I have also been impressed with our defense. We have 1 error this year.  I believe that was in the 2nd inning of the 1st game and nothing since.

I really like this team.  Our line-up doesn't give pitchers a break.  Does strike out too much.  We have a good pitching staff, that are learning their roles.  Our defense seems to make all the routine plays.  I think we should contend.  I think Michigan is probably the favorite right now.

I don't trust or give any credence in polls until around the 6th week for football and around the 4th week for basketball. Far too much speculation and assumptions in those polls.

 

National polls aside, the fact they can't even get a good sense on 13 teams in a conference they cover for their jobs is even more mind-numbing.

Love the hitting so far minus the strike outs.  Overall, pitching and D has been solid.  We should be in the top 5 at the end of the year.  Still think it'll be tough to get more than 1 Big 10 team in since we didn't play a non-con.

With power, strikeouts often follow.  Contact philosophy versus all or nothing mentality; especially when the count is not favorable.

Winning 3 out of 4 each weekend or 2 out of 3 each weekend will be good for me.  I think with the stupidity of the Big Ten schedule makers and not allowing out of conference games, I don't see it being enough to take out Michigan or make the tournament.

Bumping this thread for tomorrows game.

2 - 2 top of 5.  Hallmark with a solo shot to start the inning.  Shay allowed a 2 run 2 out home run in the bottom of the 1st.

On a side note, magic number is now at 4.

Shay with a hard luck bottom of the 5th.  A single to lead off the inning, then a chopper over the head of Max goes for a double(would have probably been a double play at home), then Max boots a ball.  Later, gets squeezed and the batter eventually gets a sac fly.

 

Now, OSU leads 5 - 2 in the bottom of the 6th.

Needless to say, we strike out WAY too much!  I know there is risk/reward involved, but good grief we need to demonstrate more discipline at the plate.  Now again Shay is not pitching all that good.

While we do strike out way too much, the OSU pitcher is tied for 3rd in the conference in strikeouts.

 

Shay's outing wasn't horrible today.  Hard luck 5th was his undoing.  His last outing he gave up seeing eye singles in the 1st, but settled down afterwards.

I feared this type of performance after last night.  Hopefully we can bounce back later today with great focus and determination or we could be trying to get a W tomorrow just to break even in the pod.  Not that I have completely given up on this game, but it is very bleak right now!

I certainly agree you have to give a pitcher his due, and this one's success is duly noted.  However, of course I'm referring to the totality of the season in regards to strikeouts, regardless of the pitcher.

And I don't feel good about any double header (even if it's a different opponent).
