  1. it is. this isn't the nfl where you have 50 or so roster spots plus the taxi squad. nba has what... 15 spots tops? and with 300 or so division 1 teams (versus 100 or so football teams) it gives you some idea how much harder the NBA is than the NFL to stick around. gives you a new appreciation for how good tyronn lue and mikki moore really were.... and they were basically bench guys in the NBA.
  2. The thing that hammond won't get by redshirting is experience against all-B1G caliber inside guys. Ayegba and smith are two ok guys but they're never going to be all B1G offensively or defensively. ayegba's probably better defensively than smith. contrast that to tarin smith. benny has a lot of shortcomings (pun unintended) but he can flat out play defense. tarin smith will be able to go up against a legitimately good (and possibly great) defender everyday in practice. if he can beat benny consistently in practice and take playing time, you flat out know he's good enough to play in our league. you just won't know with hammond unless he dominates inside. think of how good kenny bell got by going up against amukamara in practice. similar things here. success breeds success.
  3. We were good defensively before we added moses (who isn't a slouch... bit of a foul machine, but he will flat out defend the hoop). Given our issues inside that's EXACTLY what we needed in many ways so long as he doesn't get out of control. We could be a top 10 defensive team next year. We were 53rd in points allowed this year as it was and that was including a horrible start due to the team gelling. So if you want what i would like to see? improvement. if we improve we're going to be awful good defensively.
  4. Wisconsin (the last game) went to the final 4. we played our way into the tournament. we're obviously not a bad loss anymore. a road loss to an ncaa team doesn't hurt your team. a road win however does you a lot of good. if you've got a legitimately good team, it's a chance to play your way into a really high seed... especially if your conference is a weaker RPI conference than the B1G.
  5. guys, you don't build an arena that half the NBA teams would drool over just so you can play a home game somewhere else. i had a couple thoughts on the schedule. i wouldn't mind playing colorado state in a 2 for 1 series. their rpi the last 3-4 years has been pretty solid. might be awkward for miles, but why not? much better than the citadel *pukes* also would like to play some teams like wichita state, slu, iowa state, ksu, oklahoma, etc. there's enough of them that at least a few wouldn't mind starting a series. why not arkansas? they're fairly close and we play them every year in baseball -- it's not like it's a different phone number for their athletic department (admittedly that's the dave van horn connection for arkansas baseball but still... our schools don't exactly not play unlike some of the big 12 schools who just won't schedule us). new mexico isn't much further away than arkansas and they're solid. dunno... i came up with about 20 schools off the top of my head (admittedly some who were in the big 12) that have decent programs and are fairly close (none of whom are in texas). i guess i just don't see why we have to settle for about half the teams we scheduled OOC this year and the last several... there's even a few more (not in those 20) that would play 2 for 1 if you called them and asked (not all, but some would). there's no excuse to play the citadel. there just isn't. UNO is leaps and bounds ahead of the citadel (and about 110 RPI spots) and they're 70 miles away -- and i have zero desire to play UNO.
  6. Completely agree. It wasn't until we lost at Penn St, Biggs left and the team finally bought into playing tough defense as a team and putting the team first that we finally started winning. I don't see that changing, only getting better. So I think we come out of our non-conference portion of our schedule with a much better record than last year. Especially with Tarin Smith coming in to help with the PG issures. Hopefully Fuller can provide some of the perimeter shooting we so desperately need as well. So barring injuries we should be an even better team building off of last year. The one concern that remains for me that is a huge intangible is the maturity and mental fortitude we lacked this past season that really showed themselves in the B1G tourney game against Ohio St and against Baylor in the NCAA tourney. I have faith in Miles and his staff though. That really depends on what our non-conference schedule is. It's entirely possible depending on the transfers involved that our schedule will be much tougher. we've already got cincinatti at home (probably top 20) and probably a top 5 acc team either at home or on the road (probably on the road) plus the tournament in hawaii. If we add a few more tough or even toughish games in there (slu? marquette? wichita state? ksu? kansas? missouri? arkansas? plenty of options in a relatively close area) we could easily be in the running for the the toughest schedule in the country.
  7. Seriously... pissing off the nebraska fan base on an internet voting poll that we NEVER lose? That's begging for a butt kicking. i'm a little surprised some people haven't written voting scripts with the voting being open now
  8. He would have made more if he wouldn't have gotten hurt. Possibly significantly more. The money spends the same regardless. The numbers i was looking at was around the 1.5 million mark.
