  1. Both of those teams play beautiful basketball compared to Cincy. The hate for Virginia is weird to me. They play great team ball combined with damn good shotmaking ability. I love it. Texas Tech can play both an uptempo style and a slow it down game. All programs would be so lucky.
  2. The problem is the “wins” benchmark. He hasn’t won much in the postseason, and I wonder if the top recruits the UCLA fan base expect to get will be overly interested in his kind of system. He’ll make UCLA good, but I don’t think he’s a great fit and r the kind of coach that will get them back to elite 8s and Final Fours.
  3. Will UCLA fans and donors have any interest in watching Cincy’s style of play? It can be awfully hard on the eyes. Edit: Good coach though. Would have been thrilled to have him here.
  4. From his Rivals story when he committed to OSU... Choosing the Cowboys over Ole Miss, Illinois, SMU and St. John’s, Calloo is a versatile power forward that can defend his position and has a budding offensive skillset that would allow for him to be used out to the 3-point line. He has a strong frame, an improving jumper and quality athleticism at the basket. https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/oklahoma-state-lands-2018-big-maurice-calloo
  5. Mack said the departure of Abdelmassih, his lead recruiter and, according to sources, the only St. John’s coach he had a strong relationship with, played a factor in his decision. But Mack also wasn’t sure how long Mullin, who has two years left on his contract, would be at St. John’s, even though the head coach told him he had no plans to go anywhere. “This was a very, very hard decision,” Mack said. “I honestly don’t know where I want to go. I’m going to start the process again. I would still consider going back there. I want to make sure I know what’s going on first.” https://nypost.com/2019/04/05/st-johns-recruit-asks-to-be-released-from-commitment/amp/
  6. Mack said he chose St. John’s because “it feels like home here and they have two Hall Fame coaches [Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond]. And me and Matt [Abdelmassih] had a real awesome connection when we started the process.” https://www.zagsblog.com/2018/11/19/st-johns-adds-juco-point-guard-cameron-mack/
  7. Hmm. Gates was there, eh?
  8. Barring an immediate pledge to Hoiberg, it seems tonight went as well as possible.
  9. I know Randy. Great guy and great reporter. And let’s be honest, if ISU fans weren’t losing their minds and acting like babies about Hoiberg going to Nebraska then he very well might not have asked the question during the press conference. It’s hilarious that ISU fans are in the midst of an existential crisis but have the gall to be embarrassed by a question at a press conference. Lots of fans need need to get over themselves.
  10. I lived in Des Moines for three years before moving to the Quad Cities, where I’ve lived for the past 10 years.
  11. There’s a lot to unpack here, but obviously I disagree with nearly everything in this post. Even I was interested in what Hoiberg had to say about ISU. Fans are funny. The things we get worked up over are really silly.
  12. Then he’s getting some good practice at going behind a coach’s back.
  13. Wouldn’t Gates be under contract already though?
  14. That must mean no on Gates.
  15. Did Hoiberg talk about Armon Gates?
  16. Caveat: A team in the second round promises him guaranteed money.
  17. Yeah, I cringed when I heard him mention the golf coach. Maybe Hoiberg asked him to reach out.
  18. I know this will annoy folks in here, but Peterson and the Des Moines TV guy being there and asking about Iowa State was absolutely the responsible thing to do for their readers/viewers. This obviously is a huge deal there. If they took over the introductory press conference it would have been bush league. Peterson is a pro and handled it well.
  19. Like-wise. I enjoyed a lot of ISU basketball teams over the years, especially Fizer and Tinsley.
  20. I know a handful of Cyclones fans and they’re all cool with Hoiberg joining Nebraska. They understand he wants to work and the job isn’t open. They don’t see Nebraska as a rival or anything. They mostly want to see him beat Iowa.
