OT: "Brand Logos" Are Coming to the NBA

It has been announced this weekend that there will be 2.5" x 2.5" patch on the front of NBA jerseys. These patches will be sponsorships which are managed by each team. It is expected to generate about $100M in revenue for the league. The NBA will not include these patches on jerseys sold via its retail channels, however each team has the option to include these patches in their retail stores. This will be a three-year pilot program.

This is the first of the four major sports leagues in the U.S. to do this, so it will be interesting to see how this affects other leagues in the future.

Ideally it would lower the price of tickets, but we don't live in an ideal world.

It takes effect when Nike will be producing the jerseys for the 2017-18 season. The Nike swoosh on the right shoulder with the NBA team's brand-of-choice logo of their choosing on the left.

Certainly would be poetic justice, since adidas produces them now without a logo.