  9. i said "get hurt" not "break a bone"... there's a lot worse injuries out there that would raise question marks. i hope that doesn't happen, but it's a possibility. It's probably why boldt is a husker.
  10. You never know... people fall in the draft for the weirdest reasons sometimes. He could get hurt in spring baseball and be forced to go to college or sign for like 200k which is 1/5 of what it looks like he'll make right now. So yeah... he could end up here yet. I doubt it, but you never know.
  11. I want one of the big 4 ACC teams in the ACC/B1G challenge (UNC, Duke, Syracuse or Virginia). I don't care if it's on the road, bring 'em on. Preferably syracuse duke or UNC
  12. this is what makes me think he's going to be here two more years. terran's amazing in college but the pros look for some different things... he'd have to be consensus B1G player of the year next year to go 1st round IMO. Doable? yeah... heck, i hope he proves me wrong. And he's got the work ethic to do it. But they're going to defend him differently next year. How so? We don't know yet but it'll happen. It's going to be a process and he's going to have to earn it. They'll dare shavon or pitchford to beat them instead of him. Honestly the best thing that could happen to petteway is to have pitchford take his game to the next level. If pitch goes off a lot early, they won't be able to just try and shut down petteway/shields who are similar players.
  13. works for me. only makes my point even better lol
  14. i think he was a legit 6'6... same height as jordan give or take an inch. he wasn't your typical PF though...
  15. 6'7 is plenty for a power forward if they're athletic enough. especially in college. two words : the chuckster. aka the round mound of rebound. he was 6'6 rodman was 6'7"
  16. Ryan Anderson from BC would be beyond darn nice....
  17. they want the guy from duke who pulls in 3-4 top 30 prospects every year (note : such an assistant doesn't exist)
  18. I wonder if the fans of the other teams realize that they don't have a chance in heck of winning this thing with how husker fans vote online.
  19. Seemed to be underplaying his hand a bit with that statement to me. I agree it sounded like a foregone conclusion. Seems like he might have a couple guys on the reel -- just not committed yet.
  20. might be the ideal guy to teach tarin smith the ropes... i know a lot of us have wanted a big guy inside, but someone like this would be a heck of a consolation prize.
  21. walt's dangerous now... you don't shoot over .400 from 3 and not be at least a little dangerous in the college game. he needs to raise that % and also learn a bit of an inside game. his senior year could be quite ... entertaining if he does. If walt develops any kind of post-up game, he'd dominate the college game in a way nobody at nebraska ever has before. I'm not saying we won't have had better players (he'd be hard pressed to be better than shields or petteway while he's here as an example) just that he'd be unique. Once every 3-4 possessions or so we'd try to give walt the ball deep and let him play around. they'd be forced to double him or he's a good enough shooter to make that 5-10 footer at a very high clip with ease. and when they DID double him he's got the size to hit people who are slashing to the rim (and we've got two people who would be VERY good at that specifically in shields and petteway) or a guy who can hit a 3-ball. You get a guy with his shooting skills deep 10 times a game and you could see someone as a senior who routinely goes off for 20 points simply because he shoots 3's fairly well on the "other" possessions but has LOTS of free throws and 2-3 assists per game. So yeah... kaminsky isn't a bad comparison. and i don't think it's a stretch to hope for kaminsky-ish numbers next year (14.5 ppg, 6 rpg, 1 apg). Pitch this year had 9.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg and about .5 assists. Maybe a bit less, but a little hope for improvement isn't out of line.
  22. BYU was the only major "upset" of the first day.... and we can benefit (i hope)
  23. I did a little math.. webster and benny were at about 7 points, 3 assists, and 2.5 turnovers per game. If they can get that up to about 10-12 points, 5 assists, and lower the turnovers, that's a pretty big jump forward... and it's not terrible numbers out of a point guard. And honestly it looks doable to me. Yeah they wouldn't be chris paul but we don't need them to be chris paul. I think we can improve internally a LOT at that position. Which means our biggest need is that senior transfer 4/5.
  24. someone has to make a shot
  25. I'll take my chances with a neutral site. I just want a shot at uconn in lincoln... why not?
