Scholarships

I was working on a scholarship matrix like we have for the men's team and I admit I'm not nearly as knowledgeable. 

 

I was noticing that the roster for this year is at 14. I assumed that we had a walk-on but couldn't figure out who it was. I looked at last year's roster and noticed that we only had 13. Given we had 4 Seniors and are adding 5 Freshmen, are we simply oversigned at this point?  Could someone clarify what's up?

Gotcha.

Scholarships are year to year so it's probable that Wood is back off if everyone stays.

Assuming every one stays we have one open scholarship available unless Alicia Ostrander applies for and is granted another year.

Also I was unaware that Power 5 scholarships for the women are no longer year to year so if you're on scholarship, you're on scholarship.

I would be very surprised if everyone stays.  Releases are already in place for a couple players; I don't know if the new coach can persuade them to stay, but there will likely be some attrition.  

 

Emily should keep her scholarship.  She is an outstanding, selfless leader.  With 15 scholarships and and 8-9 player rotation, we definitely have room for someone of her team orientation.   Teams need players like her.  Devoted, dedicated, loyal, helps the best players improve.   Spend 5 minutes with her and you know what a special person she is.  Not to mention that she shot 44% from 3 this year!

Just wanted to clarify, because I got a private message asking if I was saying Emily Wood wasn't scholarship worthy:

I was joking about myself, because I had put that "Emily Wood IS a walk-on" and someone corrected me stating that she actually received a scholarship (which I was not aware of), so I just replied putting, Emily Wood WAS a walk-on (joking that I had made a typo, when I really hadn't). Sorry if it came across incorrectly. Was mocking my own mistake. I've met Emily on multiple occasions - she might be the most deserving scholarship player out there. Fantastic person. So again, sorry if that came across incorrectly.
