Would you play for Coach Hoiberg's Huskers?
Fullbacksympathy replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Did you seriously just make this statement given everything linked to McDermott in the last 2-3 seasons? He literally purchases players and talks about how they need to stay on the plantation. There are better examples of people who do things the right way in college basketball. Wow. Give Hoiberg a minute to show who he is and what he can do. He's already more successful as a coach than McDermott will ever be, and he's as high character as a coach can get. Truly. -

It was tongue in cheek but this year. -
Today's Sweet Sixteen Matchups...

I’m enjoying it because it basically signifies the end of blue blood NCAA basketball. They’ll still exist, but there’s just no way it can happen like before. These teams are all loaded with transfers. Free agency is the best thing to ever happen to Nebrasketball. We’re going to be the next Oregon State or whoever. If the image and likeness rules get passed, it will be an enormous advantage for us in addition to having the Transfer U coach running the show. -
Reuvers would help us a lot and give WB time to develop. No clue if that’s a possibility. Guessing the next commit will be a true PG, but I would kill for a true 5 that can shoot the ball.
-
Best thing about his shot is the behind the head release. Very hard to block—looks like Bird’s release.
-
He would potentially get destroyed defensively, but he might do more damage on the other end than what he gives up. Yeah I like Walker no doubt. I'm just thinking about other lineups, small ball, etc. It just hasn't been an option until now.

2021-2022 expectations
Fullbacksympathy replied to B-town hoopsfan's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Bubble. I would like to be nervous at the end of the season and for every game to matter. -
I almost wonder if he could play the 5--that's what I'd pitch to him. Point center. His post defense isn't bad and he's a good rebounder. Then you could keep Lat on the court. Use him like we used Roby. There isn't a 5 who could stay in front of Dalano at 225.
-
He'd be my #1. That's an NBA player. Wow.
-
Definitely possible. I think it depends on Banton's weight. He needs another 15 pounds to play the 3 or 4, and even then it might not be effective. The nice thing now is we can field a lights out 3pt lineup if we feel like it: Bryce Keisei/Kobe CJ Lat WB ^^^ that's what a 5 out roster usually looks like on offense with a little more weight at the 5. I don't know how often we'd use it, but Bryce could go crazy with 4 other legitimate 3pt threats outside of the lane. P&R with WB and 3 solid shooters could be glorious. Really, you could swap Trey or Banton at point and still be effective with a drive and kick approach. You could also use Shamiel at the 5 and do the exact same thing with him. 3pt shooting matters so much. It's just nice to see options, and long term, that's what Fred is setting up.
-
Bryce Trey CJ Dalano Walker It might not look like it on the surface, but this potential starting lineup is a significant upgrade in talent if he gets a waiver next season. CJ is a true SF and can shoot it. He's perfect at the 3. If little bro joins and Bryce doesn't declare early, we could have the best backcourt in the country in two years. Insanity.

Would you play for Coach Hoiberg's Huskers?
Fullbacksympathy replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
1. I don't believe you. I'm comfortable with the disagreement. Every team loses multiple players to the transfer portal. That's actually true. 4. You don't stop. That's what you tell the players on your roster and the players coming in. If you recruit a 5* guard, a 4* forward, the #1 JUCO C, and a couple of sharp shooting specialists, like Hoiberg did in less than two years here, it's not likely this will be a problem. But you don't stop. You raise your talent base and do all you can to keep it high. I guess I don't understand the mass exodus you are referring to prior to year 3 in Hoiberg's program. Teddy is talented, but it didn't work here with him. Who else is leaving for greener pastures that will hurt our roster next year? -

1. That’s every team, and it looks like we’re bringing all of our best players back for year three who weren’t headcases. That’s a sign of good culture. 2. See #1. 3. I would be surprised if any of the current transfers on our roster were shown the door. I’m guessing they left based on their own standards not being met at prior institutions. 4. Absolutely, and if you can’t retain your spot, that’s your problem. Also, with regard to contacting “every” transfer, that’s actually not true, so you might be a bit of a headcase yourself as a prospect with that sort of dramatic blanketing (major red flag). We just contact good transfers to complement our Top 25 recruiting classes. We rescind our offer to you. We will happily refer you to the Prairie View A&M Panther staff so you don’t have to worry about competing. -

84% free throw shooter and 33% from 3. Elite athlete who would have a wide open court with our shooters coming in next season. I'm sure Doc can get him to play D. Sign me up. -
2021 C Oleg Kojenets - VC
Fullbacksympathy replied to Go Big Fred's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
He and Keita are really similar players--both skilled on the low block and can reliably hit a mid range baseline shot. Liking this more and more. I think Keita will start when he arrives and the backup C will be up for grabs if this kid commits. Andre probably has the highest ceiling out of the three, but we need skill now. Regardless, we could be pretty happy with the C spot for quite awhile with these guys signed up. -

Love this pickup if we can pull it off. That kid has great feet and feel. Even in his earlier videos with some missed bunnies you can see he's been coached extremely well with his back to the basket. In the more modern video he's put on good weight so it's not just some skinny kid. I think he'll be a legitimate B1G center and will be our best back to the basket post player the second he arrives. He's physical too. Not strong yet, but physical and willing to rebound. Probably a 4* if he played in the states longer. He and Breidenbach would be an incredible front court down the road... it would be like having a Wisconsin front court--skills, passing, shooting, sturdy. -
This is nuts. Really like Thad. He's one of the best in the country. He would've dominated at IU.

Fantastic news.

Hoiberg hasn’t even been here 2 years yet. There is an elite recruiting class coming in (and he isn’t done). I don’t think <2 years and only 1 offseason is a lot of time. Give him a sec.

Teammates!!!

If we get this PG somehow, I bet we land Traudt. Would we be #1 then?!

This is wild.

To be clear, shooting well doesn’t equal better overall player, but Bryce and Tominaga (just went 11/16 from 3 and followed it up with a 7/7 game) are known shooters. I don’t think they’ll be scared to pull the trigger. Tominaga and Breidenbach simply give us options if we want to space the court or bust a zone. All three guys give us a different look than we can get now because of their shooting. That’s why they are more valuable as shooters for what we need next season. I’m not pessimistic at all. The OP was talking about lack of talent. I only think we’re missing bonafide shooters. There are games where we’ll need 5 3pt threats on the court and now we can actually do that. I live the talent we’re bringing back. The incoming shooters will be valuable complements. Trey Keisei Bryce Lat Breidenbach ^^^ that’s an interesting lineup to me. Not necessarily as starters, but an interesting option.
-
They are more valuable given what we already have on the roster, yes. For Banton and Trey, they are going to become way more effective with their slashing skill set if the lane is open and they have multiple dangerous guys to kick to. I think both of them will score more points next season just because of spacing.
