  1. Anybody know why Nunn not starting today for them? Discipline?
  2. Chang ended with 31 tonight.
  3. Quick trivia question: Who is the King of plantar fascitis for Husker hoops? Markus Perry, actually, he may have had bad knees?
  4. We do play Purdue twice but we only play Maryland, Iowa, Michigan St, and Michigan once. We play Rutgers, Minnesota, and Penn St twice. We're not a great team but we do play a very soft B1G schedule. And we play NW twice. Yes, they are much, much improved, but still better than facing Maryland, Mich State, Michigan twice IMO.
  5. Been going since I was a little kid with my dad. Have now had season tickets for about 13 years. Drive from Omaha for every game. Have had to miss a few recently with coaching. Now take my son as well (2nd year season ticket holder). I just love going. I won't ever give up on NU. Plus, WHEN we turn it around, it will be oh so sweet. Two years ago when we had that great run, was some of the most fun games I have been too. I do remember some great games during the Nee era. The Jamar Johnson 3 vs KU is still one of my all time favorite games.
  6. Let me clarify. I am NOT at all comparing NU to MSU. I was simply pointing out that a GREAT team like MSU has off nights as all College teams do. And to the person who said "I was waiting for the football fan comment." If you are going to be so quick to judge after a bad loss, can't you also say that we have looked pretty good at times as well? (Miami, Cinci, Rhode Island). My point was this. I try really hard not to get too pumped for any win, or too low after any loss. There are way too many games in a season to do that. As soon as one game is done you hope to learn from it (win or lose) and get back to work.
  7. UNO has one starter, maybe two that could start for NU, hyperbole is OWH strong suit. Thurman, Patterson and White could, in theory, all start, though Thurman plays Shields' position, in a sense. That may not be true a few years, but it is right this minute. And Hollins would play some minutes, too. Remember, Hollins and Thurman were part of the greatest HS team in state history. None of them ended up at Nebraska. Or Creighton. Or anywhere else good.Pretty sure Agau's at Georgetown. He was on that team, too.Thurman wasn't any better or worse a HS player than Shields. Maybe they'll shake out differently in college. Thus far, they're about equal. But there's Edward Chang, and we'll see where he goes in a few years. I have 0% doubt in my mind - from all my basketball experience - that Treshawn Thurman and Tradeon Hollins would start for Nebraska. Treshawn is better than Morrow, better than Jacobsen, better than any 4/5 we have on our roster. Tradeon would be an upgrade of Benny's defense, on and off ball, and he can finish at the rim. Our line up of:1. Hollins 2. White 3. Shields 4. Thurman 5. Whatever crap 5 you put in Would be better than any line-up we currently have. These "Central Superstars" have lost to UC Santa Barbara, Eastern Michigan, a BAD Missouri team and a pretty awful Wyoming team. Took powerhouse UMKC to OT at home to win the game. Squeaked out a win over Montana State. OT vs Grand Canyon. Look, maybe individually you can look at a guy and think he is pretty good. But they are losing to a lot of cupcakes. It humors me how many on here will compare these guys when in reality, how good are they really? They may look "decent" vs LOWER level competition, but how the hell do we know they can go night in an night out in the B10? We lost a game we shouldn't have and all hell breaks lose. Oakland just took Michigan State to OT tonight! OAKLAND! Maybe Izzo has lost it? The point is, teams lose games they shouldn't, teams have great nights, teams have awful nights....THAT'S BASKETBALL!! Again, this is NOT football! Its a 32 game marathon, not a 10 game sprint! One team gets hot in basketball and can beat anybody on any given night! Every night I could literally give you an upset of a team that shouldn't have won. Its what makes basketball great! Anything can happen! The key is to try and not get too excited for great wins, and not too down after bad losses.
