  1. only if he doesnt want to play for the new coach or the new coach doesnt want him. He signed his LOI so it would have to be mutual to be released. It doesn't have to be mutual, does it? I thought the NCAA allows recruits out of LOIs if the coach goes elsewhere?
  2. Are you serious? The NCAA is overwhelmed. They can't begin to police this stuff. SEC cheating especially is rampant. Alabama scholarship football players are getting a minimum of $10k-$30k per year. Much of it is funneled through churches. It's totally out of control. You're telling me that six NBA-type kids in one year, all 5-star recruits, want to play at Kentucky, knowing how hard it will be to get playing time, in addition to the guys who are already there? That's really hard for me to believe. These guys are each getting $100k plus. You are so full of it.....no way this would stay quiet.....ppl believe the only way you win is pay players......So I ASSume when we start winning we have to be paying players too as we have sucked for so long no way we can win without paying players too. Not saying it's the only way. Saying it's a prominent way.

That's really hard for me to believe. These guys are each getting $100k plus. You seriously think that Alabama is paying 85 guys $10,000-$30,000 a year? That's $850,000 - $2,550,000 a year at a minimum. Do you understand what you just said? Whatever your drinking/smoking you need to put it down. Yeah I'm telling you that good players want to go to a school where they can win, play for a year, and then go to the NBA. Yeah that never happens. Players only go where the money is. That means that Louisville must have offered Akoy more money than Nebraska could. Lol as if $850k to $2.225m is a lot of money for those programs and - more importantly - their boosters. I remember when we lost a recruit to Florida that Spinelli had been on HARD for a LONG time. Florida came in late and swooped him away. No surprise - they're a better program. Spinelli said Florida was paying him - the recruit wouldn't say one way or the other. But he was driving a brand new car shortly after. I also heard from a Nebraska booster that Barfknecht told him at a dinner that some of the SEC writers that he is buddies with just generally know that it's common knowledge how much players cost in the SEC. 4* point guard? $x-amount. 5* post? $y-amount. You're foolish if you think money doesn't change hands in college athletics - especially in the SEC conference. It's as obvious now as it was in the late 1980's. I would assume (and hope) that eventually the NCAA will bust some of those teams, but the cheaters always find a way to stay a step ahead of the enforcers (i.e. HGH).
  4. How are they contacting the winners?
  5. Well time will tell (maybe). But I don't see how he'll create for others when teams don't have to guard him at all.
  6. Marquette, providence, seton hall and St. John's. definitely a step down from the current big east but probably a top 5 conference
  7. I just don't see him as someone that will be able to create. Do you? I would never claim to be an excellent talent evaluator.
  8. Talley for reasons already stated.
  9. Why isn't it useful if he can get to the rim? That means he beat his guy off the dribble and there's a fairly decent chance he'll get to the free throw line. That seems useful to me. Would you consider him an offensive threat if he runs the offense efficiently and gets his teammates the ball in position to score? Also, let's remember he was reported to be battling through some injuries at least during the middle of the season. If he gets healthy that will help too. I'm not saying I want him gone - I'm just not sure I see him being much if a contributor. It's not like he CONSISTENTLY gets to the him, and when he does he's much more likely to get blocked than fouled. Maybe he kind find an open man, but his vision will be limited by his size. Running the offense efficiently and getting teammates shots would definitely be a good thing. And I thinks that looks to be his "ceiling." But I didn't see him do that this year. He really needs to develop a perimeter shot - he won't be able to effectively run the offense or beat his defender off the dribble when his defender sags 5 feet off of him.
  10. I agree he ran the break well. He was an inconsistent passer. A 5' 6" guy that can "get to the rim" isn't that useful on the big 10. I think we're in trouble I'd he's in our top 7 because I don't see how he becomes an offensive threat.
  11. Other than "pretty good defender", no one has said what Benny does well. Many have said he can develop into a role player... What role?
  12. The only thing missing is that signature win over a top team. We always seemed to get one if those. Hmmm...
  13. Iowa's resume looks a lot better on espn2... 71 rpi
  14. Agreed. And agreed with previous poster saying you don't "weed out" higher level schools for lower level schools. I thought k st was out because they signed other bugs. Let me sift through this 30 page thread....
  15. Agreed they need to win two. Committee has been coming down on major conference teams with weak non-con schedules.
  16. I'm guessing that all this guessing is a waste of time. His tweeting "games" are almost as bad as Agau's. But I'll play the game... if it "changes everything" and Nebraska was his favorite, that doesn't bode well for us. If Nebraska was his favorite and he was waiting to qualify, that doesn't "change everything". It would just allow him to commit. I think it's meaningless chatter. I would guess it means (to him) that more schools can go after him. Like someone else said, he's used up his visits (with one remaining). But if he did/does have a "dream school" that he's been waiting for an offer from and he gets it, I would guess that he doesn't need to take an official visit to choose them over the likes of Charlotte and us. Fortunately I'm trusting in Miles and his staff, regardless of what this unproven prospect decides to do.
