  1. I think you remember John Amaeche playing for Penn State. Don Ameche played Mortimer Duke in Trading Places. I think Handy was making a funny.
  2. I might be the only one who gets that. We'll see.
  3. We showed up as an NIT 4 seed, first time I've seen us with any postseason forecast: https://www.dratings.com/predictor/bracketology/ Hey, it's a start!
  4. NU 79 Wis 64 They're coming unraveled.
  5. Oh, sure, bring facts to the discussion . . .
  6. Tanner's one positive on offense over Duby and Jordy is that he actually sets the high screen, waits for his teammate to use it, and then goes hard to the basket. He's not an offensive threat on his own, but just doing that helps create space by forcing a defender to account for him. I can't stand watching a screener arrive late and leave early. No purpose in running the set if you're not going to do it right. Duby's limited offensively, but he could provide some easy points if he'd execute this better. He's faster than Tanner and more explosive to the rim. Somebody had to provide an old man rant of the day, happy to oblige.
  7. I spoke against a "must win" analysis a few weeks back before one of our games. I'd call this a must win. We have to pick up some road wins and this one is just sitting there waiting for us with McIntosh out. I get that we can always pull out the "but we put together a late run in 2014" card, but that just doesn't happen very often. We have to win the opportunities presented now.
  8. I haven't seen him play this year, but dominating isn't the right word for him. He's not a back to the basket player who can use his height to score over people. Much more likely to get points on lobs, drives and jumpers. He also plays with a really good high school guard, Nate Thayer, who in a lot of ways is more the focus of their offense.
  9. He's skilled and runs the floor well, but he's skinny and likely to redshirt. Are you saying he's not dominating? Those are pretty good numbers.
  10. Right you are regarding KenPom. Like Jacob Marley, we wear the chain we forged in our earlier life. However, we're 102 in TeamRankings, 84 in Massey and 94 in T-Rank. I'm going to trust my eyes instead of numbers, I think we're better than that.
  11. The physical part is really hard to judge in the mixtape because he's playing against 8th graders (he's also one, of course). But the skills obviously translate to high school varsity level.
  12. No, I believe that's only for preseason and the first 10 games. That's why I was puzzling earlier over why we're so low. It looks like we're playing so much better, but our offensive and defensive ratings are mediocre.
  13. That place was intimidating. There was barely room along the sidelines to throw in the ball and the noise had a raw sound to it. Probably the crappy acoustics or something, but while the PBA is loud, it also seems a duller sound. At the Coliseum, it was more like you could hear the individual voices. It's also possible my ears are shot from going to too many metal concerts. IDK what to make of this thread, but it it's always great to go down memory lane.
  14. Bell West freshman Chucky Hepburn with 40 last night against Westside. Haven't seen him yet, but plan to.
  15. Hard to respond specifically since I don't subscribe. Like I said, not knocking any of your stuff, I think you're very knowledgable and I'm not trying to shame you for your profession. But the bigger point is whether a reader's going to get a consistently objective view when getting news that's geared to present a certain point of view. Ultimately, such outlets are not going to take a chance on turning off subscribers or of offending their sources within the university. You're a Creighton alum, surely you must have some thoughts on the dirty birds' 7 straight wins in the series. But you're not going to suggest a story for HV on how they're clearly the better program. The CU Rivals site will do that. Don't be offended by my remarks. The world's changing because of the information revolution. Businesses produce their own news videos now, people publish their own books, there are thousands of news websites. Maybe traditional objective journalism in the future will only have a place in the coverage of government and politics. But I'm old and prefer to read a lot of points of view. Peace to you, young man.
  16. Right, it's how you're playing. Part of the reason we've moved up since the start of the season is that our preseason KenPom ranking reflected a lot of past performance. That's disappeared from the equation now, and our body of work after 13 games puts us at 86. NW, for example, started much higher in preseason, dropped a lot as they struggled and now has started moving up. Apparently something we're doing isn't translating, or maybe I'm misjudging what I see on the court. IDK, maybe I should worry about what to get my wife for Christmas.
  17. I'm into analytics and this has bothered me for the last week or so. My level of optimism over our play hasn't been matched by the numbers guys. It's not just KenPom. We're 93 in TeamRankings and 81 in Massey. These things measure how you play, not just the W/Ls, and they're not showing much. Northwestern, for example, was playing poorly earlier and had dropped into the upper 50s. Now they seem to be putting it together and they're into the mid-40s. Strictly from a numbers standpoint, I wonder what's not translating into the analysis. (Not talking about RPI, that's an entirely different discussion and not worth a second thought at this point in the season.)
  18. This is worth a read: http://amp.si.com/tech-media/2017/12/20/sports-media-reporting-objective-journalism-fans?__twitter_impression=true There's a lot of discussion here about reporters who are "negative." Those reporters will tell you they're objective. It points to the bigger issue that people don't want to confront opinions that differ from their own. (They get their "news" from MSNBC and Fox.) I'm not knocking any of the Rivals/Hail Varsity/etc. stuff, but I don't subscribe. I'm not looking for boosterism, I'd prefer to hear a real take on NU. I might not agree with it, but so what? I'd prefer to have a wide range of views to consider when making my own judgment.
  19. The next 3 have odds of 99, 96 and 87 percent according to TeamRankings. NW is 17 percent and Purdue 3 percent. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/team/nebraska-cornhuskers/projections I think it's easy to look at some BIG teams struggling and assume we're going to beat them, but they're looking at us the same way.