  8. I was going to avoid posting in this thread, but wanted to chime in. I think almost all of you have good points, positive and negative. Here is why I trust Miles. 1) He has given this team a pulse. Look, I understand that the new arena is nice, the new area around the arena is nice, but you still have to get butts in the seats. Even on a "bad night" over 10,000 people are showing up. At the Devaney, that would be a season high most years. 2) The talent is better. I still think this group has a lot of talent on the court. And it shows on some nights (vs Miami, vs Cincy, vs Rhode Island). 3) Miles is a promoter to the program, and I think this will continue to lead to good recruits. Even next week we are getting that ATM transfer to at least come here. I just don't know if other coaches of ours in the past would even get them on campus. I know the Samford loss just irks people to no end (myself included). But at the same time, I see how good we can play (see above). We live in such a "football State" that people tend to over-react certain wins, and over-react certain losses. The bottom line is we play 32 games. We will have some nights where we look really good. We will have some nights we look really bad. Look at this year alone. Wisconsin two bad losses at home Minnesota two bad losses at home GTown back to back bad home losses I mean, you can really go on and on. That's basketball. Some nights the shots don't fall, some nights they do. Now, I will say that the Samford game was more than just missing shots. I felt that for the Samford game, that was the first game where I didn't see or feel any flow to that game. Offensive or defensive. At the same time, had we not gone 0-8 on FT's to start the game, we are up 8-12 points at half and that game may be completely different. You could see last games guys were pressing as it got later and later into the game. Shots weren't falling and guys looked timid shooting them. That happens. These next 3 games for NU will I think tell us a lot about this year. We need to go at WORST 2-1, and would LOVE 3-0. Will be very interested to see how these next 3 go.
  9. As Cary Cochran put on twitter, its not so much if he starts or not, its how many minutes he gets. I'm not one that honestly cares who starts the game or not. I know sometimes you feel you have to get out to that early lead. But just because he starts doesn't guarantee that either. The key to me is who is in the game during crunch time. And as long as the players are playing hard for one another and not worrying about who starts and who doesn't, that's really all that matters in my opinion. And this group to this point really does seem to have good chemistry and pull for one another.
  10. The question that needs to be answered is how in the heck did we come back with Benny and Glynn on the floor at the same time? I have heard all year that those two can't play together. Their defensive intensity is what got us back in the game. This win is big for so many reasons. This would have been the type of loss that could have cost us the "casual" fan that may not know how good of a team Rhode Island is. It could have hurt the mental stage of our team badly! It also was a big win from the standpoint that anytime we seemed to make a run Rhode Island would make a HUGE shot. For our guys to stay mentally tough and find a way to win this game was big. Had NU dropped this game a lot of fans would have been saying "same ol' NU basketball team" Now, one win doesn't mean anything if you can't string together some more wins. But a loss here would have hurt so badly for the team and fans. And the nice thing is we now have 4 more home games in a row to hopefully build some momentum on.
  11. auroran...that's kind of my point. A lot of the guys names being thrown around have decent #'s vs lower tier competition. Are you winning games with those guys on a B10 roster? An honest question. When was the last time the State of Nebraska had a REALLY good basketball player? Strickland? Agau is even up for debate and he was a top 75 kid. Patton was a 5* kid and is red shirting on a CU team that is average this year. Johnny Trueblood could go to the Summit league and may have good #'s. Doesn't mean he can do it night in and night out in the B10. I would love to see Johnny eventually contribute, but kind of shows you that one of (if not the best) Class B player in the State can't crack the top 10 at NU. The key is to try and keep the top tier kids that do come along in this State. And so far for the class of 2017 we have done so. We also have Tanner Borchardt on the roster this year as well from the State.
  12. Gotcha! Again, I'm trying not to come off as a jerk (which I know is hard to read behind a screen), but do those guys get NU to the tourney in the B10? I just can't see it personally. Now, I would like a guy like Eikmeier or Carr from the shooters standpoint. Maybe NU will go after the stud from Scottsbluff that dropped 52 yesterday including 10 3's?
  13. The only thing I may disagree with is Hanson. That guy is not very good outside maybe 1 game a year...the Nebraska game. He is a foul machine and has butter fingers. Nothing you said about Hanson's skills is wrong, and he is still better than any post player we have on our roster. Have you watched Hanson all year, or just basing this on one game? He's not very good.
  14. So it's a fluke that Miles went the NCAA Tournament with four Nebraska kids? It's a fluke that South Dakota State has a redshirt freshman averaging 11.5 and 6 ppg for an 8-1 team that won at Minnesota? It's a fluke that Omaha has a kid in the top-10 in the nation in steals and another who is as athletic as any 6-7 kid Nebraska has? The Thomas kid from Benson is a fluke? How about that point guard from Iowa (I know this is not Miles fault). Is he a fluke as well? Sheesh. Lot of talent playing in a ton of places; none of them Lincoln. Just curious, when Collier went the "Nebraska" route with Muhleinsen, Dourrisseau, Enright, Wilkinson, did they take us where we wanted to go? I mean after all, he did get some of the better players in the State to come play for NU.