  17. I don't disagree that Coleman and Holley are examples of bad recruiting. I don't agree that there have been numerous large misses. In my opinion, Elliason is the best example of a miss. Other major schools were after him and we didn't even try. Agau and Gessel are examples of not having our home state "locked down," but both went to programs that show(ed) more promise than Nebraska at the time. When Gessel committed to Iowa, we had zero momentum (which is why it was necessary for Doc to go). I don't think it mattered if Miles had another year or Agau was a junior... we still couldn't offer him the chance to play for a legendary coach on a Final Four-caliber team.
  18. I'm not sure about that with Bear. I think he did go to a prep school and didn't have as many offers from there. But I do know he had other major-conference offers. I can't imagine we had a 7-man recruiting class... now I have to look it up... Our 2009-10 roster has Ubel, Gallegos and Standhardinger as Freshmah, with Jeter and Hankins-Cole as JuCo transfers. Ok Holley transferred in as a sophomore. Did Coleman ever make it here? Holley chose us over Miami, IIRC.
  19. I don't doubt you... but coming out of high school Bear was a much more sought after recruit. I remember him having offers from Indiana (which means Sampson was cheating to get him!) and Memphis, among many others. Quick look at Rivals says he had offers from Cincy, Georgetown, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia, Oregon St... And I don't think we took Holley or Coleman over Greg Smith... I think we took Ubel, Gallegos, Standhardinger and Jeter. Which of those would you have taken Smith over coming out of High School (or JuCo in Jeter's case)? If I'm wrong about these years I'm going to sound like an idiot... I should probably look them up. But I still don't think a Big 12/10 program takes a chance on offering Smith a scholarship regardless (no one else did). I don't disagree with your last paragraph, but again... who knows how Eikmeier and Smith pan out if they ride the pine 2 years before sniffing the court? In a program where they are expected to be role players, not primary contributors. Plus we couldn't have Smith AND Ubel/Gallegos, as we certainly wouldn't have taken him over Standhardinger or Jeter at that time.
  20. The Mountain West isn't at our level... no matter what any RPI rankings say. It's probably harsh to say he "failed" at Iowa State, since he was only there for a year. Agree that Hill would've played more for us, but it's not like he was a huge miss. If I remember correctly (and I certainly could be wrong), the recruits we brought in instead of Smith (if he was even an option) were Ubel, Gallegos and Standhardinger. I don't think too many college coaches would've taken Smith over either any of them out of HS. That might've been Lance Jeter's year first year, too? I took a quick look on Rivals (I'm terrible at researching offers and what not), and it looks like his other offer was Northern Illinois, and he never visited either school before committing (Also looked at Dwight Smith who had no other offers). Eik graduated in '08, right? So we took Jorge, Bear Jones and Niemann over him? Niemann turned out to be a bust, but would you have taken Eikmeier over him out of high school? And just because those two kids panned out at CSU doesn't mean we were "wrong" on them. They went to a program that plays against lesser competition. They were able to play young and gain experience. They don't get that luxery at Nebraska, and who knows if they pan out? I would've been upset had we offered Carr or Dwight Smith a scholarship. Josh Jones wouldn't have been all that exciting (pretty sure he had mid-major interest only). He was the same year as Eikmeir, I think. At the time, I wouldn't have taken him over any of those guys that we got. I get the point that it's important to own your state... but to what extent? If we had signed all these guys, we're no better than we are now (not including the guys we really TRIED for but couldn't get). When we built a team around Turek, Mulheisan, JD and Wilkinson, we were OK but not good. It'd be OK to have one or two of the players listed as role-type players, but I have a hard time calling them "misses."
  21. Not sure I see Eik, Hill, or Smith as misses. Eik and Hill both failed at our level. Did Smith have any real offers out of high school? Is it a "miss" if a guy didn't really show promise in high school, but later developed into a serviceable player? Would anyone have considered him a good sign out of high school? I don't blame any coach for Agau or Gessel. Both went to programs that were/are in better places than ours at the time (as did Hill). Elliot and Young maybe. Who did we sign instead of them in their respective recruiting classes? Also, this could go in the general discussion thread.
  22. So should a player be able to wait until he's 25 and entering his athletic prime before starting his eligibility clock? Extreme - I know. But seriously, how does it work? If a potential recruit seeks other endeavors (say, minor league baseball), he's still able to come back and play 4 years when he decides to, right?
  23. We parked in the same area as you during the 90s norm. And the aforementioned alley the last 4 years since I graduated college. Are they gonna charge for parking in the baseball lot next year?? My Dad's biggest concern about PBA is free parking.
  24. Not with a losing record overall though Maybe... could not have a ton of upsets in the conference tournies... We have a high enough SOS and probably RPI Since the NCAA took over the NIT there has not been a team invited with a losing record. My guess is its an unwritten rule for them. I share your opinion... but assume Minnesota and Illinois make the dance and Iowa is left out. MAYBE the NIT would want more than one team from the nation's best conference? Probably wishful thinking...
  25. We're used to having to compete while shooting bad... advantage us?
