I guess because Kamisky's a...I mean he's not a...Oh, I'm just so white and confused.

Would you also mind predicting that we will lose to Creighton and go 5-13 in conference again next season?
-
Rooting for Whiskey if for no other reason than I'm tired of Duke, Kentucky, UConn or North Carolina winning every year. But also for the B1G. Go B1G!!
-
Anyone watching? Duke up on MSU pretty big. There goes the chances of the one team left I was sort of rooting for.

Comparing list one allows the benefit of hindsight, which list two does not. It will be interesting to see what hindsight tells us March 2016. I'm hopeful too, but I want to be even more hopeful. And I want it NOW!!! But seriously, I'm obviously not holding out a ton of hope for TP, but man, if he comes back, AND we pick up a big (Edwards?)....hope will abound!

I won't be long before they'll be saying, "Nebraska doesn't rebuild, it reloads."

Yes, stepping back, we've been having conversations since last year about TP possibly leaving early, and what a nice problem it was to have. The last Husker to go pro was...Venson? That's a hella long time ago.

Drop head, shoulders. [siigggh]

Definitely a one-and-doner.

I'd rather focus on the players coming back and coming in.

I'll stick up for TP here, assuming you are referring to him. Besides the obvious fact that he wants to play in the NBA, and that he would leave if he were given assurance that this would happen with this year's draft, I've never heard (and would not assume) that he doesn't want to be here. -
After Terran's first year I think he could have gone pro if he wanted. I think he could have landed on an NBA roster for sure. After this season, the consensus is he probably isn't good enough make it, even though his statistics are almost the exactly same, and in some cases better. I know it isn't always the case, but I definitely think that a team's success factors into a players potential for the NBA. So with everything TP has to consider, I would think he has to look at how good he thinks we'll be next year, and consider whether that will be a help or a hindrance to his chances at getting drafted.

Wow, that's such an obscure word even the built in spell check thought it was a misspelling. Thanks for "word of the day" lesson 49r.

Tarin Smith Announces Decision to Transfer
hal9000 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Id say its different than Nate Hawkins. Hawkins shouldn't have been playing but he thought he should. Tarin should have been playing over Parker There's no easy way to say this, and it is with all due respect to Benny, but unless we can pickup someone else it looks like we'll be seeing a lot of BP next year, and frankly I was hoping Tarin and Glynn would be picking up most of his minutes. -
Tarin Smith Announces Decision to Transfer

Well poop on a stick! -
Well this was news I wasn't expecting to sit down to this eventing. As of right now I'd have to say this pretty much sucks for us. I was optimistic that Walt was going to regain his touch next season and even develop more of an inside game. Let's see what Tim and crew can do. Hopefully this will work out in the long run. I wish him nothing but the best, and I commend him for making what must have been a hard decision. If you heart is not in it, and there's no shame in admitting that, then you do what is best for yourself and the team.

This is how I would defend him

2. "....but teaching spacing, ball movements, and what good 3pt shots look like is vital to our success. We need to be shooting the 3-ball well, and it starts from the head man allowing his team to subconsciously feel confident shooting it when they feel they are ready to shoot it." I definitely agree with this thought. As I watched Wisconsin and Notre Dame last night, what stood out to me most was how five players on the floor did so well will spacing. Players without the ball moved well, always working to get to open spots on the floor. These teams just seemed to always be able to find an open player with ball movement, dribble penetration, and kicking back out for the open 3. Also, part of the reason they were able to do this so successfully is because they always had five guys on the floor who could hurt you from anywhere. I think Miles is trying to address this with current recruiting. Obviously we can't just have 5 spot shooters out there, but it seems like he is trying to get versatile players in. For this reason, my hopes are high on McVeigh, as they were with Fuller last year. 3. At the end of the day, the object to winning basketball games is to outscore the opponent.

