Level of Expectations for 2013-14 Team
huskerbaseball13 replied to aghusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think making the NIT would be a good step in the right direction. Considering all the new players we will have on the floor I think it will take some time for them to mesh. Just hope to keep making progress. -
We're probably not going to land Turner but it would be great to be in his top 25-10 It sounds like for whatever reason we have backed off of him....so even though he has a long list...it will be interesting to see if we make it.
-
I hope we keep on him. Out of all the PG's we are in on right now I think Nick is my favorite.

Sounds like he's been tearing it up in Europe. The guy is a bball player. http://basketball.eurobasket.com/Denmark/news/Denmark_win_U20_Nordic_Championship_of_Men/320794 -
Big news! It may take awhile for him to adjust to the college game but hes going to be VERY good down the road.
-
Nice! Going to be a fun weekend.

My guess he stays close to home....but I think it's a good sign at how well our coaches do at scouting talent. We were in on him before alot of schools.

Nebraska only losing 1 player from their recruited class to the draft is HUGE for Husker baseball. In Boldt we will have a top 20 talent on the field next year. His injury hurt him...but his asking price of over 2 million was too much for teams to take a risk on. Knutson and Burkamper are also two kids that could have went in the 3-5 round of the MLB draft but teams didnt want to pay off. Big off-season for Husker baseball. Find a few bats to replace the seniors from last year and shore up middle relief....with the starting rotation returning NU could be dangerous next year.

Uh, no... Adrien may be in the NBA now, but: Adrien was not selected in the 2009 NBA Draft, but later signed with Spanish league's Leite RÃo Breogán in Lugo, Galicia. Maybe his development in college wasn't adequate, so he needed to work on his game overseas with another coach... ...So that is 1 player that went straight from his coaching to the NBA, without needing to be further developed by another coach... "Hunter helped develop four NBA players at Georgetown, including Roy Hibbert and Greg Monroe, and will likely have a third NBA first-round pick this month, when Big East player of the year Otto Porter will likely be among the top five picks." --There is a reason why Sellers was an assistant at Hofstra when Creighton hired him, while Kenya Hunter was the longest-tenured member of John Thompson III's staff at Georgetown when Nebraska hired him. Honestly, you are reaching. As I said above though, it doesn't really matter. The question from here is whether the two assistants can do the same job at their new locales. Posting on here so much is really cutting in to your time set aside to tweet at 15 year olds begging them to come to Creighton. #pathetic

Kenya Hunter Hired as New Asst.

Daledangdarn...you shouldn't act surprised. Tom is completely obsessed with all things Huskers. He comes here and tries to act innocent and civil with each new screen name but he eventually outs himself. But alas today is a great day to be a Husker and a day for doublejayalum to cry in his wheaties. -

IMO he looks like a very solid prospect. Hope we can land him. Rumor has it he was very close to committing to Providence. -

Double Creighton Fan signed up and said he doesn't follow recruiting much......explains why he spends so much time on the recruiting forum. -

Something about those two highlighted statements that don't seem to go together. He has no other offers ... but he's a "top recruit"? He seems to have good ball skills. But I'm not as impressed with his highlight film as others seem to be. One scouting report I read about him says he tends to over dribble. I can see that. They also call him a "pass first" point guard and, from the videos, that almost seems to be the description to a fault. He seems to pass up easier opportunities to take it to the rack in order to make some circus pass. The competition he was playing against didn't look very good. And his shot, while it seemed to go in a lot in the video, isn't very pretty. He has a low release point and it's sort of a quirky looking shot. I suspect he'll need a lot of space to get that shot off when he's playing against college defenses. He is only a sophomore, so he still has lots of time to improve. Just going off of one website he is listed as a top 30 recruit and top 5 in the state of Texas. If that's the case...I'd consider him a top recruit. Offers will roll in over the summer I'm assuming. -
I heard a few people start to question the Erstad hire after the OSU fiasco HB, what do you think? I like the guy myself and just think we need to give him time to get this thing rolling again. I like Ersty a lot, and enjoy listening to him talk about baseball. I like his intensity and straight-forward approach. I tend to be patient and realistic about these things, but I admit I was wavering during much of this season. Not sure what I think of Bolt yet; he makes some strange decisions on sending runners home. But I like the approach on the other bases. It's too early to tell if Ersty will recruit well enough. This team will have big player losses after the season, so there better be help on the way. It was nice to followup on the Arkansas sweep with a 10-2 win today. Hopfully we'll take care of business the rest of the series. This staff's first "real" recruiting class is nationally ranked. As someone who watches the baseball program very closely compared to most other Husker fans id say the most encouraging thing this staff has done so far is on the recruiting trail We are bringing in some of the midwest best talent and cherry picking some talent out of Texas/Cali. No doubt a talent influx is needed...thus far, on paper...this staff has done a really good job in bringing in talent. We have quite a bit to sell as a program and having Erstad has your head coach is only icing on the cake. I haven't agreed with everything the staff has done and the up and down play this year has been frustrating....more so on the scheduling tactics early on but I may be incorrect on that by years end.

It might be because of his .176 average this year and 26 K's in 68 AB's. No doubt Bubba has tremendous raw talent...and is very young but he has quite a bit of work to do from what I have heard. Both in the field and at the plate. Quite honestly I won't be shocked one way or the other if he ends up a MLB All-Star or it five years down the road he is struggling in minor league ball. If he finds out baseball isn't the sport for him I hope he reconsiders playing for the Big Red.

Talking to someone whose seen both Smith and Atewe...said Atewe has more potential but Smith is ready to play now. Looking at film he looks like someone who can give us 20-25 minutes which will be much needed.
-
Not sure if we beat them if McDermott leaves because its in Omaha. But if he does leave Id take our current roster over theirs.
-
What's even more interesting was Atewe and Webster tweeting at each other. Tai is N folks...and it looks like Atewe is also.
-
And to think he was almost our coach. At the time I was excited about the chance of landing Howland. Sometimes a change of scenery does people good but in hindsight no chance do I take Howland over Miles.
-
Colorado State was a fun team to watch. If we look like that in a couple years I will be a happy man. What a fantastic job Miles did at that program.

Really well said. People who are saying this is a bad move because Greg McDermott failed at Iowa State are being shortsighted. It's not about McDermott, it's about the raising the program's profile. No doubt this does it. Great move by Creighton. Who said that?? It was an easy decision based money and nobody knows what the Valley was going to look like in 10 years. It's hilarious though because some of the same people who bashed Nebraska's move are the same people who 'Love" this move for Creighton. Who hated the Nebraska move but loved the Creighton move?Nobody. He's just a Creighton hater. That's hilarious coming from you of all people. And yes, I'm a Creighton hater and proud of it...not really because of Creighton...but more so because people like you.