  15. Who are the four kids on the NCAA team? Sorry, I can only think of Menke, Peltz and Kye? And yes, they were a vital part of our success? When those other kids came out and went to any of the other schools (outside of Gessell) were you pissed off then that NU missed on them? Do you want a list of the Nebraska kids that have not panned out at D1 programs as well? For every kid you bring up, I could find just as many that didn't pan out. The point being, nobody knows for sure how good any of these HS kids will be. Do I want Nebraska kids on our roster? ABSOLUTELY! But we have to find kids that are able to compete night in and night out in the B10. Would all of the kids you mentioned above be able too outside of maybe Thomas? Maybe they could have? But at the same time, I am very pleased with the freshman we have too.
  16. Weren't you the same poster who was claiming last summer that Khyri Thomas wasn't very good? I may have? Honestly don't remember. So even if I did, I apparently missed out on him like the other 300+ coaches that didn't recruit him. I will do a better job of trying to evaluate talent for you next time. My deepest apologies.
  17. Miles is going to have 6 top 150 kids on the roster next year. Think about that. Now, that doesn't mean they don't all pan out, but somebody saw a lot of talent in these kids. I know people get bent out of shape when we lose to CU and alll of a sudden have to "compare" everything. I actually (and some will call me crazy) think NU will have a better overall year than CU. They will get bragging rights for beating us again, and so be it. But I still like our roster and think our freshman overall are going to continue to improve a lot. Watson, Jacobson, McVeigh and Morrow have all shown they can play. They are no doubt going to have their ups and downs, but there is talent there. The key now is trying to somehow find that solid low post player. That is the one knock on Miles. Finding that solid big man for us. These next 9 games for NU will be telling of our season. It all starts Sunday, but if you look at our next 9 games, we have chance to get on a nice run and build momentum. We have to win on Sunday and get the ball rolling in the right direction. NU has 5 home games in a row, need to take advantage of it. One other thing with the In-State kids. I get so sick and tired of every damn year people bringing this up when they see a good game or 2 from 1 or 2 In-State kids. I follow Nebraska HS hoops pretty closely and there just aren't a ton of great players in the State. When Collier went the "In-State" route it really back fired on him. Yes they are a feel good story when they pan out. But overeall the talent in the State just isn't all that good. I do like Chang from PLV and getting Arop from South is a good start as well.
  18. Jays open up as a 7 point favorite tomorrow. So Vegas not giving NU much of a shot.
  19. Really hope I'm wrong CU 73 NU 66 6 there's
  20. CU is a good team at home, so no doubt this game will be tough. NU does have a good defensive team, so will be interesting to see how this game goes. CU will be favored to win, as they should at home. Last year we were favored to win and they beat us, so hopefully we can do the same this year. I'm just hoping we shoot the ball well in this game. Will the season be ruined with a loss? Not at all. Still will be tons of games left this season to do well. As Norm pointed out, if we slip up at CU, we will really need to beat Rhode Island at home.
  21. I have us 3-3 now. Losing @CU, winning the other games. That's why I was REALLY hoping we could pull that win off last night to give us a good shot at 4-2. Not that we couldn't go into Omaha and get a win, but it will be very tough.
  22. AWESOME post. Could not agree more on everything you said. Benny NEEDS to play more minutes right now. You throw Glynn in these games for 30 minutes, and he will physically hit a wall. I like the way Miles is bringing him along.
  23. I get people wanting Watson to start. He's a future stud for this team. WITH that said. Benny did a HELL of a job on Rodriquez. That dude can play, and Benny and his on ball pressure was great vs him. Size wise they matched up fairly well, so I had no problem seeing Benny play the minutes he did. Benny also did a great job getting into the paint tonight. Problem was, they had a 6'11 dude waiting on him. I'm a huge Benny Parker fan. I think some of the things he does on the defensive end are overlooked by fans because he may not do quite as much on offense. Either way, its nice for us as fans to name off about 3-4 players that we think "should" be playing more outside of the top 3-4. Shows that we are finally getting some solid depth to this team.