TP has some flaws in his game but once again has been the best player on the team for the last two years and the biggest reason we made the tourney for the first time this century. He's easily a net positive when you factor everything and we definitely want him back. I'm with Dimes and HB on this! Terran Petteway certainly has his (well-publicized) flaws, but, in addition to being someone of high character (as are all the Team members) is the main reason we were able to make our Tournament run last season. I've all but given up on trying to defend Terran on some other boards I frequent. It seems the resident 'Experts' (or at least those who have been on the board the longest) have determined he is a 'ball-hog,' not a 'team-player,' and even someone they would just as soon not have on their team! And for some reason, Miles refuses to impose discipline on the team. Then, it just seems to feed on itself! " Yeah! Yeah!! Yeah, Bench 'em!" (echo, repeat) I'm just a Noob, but I think I've learned enough here to believe if you bench Petteway to 'teach him a lesson,' the games you've been losing by single-digits will quickly become those you'll start losing by double-digits. Best Wishes to Terran, whatever he decides! If TP visits any of the forums (and he shouldn't) I at least hope it is this one.

Watching Wisconsin/UNC. Sam Dekker's stock is most definitely on the up. Might see him forgo his senior season. Helluva game. One point Wiscy lead with about a minute left.
-
News to me. Is this just a gut feeling, or is there something substantive to this?
-
Let's hope that changes next year, with more shooting options on the floor. Very informative, very telling. As notable as Tai's statistics were, Pitchford's are as equally notable, and a pretty good indicator of why we struggled this year. I'm hoping McViegh can contribute immediately. Will White, Fuller, and McViegh help spread the floor for Shields and Petteway to be able to attack more effectively? I kudoed the blooger for his site. Very appreciative of someone putting in the work for this.

A Look Towards Next Year, and Offensive Style
hal9000 replied to hal9000's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Thanks Norm, I wasn't clear on that. I need to do my research a little better. -
As we wait on news of Terran's decision, I thought I'd throw out a couple thoughts and pose a question with a view towards next season, if that's okay. First of all I feel it is vital for our chances of getting back to the NCAA Tournament that Terran comes back for his senior year. I'm not saying we can't make it without him, but when I think of our offensive potential next year with Terran, it gives me a lot more hope. We would have three major scoring threats with Petteway, Shields and White. That means that at any one time on the court we should always have at least two major scoring threats, instead of this year where we sometimes had only one, or maybe even none, depending on TP and Shields' foul situation or need of rest. Then throw in Pitchford who will hopefully get his touch back, Smith, Morrow, and Watson, and I really feel like we have a shot at the upper half. Without TP, just my opinion mind you, I think we're probably an NIT level team. Then my question is in regards to the style of offense Miles will run next year. What do you think it will be? I presume that Miles, like most coaches, recruits players generally speaking with an eye towards a certain type of offense he wants to run. If a coach plans on running his offense from the inside out, for example, he would load up with more bigs. I'm trying to figure out if Miles plans on changing up the offense any with the new recruits he's brought in, or will he continue to go with motion? One interesting note, in Miles final Husker wrap-up with Greg Sharpe he said expect a spring signing, a shooting guard. Not sure if that is old news, but it was telling to me that we're not looking at a big man. Real excited about incoming players. Miles spoke about them on the show. Said we landed 2 of the top 5 players in Chicago. Morrow shoots a high percentage, can hit from outside but needs to improve his footwork. They showed highlights of him scoring over Jahlil Okafor. Watson a play making point guard. He'll get you whatever you need. Handles full court pressure well. Jacobson is a crafty stretch 4, not overly quick but versatile. He calls White KFC because he gets buckets. Plays both ends. Didn't talk about McVeigh that I saw, but I could have missed it. My hopes/predictions for next years players, with the understanding there could be attrition, including Petteway. Starters: Pitchford, Petteway, White, Shields, and Watson Subs: Smith, Morrow, Jacobson,Fuller, Webster Redshirt: McVeigh, (maybe Hammonds)
