I live in Bettendorf, Iowa, and was just at Home Depot. A nice couple stopped and asked me if it was a Huskers hat I was wearing. Of course it was. They were excited to share that they’re alumni and have season tickets for football and then we excitedly talked about the Hoiberg hire after days of repeatedly refreshing Twitter. It’s nice to run into folks outside of Nebraska and talk hoops.

I’ve lived in Omaha, Lincoln and Des Moines. Des Moines was my favorite by a decent margin, with no slight to Omaha and Lincoln, which I think have improved greatly over the past 10 years. Ames is a joke by comparison.

I made the mistake of reading all 68 pages of their Hoiberg to NU thread. Whew. That was painful.

I can’t recall where I read/heard (maybe Gaskins interviewing Gary Sharp), but supposedly Hoiberg has already reached out to potential recruits.

Couldn’t Hoiberg do all of those things without an official announcement, basically telling everyone that “I’m the coach but we’re keeping it quiet until my son is done.”
