Because it's good to sometimes use "facts" on a forum to illustrate a point...rather than only opinions. And a good read on the game https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/womens-basketball/alexis-markowski-scores-18-as-nebraskas-defense-stifles-florida-atlantic/article_16b160d9-6179-55d2-b84a-ed246d7e61f3.html?utm_source=omaha.com&utm_campaign=%2Fnewsletter-templates%2Flocal%2Flocal-sports&utm_medium=cio&lctg=eef307049a13dbbc07&tn_email_eh1=f2b4b3291a25f3303e34a3f0131f1bfb5de087bc5b23544fdac0d22900a240cd

Talking about minutes for starters and subs I looked at B1G stats. Markowski is again this year, leading the conference in rebounding. But interestingly she is not even in the B1Gs top 25 in minutes played per game. AM is 5th in points scored per game. So, what might be the results if she played more minutes....add Jazz, and Potts, and White etc.... By this time of the season you know who is the most effective at given positions. Maybe this subbing process will change once the B1G season starts ? I get it's still preseason so use lots of players....give them some real, on the floor time. Petrie (sp) is improving, And some others.

This may not be our toughest game of the year, but hopefully we start fast and set the tone early. Expect the entire bench plays tonight if we in fact get a good start and take control of the game. We might see some individual good scoring/rebounding games by our girls. The last game should have a bit of a wakeup call. Wonder if we'll see some full court press....if we have enough able bodies to do it anyway. The owls have three starters that usually does the scoring. One guard in particular. They appear to be a decent team on paper. But maybe not B1G caliber. On BTN+

Wonder how much that team cost TCU ? The reality of the "new" transfer fiasco.

Unfortunately for listening to game.... I will miss most of it. We're having Thanksgiving family dinner at 2:00. Hope there will be a Youtube to watch later. Good luck ladies ! GBR ! HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE !!

Simple Don't wholesale make 3-4 substitutions all the time. Rotate in max 2 at a time. Replace those first subs.. out first. Creighton subbed maybe one at a time. Their best 5 played about 85-90% of the minutes. That's what most of the better teams do.
-
Observation and we've talked about this before. And yes it's just an opinion. That game is another example different coaches, approach to player usage. Creighton used the 5 starters, most of the minutes by far, and they scored most of the points by far. And when they did that, their player to player chemistry seemed to work well. We do the other, almost opposite approach, where we play the whole bench. (I know we have injury issues) We usually have a different roster on the floor at any given time, through out the game. Just wonder, ultimately, how productive that is. Lastly, we're did compete. Defensive lapse's (sp) hurt. Lack of scoring from guards hurt. Like already said we got behind early and couldn't sustain the momentum for very long. Markowski had maybe her best game for a while. She kept us in the game, most of the game. Watched replay today. (Mon) Had we shot better as a team, we would have won. So moving on to next one.

11-20 Watched some of the Iowa game last weekend. They will win lots of games. Clark wasn't drilling the basket constantly, at least when I watched. Still has those sneaky moments where she elbows someone, etc. But the team was in pretty good flow most of the time. Lot's of new Iowa faces, but the they are "players". The new guards (maybe were on the bench last year?) Don't who were freshmen...anyway one's that I watched were skilled and up tempo . Never saw McCabe on the floor, but didn't watch all the game. The new bigs are pretty capable too. We'll need to be ready when they come up on the schedule.

She's getting into the speed of the game, and getting used to the American game. Yep, she's becoming more and more of an asset. Needed more points from our guards today. No matter how ever they can get them.
-
The three was our enemy, we shot 14%. If we could have even shot 25% (which we usually do) it would have been enough. So so on free throws 68%. We were close enough. A few breaks, and better defense.

BTN+ has a lot of games/matches today (all sports)...when their overloaded it gets slow
-
!st half.... When Markowski is out of the game, Creighton immediately goes inside to the basket. When Markowski's in, they shoot threes. Creighton's prepared well for us. They aren't subbing much....get them in foul trouble ? And like always it seems when we play Creighton, we don't defend the 3 well. On the other hand we aren't shooting the 3 well at all today. Getting some good offense from the newbies...but not great defense. Lots of time left.
-
Looked at the Creighton stats. Green Bay out shot them (percentage) by a good margin. Both 2 and 3 shots. Hard to tell if it was Green Bay defense....but probably. Creighton had low percentage 3's stats...24% roughly. Green Bay shot 54% overall. Maybe they had one of those night where everything seems to fall in. The Iowa game looks to be a full court defense, and a big... big, ...to slow Iowa down. And...K State is on the rise. But regardless...how sweet it is !

