa miss her? Nope.
But alas, we all have one more season of Clark torching us to endure ☹️

Sorry, Neb Nets, but it's even worse than that.  Clark has a Covid year in her gym bag. Should she choose to use it,  TWO more years of torment lie in our path forward. She has a solid shot at outlasting Grassley and then asking Iowa to appoint her to his seat in the senate.

Hard to see how a Nebraska fan could think a team that we play 2-3 times every year, and directly recruit against, should win a natty.   I'll be for whoever Iowa plays, a nd that applies every game all year, except perhaps when they play Creighton.

Not a big Creighton fan, but seeing them bounce Iowa out in round 2 of the Women’s NCAA Tourney last year? On Iowa’s home court, no less? That was absolutely delightful for me to watch.

And that satisfaction may have to sustain me for at least another season 😕

Agreed, never rout for Iowa except against Creighton.

According to WNBA rules Clark cannot forego her senior season unless she plays over seas. She can give up her covid one.  One more year at Iowa and she will be making big money in the WNBA.

Once she hits the WNBA she'll be on a rookie scale contract according to her draft position, maybe $80-90k her first year. She'd fare better in Europe during the winter months if she chooses that route. But with her marketability she may do better not playing in Europe.

Denigrate as much as you will.  That Iowa game vs Louisville was a thing of beauty.   I don't see how disparaging Iowa makes us any better.  The way to beat Iowa is to get better than they are.  It has happened.

Iowa is our rival. Real Huskers never root for them.  Go be a Hawkeye.

It doesn’t necessarily make us “better”… but just like Creighton… basically no one likes them.  Rooting FOR them in the same sense doesn’t make us better either.
