UNO is about 25 spots higher than Maine in KenPom and also hung around with KU for 30 minutes. -

I'll be the resident optimist (for one week at least)... NU - 81 Maine - 63 Non-con = 6 wins Season = 15 wins! -
What do you suppose Hoiberg's (unwritten) metric was?
HuscurAdam replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Stay out of the 1st day of the B1G tournament - OR - Finish at 0.500 record or better - OR - Look like a competent & competitive team every night, even if the final record is a bit below 0.500 -
I love this idea but it will *never* happen. The biggest allure of the tournament for the casual fan isn't the compelling matchups, it's the bracket and everything that goes along with it (cough-gambling-cough). Re-seeding would take away the #1 thing that keeps casual fans engaged.

We don't have an available scholarship, do we?

The hiring of Zeigler confirmed my (quite obvious) prediction that the new assistant would be a Black coach who can recruit.

And there it is.

2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now
HuscurAdam replied to royalfan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Yes, but if academics were *that* important to him, he probably wouldn't have committed to Oklahoma State previously. -
I haven't heard any names of potential replacements; has anyone else? To be perfectly blunt, it's gotta be a Black coach who can recruit, right?

USC & UCLA TO JOIN BIG TEN (beginning 2024)!
HuscurAdam replied to Red Don's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I stand corrected. My 10 second research on that was obviously too hurried. However, I stand behind the rest of my argument. -

Nebraska WAS an AAU member at the time they joined the B1G. And Oregon has none of the other qualities that made NU attractive at the time. NU was a big national brand with elite fan support and the TV ratings to match and is one of the few true blue bloods of the sport. -

I keep seeing the chatter about Oregon joining the B1G, but it is not going to happen (unless we're talking about adding 5+ teams). These things are being driven primarily by TV ratings and media markets and Oregon doesn't bring much of either to the table. Furthermore, Oregon is neither an AAU member nor an elite academic institution, things I believe the B1G legitimately cares about. Oregon has a nice brand going for it thanks to Nike, but it doesn't translate to big TV ratings and would likely fade with a few down seasons (like NU is experiencing). The people making these decisions are taking a long-term global view of the landscape and Oregon just doesn't fit the bill for the reasons cited. Here are what I think are the most likely candidates for further B1G expansion: 1 – Notre Dame (No brainer. Not AAU, but elite academically. Dripping with tradition and is a HUGE ratings draw despite small TV market) 2 – Stanford (SF is #6 TV market. Elite academically and a strong national brand name. Very good in all sports, but not elite). 3 – Arizona State (Phoenix is #12 TV market. Close travel partner for LA schools. Not AAU, but solid enough academically to justify) 4 – Washington (Seattle is #14 TV market. Solid program history including a recent CFP appearance and a national title in football. AAU member.) 5 – Colorado (Denver is #17 TV market. Bridges gap to western schools. Has some FB history including a natty. AAU member with strong academics.) 6 – North Carolina/Duke (would be higher but ACC grant of rights is a big problem for them) 7 – Oregon? (Resides in #81 media market and has middling academics. See above.) NOTE: I recognize the risk of having to eat my words is Oregon is added, but it would be a terrible choice unless were talking about a 20+ team super conference. -
OR you keep all 7 and say Miles made one NCAA tourney and had five bottom-4 finishes in 7 years. I loved the guy, but that's just not good enough.

Gessell has made it clear he wanted to come here but Doc didn't recruit him.

2022 PG Cale Jacobsen -> Nebraska
HuscurAdam replied to Huskerpapa's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Could be a nice under-the-radar get. He has good positional size and flashes decent athleticism, if not explosiveness, and he WANTS to be a Husker, which is a quality that is desperately needed on the team, but hard to quantify. I know most of the Summit League teams and a couple of MVC schools were sniffing around, but did he have any D-1 offers? -
What is needed for HuskerHoops to be successful?

This day could be one heck of a roller coaster of emotions for me... USMNT World Cup -> NU @ Iowa -> Nebrasketball in Orlando Hopefully it doesn't end up being the mother of all groin-kicks!
