hoop_head Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 At the conclusion of the Wyoming game Matt mentioned that he thought the Huskers really wanted a shot at MSU. Is there something there I'm not remembering? Pretty sure both those games were wins last year. Is it just because they're the next conference opponent and an opportunity for a precious road win? Or something more? Red Don 1 Quote

Or something more? Googled an article. It mentioned, our home game with MSU, was cancelled due to Nebraska covid concerns towards the end of last season. Also mentioned, this is the only regular season meeting between the two teams this year. Not sure if this has anything to do with it. Might just be, some rivalries are developing in the B1G. Should be a good one. hoop_head, mwm89 and Red Don 1 2 Quote
redsteve Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 This game with MSU is probably going to be a good indicator of where we really are as a team this year. They're at this point a mid pack B1G team. We've got to prove we're not. They have lost a couple of players, but have also seen the pace pick up for themselves. Their having sort of an up and down year so far, but they have decent size inside, and some quickness, and shooters, in their guards. The key is probably Clouden...must slow her down a lot. The balance of the team is newer, but there's some talent. As always, must look at the fact we play on their home court. That's worth a least 10 points in the B1G. mwm89, 12dozen and Red Don 1 1 1 Quote
Red Don Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Game Page Headline mentions the same thing, but no follow-up in the article. I think your (and Red Steve's) conclusion that its the next game (they're all important) in the conference run and (hopefully) a road win is probably it rather than their being something more too it. https://huskers.com/news/2021/12/28/womens-basketball-huskers-hungry-for-shot-at-spartans.aspx mwm89 1 Quote
HUD Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 My memory of last years Mich. St. at NU is a little different. They are the ones that backed out of what was probably a loss for them. That cost us a chance for a winning record for regular season. Also I don't like their (Barbie Doll) coach. hoop_head and Red Don 2 Quote

I was basing my post on an article from SBNation. It did appear to have an MSU bias. Quote is: "It marks the third-straight game in the series at the Breslin Center after last year’s late season game in Lincoln was canceled just hours before tip-off due to contract tracing concerns among the Husker program." hoop_head Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Matt just mentioned what HUD said....that they backed out just hours before Senior day last year. I'd forgotten about all of that. Red Don 1 Quote
HUD Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Our whole team looks up tight on offense. If we don't loosen up could be a loss. Also way too many offensive rebounds given up. Red Don 1 Quote

Cazzie22 Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 MSU is beating us on the boards and playing aggressive defense. Jaz hit a late three that I hope gets us going. Clouden has 10 and will be tough to stop. Red Don 1 Quote
redsteve Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) We're getting mugged so far in the first half....beat up physically. And as happened many times before....not many called fouls. Must get physical and pound the boards...getting beat there. Our three shooting....ouch Clouden is their offense primarily. Cazzie22 Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Pretty poor performance as it is 37-26. MSU is playing better defense than we have seen all season. Quote
HUD Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Izzy is having a really tough day so far but she isn't the only one. Cayton trying to block a clouden 3pt attempt was laughable. 3 free throws by her and Cayton gets jerked. Quote

HUD Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Cravens and Bourne total 2 rebounds. Shelly and Haiby have 10 total. Our starting posts need to get a lot tougher. Why isn't Weidner playing more. Red Don and Cazzie22 1 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Our post play has to improve Cravens is limited offensively and Bourne is rushing her inside shots. We need to toughen up and get to the free throw line. Again, some credit has to be given to MSU. mwm89 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Clouden has 4 fouls. We have no excuses, need to make hay. Work the ball and quit casting up threes. Quote
redsteve Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) Sam can't do it all herself...where is everyone else ? Keep feeding Markowski inside and it could change the game. Edited December 30, 2021 by redsteve Cazzie22 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted December 30, 2021 Report Posted December 30, 2021 Is Porter out? Moriarity has been guarding Clouden much of the time. Defense and working the ball on offense might get us over the hump. If it stays close Clouden will make the difference. Quote