Right now Hake leads the team in 3 shooting percentage. So she has high value in that alone. Also leads team in free throw percentage. I'll take those that all day. (as a team 3 percentages not so great so far) Potts has high percentage overall shooting...so would help to shoot more. Markowski is near the top in most categories, and leads team in scoring and rebounding by quite a bit.. And 82% free throws. And all that being said, if we don't have most of the injured back for Creighton, sorry to offend any sensitive ears, but more than likely we're burnt toast. Hope I'm wrong, but if too many of the top 6 or 7 can't play?

So who put the hex on us ?? This is crazy. Who will be back for the next game ? Good thing Alcorn is one of the weakest teams we've seen for awhile. The games pretty much over at the half.
-
That's possible unfortunately. After a couple of years with no real changes in the top half of the B1G, it might opening up to several other teams. We've got to continue to recruit, and we don't seem to want to get into the portal thing. We must get at least a big ...but from where ? Many of these other teams (not just the B1G) are almost abandoning developing freshmen. Penn State looked good with their revamped team. Transferring in maybe half their roster. Marisa is on fire. Penn State isn't the only one. Even Wyoming is doing something similar with about half their team from Europe or Australia. Two of three, of their new commits, are "foreign". Where are all the mid tier of America girls going to end up now....Div 2? Seems like the rich are getting richer with transfers.

This video shows some of Amiah's versatility, and really looks to have a lot of smooth and natural BBall skills. Really need to see her play with Nebraska teammates but appears she might be a 3-4 with her close in/ mid range shooting. And size needed to be near the basket rebounding opportunities. An on floor comparison we'll see later, but Potts may be a different type (and rare) of player that can play the entire floor offense or defense. (remember watching her HS play where our new full court defense is what Potts played in HS her whole career.) What we're doing now is second nature scheme wise, to Potts already. Everybody's said this is an excellent recruiting class. Still need a big, but the next few years is going t be fun.

Spent a week in Colo this fall in a cabin at 9,200 ft. Not much difference than Laramie. (been there too) You can feel it in breathing...especially if active. Takes a couple of days there to begin to get acclimated.

3 things... My preseason concern was replacing Issie. Potts has done it in one game. Best newbie we've had in years. The new asst. coaches have made a real impact in the way we play. Play much tougher defense. And the full court defense I really think the asst's had a lot to do with it. Markowski and Jaz have developed a real sense of chemistry... of what each other will do. And can be real smooth as a team. (Jazz and Issie had that last year.) Markowski team and game high 17 pts and about 13 re-bonds for a double -double. Potts 15 pts and 6-7 shooting And....... we needed a competitive game before we hit some tougher schedule.
-
Looked at Wyo roster....6 are European and one Aussie (the center)
-
Maybe I missed it, but anything new on Maddie's status? Must still be nursing the injury ? We should be OK today without her.....have a good bench of guards that can fill her spot this game. I did try to open up the Mountain West network and it opened immediately.

Money is talking ....B1G has it flowing. .......And Washington and Oregon coming the next year.

Don't know if you got an answer to this but... This how I do it anyway. Get to watch any of NUs BTN+ sport games on the big screen. Volleyball, baseball, etc etc 1 I tune into BTN+ on my laptop. (or PC) 2 Then "cast" the broadcast to one of my smart TVs. Most all newer laptops, PC's, smart TV's have casting capabilities. I use right clicking, and/or (do a You tube or google search to get more info.) If its not a smart TV , use a Google Chromecast device so a non smart TV will except casting.

The lineup today is my guess for probable starters rest of early season before B1G 22 Natalie Potts - 6-2 - Fr. 40 - Alexis Markowski - 6-3 - Jr. - C 0 - Darian White - 5-6 - Gr. - G - 1 - Jaz Shelley - 5-9 - Gr. - G - 42 - Maddie Krull -5-9 Sr G Really like Potts, great BBall IQ, can do lots of things. Good size too. The overall depth is better than in several years. Maybe more "potential" as a team is a better way to put it. May be we can get over the hump so to speak But we've got to get in groove soon, with Creighton coming up. It will be the test of where we are going as a team.
