There are talks about another Big Ten realignment. Minnesota insider Greg Flugaur reports this came from a Big Ten source.

Wonder how this "discussion point" aligns with the impending retirement plans of one Jim Delany. Hmmm.

this doesn't really effect basketball at all, but this would make college football even more flawed than it already is. the conferences are already unbalanced as it is. there's 5 power conferences yet only 4 teams make the playoff. makes no sense. and then you have teams like ucf and boise that go undefeated and don't even get a chance to play for a championship. what other sport can you go undefeated and not have a chance to play for a championship? not to mention notre dame who doesn't even have to play a conference championship game and gets an auto bid to the playoff. extremely flawed sport right now.

Here's an interesting proposal to get rid of the FCS cupcakes:

https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/02/26/former-big-12-president-proposes-strategic-alliance-with-the-pac-12-the-conferences-should-embrace-the-future-together/amp/

A former Big 12 president wants the Big 12 and Pac-12 to partner up and play crossover games for their nonconference games every year.

Not a horrible idea. But if I was Oklahoma or Texas, the idea of partnering with the Pac-12 would drive me to want to move to the Big Ten. Or at least partner with the Big Ten instead.

I don't like it. I liked the idea of Arizona & ASU joining the Big 12 more than this.

Not to derail too much, but I think it's still applicable. If FBS conferences go with this approach, it would likely cause more FBS bottom dwellers to defect to Division II.

But that's not the worst thing. It's almost like "rightsizing." Savannah State has taken a stance on this and other schools may eventually follow suit:

Well it seems that UNO "right-sized" by dropping football altogether. Others are doing that, as well.
