  1. Glynn Watson made ESPN's highlights last night: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=400839285
  2. First of all, Indiana is a fairly good team--not great, but pretty good. And we had a chance for a one-possession game with 31 seconds left, despite being down by 12 late in the second half. But White missed a 3-pointer, and we lost the hack-at-the-end. And consider this: four Nebrasketball freshmen combined today for 82 minutes, 30 of 69 points, and 13 of 29 rebounds. And to anyone saying great recruits don't come to Nebraska: next year we will have a half-dozen or so four-star / top-100 types on the floor, and three or four of those will be freshmen / sophomores. Before last season, we'd never had a single one.
  3. I saw what I saw at the end of the game. No sarcasm. 100% accurately described. I then went and took their picture immediately after the game ended. Earlier, they weren't sitting together--Mom was in the next row down, I believe, and all other reports above are accurate on Elijah being intent on his phone and not the game throughout--until the end when his Mom moved to the seat next to him. By the way, Mom liked and retweeted my photo. She also retweeted a news article on Nebraska recruiting Elijah.
  4. Elijah and his Mom were very engaged, at the end of the game, with developments on the court. They were sitting side-by-side, at that time, and in deep discussion. Mom was clapping to the Nebraska fight song. Don't know what that means, but they seemed very interested in the moment.
  5. My prediction rate for commitments is somewhere close to 0.00%. So, I'm emphatically stating that this is NOT a prediction!!! But looking at Elijah's final-five list, it's difficult to imagine why he'd choose any place but Nebraska -- i.e., if he considers himself a center (which, presumably, he does). Here's why the other schools aren't good options for him: Clemson: they've had only one four-star recruit from 2012 thru 2016, and they already have two under-class centers (a junior and a sophomore) getting minutes now. Gonzaga: has a four star center (6'11" 235 lb.) committed for 2016. Arizona St.: has a four star center (6'9" 250 lb.) committed for 2016. They've also scheduled a visit, for the same time as Elijah's, for a center (6'10" 225 lb.) transfer from UNLV--how's that for showing Elijah some love? San Diego: (apparently, this is not a misprint--it's not SDSU) Elijah apparently has some connections from back home in Texas with this coach. But San Diego is not in the B1G or in a conference that is remotely similar. So, unless Elijah views himself as a power forward, instead of a center, and unless he views Ed Morrow as a competitor for playing time (instead of someone he might play side-by-side with), it seems like Nebraska is his best choice among the final-list schools.
  6. This is pretty funny: giving up when recruiting success has gone through the roof. Before last year we had nary a single top-100 or four star player on the team. And next year we will have something like a half dozen or so. Yep . . . that's a good time to quit.
  7. Wow! Wish I hadn't opened this thread. My impression of this coach is that he is a tremendously positive addition to the staff--in every possible way. Just hate to see trash talk like this about an excellent coach. And former players love him! It goes to show: unless things are going great, stay away from boards like this.
  8. This is a great article for recruiting transfers. Get these blurbs, for example: "My only concern,’’ said Miles, “was I wanted him to reach his potential and I wanted him to put him in a position where he was highly successful.’’ Nebraska became a possibility because Miles had past success with transfers while at Colorado State and with Terran Petteway at NU. In addition, White was familiar with Huskers assistant Kenya Hunter, who previously served on the Georgetown staff and recruited White out of high school. “Kansas is a big program. Nothing compares to something like that,’’ White said. “But you have to go to a place that’s best for you and Nebraska has given me such a platform to show what I can do. [T]he 6-foot-7 junior wing leads NU in scoring with a 16.9-point average and is shooting 42.2 percent from 3-point range during a 7-4 start. Not that there wasn’t some coaching going on a year ago to prepare White for his opportunity. Nebraska practices were designed for him to work on his overall game, while giving teammates fits as they tried guarding the former top-50 national recruit out of Richmond, Va.
