My thoughts exactly. In a season with very little chance at post-season play, I'd like to get an athletic in-state kid some minutes so that he can take his lumps now. Akol appears to have a very high ceiling (although admittedly also a low floor).

I find this decommitment really disappointing. Home town 4* kid that is moving on...ouch. Quite a bummer.

I'm not debating that Cross is more aggressive than frosh Roby was. Cross clearly is more aggressive. But in my opinion the gap in athleticism, length, defense and shooting are all much more pronounced, and all favor freshman Roby. I mean, Kevin can't even make a free throw at this point. To say that aggression is the trait that most separates them seems like a bit of revisionist history to me. Zay screamed "potential NBA player" as a freshman. I'd be surprised to see Kevin make our rotation next year.

You must be watching a completely different Kevin Cross than I'm seeing. Aggression is certainly not "the biggest difference" I see btwn Cross and Roby.

This makes me really, really want him. This story reminds me of a lot of kids that I've known from being involved with the foster care system. Good kids that are dealt terrible situations deserve second (and third) chances, and I hope we are willing to give him that chance. -

(s)CU(m) - 85 Huskers - 65 The Omaha boys always get up for this game, and always run up the score if capable. This is likely our worst team in years...have a hard time believing we keep the loss margin under 20. -
@49r thanks for continuing to do this. It's a painful year to track, but I for one look forward to this thread's updates (not sure about the rest of these HHCC putzes though ).

It was A&M on a last second shot from near half court. I was standing on the floor in the student section, giving the Aggie bench hell the whole game. It was a total gut punch of a loss. EDIT: found an article to confirm: https://12thman.com/news/2009/2/24/205229476.aspx EDIT #2: OK, maybe it wasn't near midcourt. My memory may have inflated the shot a bit in the last 10 years. Southern Utah 80 Nebraska 70 BTW, I will be moving to northern Utah later this winter. Will be living in the Ogden area, so Weber State will become my local team. Weber and SUU are apparently rivals (who knew?) so I guess I now doubly want to beat SUU. Alas, they actually are supposed to be good this year. -

UC Riverside (0-0) vs. Nebraska (0-0) Game Thread
aphilso1 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Let's look on the bright side. We weren't going to make the postseason this year anyway, so this loss doesn't really hurt us. But it will drag our RPI down into the gutter, meaning when we upset Creighton and Iowa later in the year it will count as a "bad loss" for them and keep them home in March, too! -

Of all the stock photos of SS that they could have used, they chose the one where he is fumbling the ball on an undefended dunk attempt? -
Because all the big dudes fouled out?
aphilso1 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
1. big dudes do foul out a lot 2. free throw shooters are more valuable once you're in the bonus, especially in the second half 3. big dudes typically have less endurance, so are less likely to be fresh at the end of halves 4. tall guys often get the benefit of doubt to be a starter, even if they're not one of the 5 best players on the team 5. Somebody has to do that whole jump ball thing at the start of the game (I seem to remember Chris Balham ONLY doing the opening jump before being subbed out in a few games) I think those five reasons combined can explain a height disparity that is smaller than my fingernail. -
And according to a segment on AM 590 in Omaha, Thor got the most minutes by a wide margin. Can't imagine anyone predicted that. I sure didn't.
