Think think that will happen shortly after exit from Big Ten Tourney? How soon do we hear from Moos do you think?

I'm so weary of rebuilds. I'm so weary of waiting 5-7 years to see if another up and comer mid-major or assistant can figure out how to win in the Big Ten. At least TM has 7 years experience as a head coach in the BIG, and he is smart, and presumably learning what it takes to win in the conference. I have about as much confidence in a new mid-major coach coming in and learning from scratch what it takes to win in a power conference vs. a coach who has been doing it for a while and has had at least a modicum of success. That said, I'm also weary of losing, so if Moos can hook Hoiberg or Matta or Sampson, I can't argue with that.

I RE-read your post, and you're right, you did not say anything about making the tournament. Over the course of the season, and particularly recently I hear a lot of people make a statement to the effect of, "Miles knows Moos expects him to make the tournament or he's out of a job," or some variance of it. I've heard it so much that it's become part of the narrative, but it is not factually true. So perhaps I was putting that sentiment on you as well, and I was wrong to do so.

Well, for the record there has never been any official public statement made by the Administration specifying that if TM does not make the NCAA Tourney he would not be retained. Fans and media simply made the inference based on the 1 year extension, and not unjustly I would add. It has also been fans and media adding the “even if there is an injury,” clause. Again, just for the record. That said, 100% agree, Moos does not “stick” with Miles.

Though most of these schools have a better base of recruiting which is, as Coach Pettit points out, a major challenge for us since we aren't already well established like Kansas, Missouri, or Iowa State. Moos is already working the phones with no doubt the top college coaching candidates in the country. If I'm honest, I can't argue with landing someone big like Hoiberg or Sampson. But I still have a lot of trust in Tim Miles, and if he builds sustained success here, I think he chooses to stick around, unlike the other big names we are trying to attract. My opinion, and it's just mine, is retain him if it doesn't look like there are any takers from the top tier coaches.
