2022 F Isaac Traudt - Virginia->Creighton
millerhusker replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Also recruiting Brennon Clemons Jr. Don’t think it’s fair to say he’s not recruiting local kids. If Sallis and Traudt don’t want to play for Nebraska, that’s nobody’s fault. Bill Self offers Kansas kids who choose to not to play for KU. No big deal. -
I'm intrigued to see how he looks on the court, but I don't think we should have any expectations for him. Before the season, Hoiberg said something along the lines of, "Eduardo might even have to help us out this year (because of potential COVID issues)." Aside from talking about his wingspan, Hoiberg didn't speak very glowingly of Eduardo like he did most of the other players. At this point, we just need someone trustworthy to play in the post. Someone who just doesn't hurt us more than they help us. I'm hoping this is where Derrick Walker comes in. He has played minutes in 3 NCAA tournament games and 2 SEC championship games as a part of two very good Tennessee teams (they were #1 in the country for six weeks his soph year). Here's what tells me he's better than what we currently run out there at the 5: In 459 career minutes, he only has 27 turnovers. And he's shot 38/66 (58%) from the field. This year, Lat and Yvan are a combined 22/64 (34%). Lat turns it over nearly every time he puts the ball on the floor and Yvan's field goal attempts are essentially turnovers. Wasted possessions are our biggest problem offensively right now. Defensively, Walker has been described as an "enforcer type" and has a 7' wingspan. Serviceable is all we need out of our 5.

He had 25 in the first half of that game.

Iowa is basically Creighton plus the best center in the country. Yikes.

I would guess the difference in points off turnovers was pretty close to the difference in the final score. Trey, Teddy, Dalano and Thor were all 50% or above from the field and from three tonight. We shot the ball well. But when you have 25 offensive possessions where you don't get to attempt a shot, you're going to get beat handily. Teddy and Shamiel have too many possessions on defense where they give zero effort. You just can't have that at this level. The lack of mental toughness with those two and Lat is concerning. Trey and Thor played well tonight.

We've actually shot it well tonight. Seems like our best shooting game by far. 22 turnovers, though. So many empty possessions. -

Lat has been a liability on both ends tonight. -

And now our body language and defensive effort is trash? Why? -

They were making noise during Yvan's free throw too. That's like middle school stuff. -

Did I hear two Creighton players say "Miss it" as Banton was shooting that free throw? -

Solid defense. Good block outs. Really good ball movement tonight. If we start knocking down some of these open threes, we just might have a shot. -

Yvan shooting is also a wasted possession. We don't need him to play against this Creighton team. -

6 turnovers in 8 minutes is way too many empty possessions. We only have 6 field goal attempts. Take care of the ball and we will score points on this team! -

We're playing with more purpose on both ends. We would've beat Georgia Tech had we played with this intensity. -

I cringe a little any time Trey shot fakes and puts the ball on the floor. A travel, charge or wild layup attempt is often the result. Not real impressed with Creighton's defense. We can score points on them. -
How I loathe Creighton...(let us count the ways)

Maybe the most angry I've ever been at an opponent. Grant Gibbs cheap shot on Petteway then wouldn't let him get up. Petteway got T'd up for it, then Gibbs winked at McDermott. I never had respect for Gibbs, but I lost respect for McDermott after that game. He was asked about it in the press conference. He smiled and said, "Grant Gibbs, that's my guy." -

My cousin, who is a creighton fan, lived on the same dorm floor as Nate Funk. He watched Funk push a student down a flight of stairs. Said he would pick fights with anyone for no apparent reason and was just a giant ass hole. -
And all those shooters were just what Royce White, the versatile 6’8” point guard, needed to be able to best use his playmaking ability. Banton’s game would be best suited alongside a handful of knock down shooters. There’s not a lot of room for him to operate right now in the half court right now. That makes what he’s done so far even more impressive. Excited to see what he can do with more shooters around him.