  9. Is Elijah Thomas our best option? Does transferring out of A&M after the first semester (like his good buddy from Ohio St.) raise any red flags? According to Lee Barfknecht moments ago, Tim Miles is "touring the country courting big men" and was "scheduled to travel to California, Florida, North Carolina and Massachusetts to check out prospects for next season." Big men "Nebraska is known to have interest in" are Robinson Idehen (6'9", 210 lb.), Papa N'diaye (6'9", 215 lb.) and Jordy Tshimanga (6'10", 250 lb.).
  10. Looks like Texas needs a young big. According to this ESPN roster, Texas doesn't have a Freshman or Sophomore over 6'6".
  11. Here is an article on him. And here are some blurbs from the article: Thomas, who was the most highly rated recruit in the 2015 class, has seen very limited minutes in the first eight games due to all of his setbacks so early. But the setbacks weren't the only reason for Thomas' limited minutes. After missing five weeks of practice and the emergence of Tyler Davis and Tonny Trocha-Morelos in the post, Thomas found himself deeper on the bench than anyone would have guessed in the preseason. The Lancaster product didn't mature on the court as quickly as the coaches or he would have liked. In my opinion, his skill level and talent are ready for this level, but his preparation and mental adjustments aren't. Thomas is the type of talent that has the potential to play at the next level. His ability to score the basketball in a multitude of ways, combined with his athleticism, is something the A&M fan base has not seen in a maroon and white jersey in a long time.
  12. Robinson Idehen is, apparently, the offered. Here is a link to a recent article about him: http://www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1621013-robinson-idehen-one-of-west-s-top-availables

    Florida

We woulda beat Miami, if Tai hadn't fouled out!!!
  14. Ha! This player. Duran Porter, is listed as a 6'10" guard on the box score in another thread. The Abilene Christian official site lists him at 6'8" and 240 pounds. He has performed in a similar manner only a few times this year--one was against Colorado St. on a 100-108 overtime loss.
  15. Which player schooled our bigs? Can't tell from the box score.
  16. How did Nebrasketball not blow this game out? We had more than twice as many free throws (36-17), nine more rebounds (34-25), and eight fewer turnovers (12-20).
  17. That's funny, Auroran: Nebraska Nice!
  18. We finally moved out of triple and into into double digits. Bet we can beat a bunch of those teams ahead of us.
  19. Arizona State's performance this year is not stellar: lost by three to Sacramento State, lost in overtime to Marquette, and beat UC Santa Barbara by two on Nov. 29.
  20. Here is my take from listening to the Miles comments once: 1. There is not a single tone of angst or discomfort; 2. He limits the number of early commitments to see how things turn out with players we already have; and 3. He is optimistic that our current bigs will meet our needs, which would open opportunities for a different recruiting priority. "It's all good," is the message I heard. Also, those who bemoan our "bigs" recruiting history are likely to be moaning about the same issue for the foreseeable future.
  21. He should be--should have redshirted!!
  22. Four freshmen who played more than 10 minutes had pretty good lines last night: Hammond--6 points on 3 of 5 from the floor, 7 rebounds (3 off., 4 def.), 1 foul and no turnovers in 16 minutes Watson--6 points on 2 of 4 from the floor, hitting his only three and his only free throw, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 2 steals and no turnovers in 20 minutes Jacobson--6 points on 1 of 2 from the floor and 4 of 4 from the line, 8 rebounds (2 off., 6 def.) and 2 turnovers in 14 minutes Morrow--4 points on 1 of 3 from the field and 2 of 4 from the line, 5 rebounds, 1 assist (a thing of beauty), 2 turnovers and 3 blocks in 15 minutes. McVeigh had a tough go at shooting last night--presumably/hopefully, that's merely an intermittent setback in an otherwise upward trajectory. Each of these freshmen is progressing in his own way and at his own rate--and intermittently at times. But it's obvious over the early season games that progress for each is both fast and real--and fun to watch.
