  1. Back at 'ya, redsteve. And same to the rest of our bigred clan.
  2. I agree. Markowski has been known to pick up a few fouls. Without an adequate backup, there were times, I feel, she throttled down a bit. Probably, instructed to do so. Not necessary now. Let her go full tilt, then bring in Maggie. And, I think both are best in the post. Let Izzie and Stewart handle the "4".
  3. I think Maggie, backing Markowski at the 5, will make Stewart more effective. She doesn't have the length or quickness to play the post. She will contribute at the forward positions. And you mentioned, she can really shoot. Good to have Sam and Izzie back. But, neither seemed 100% yet. Both played a bit tentatively. It might take a few games to get up to speed. Fortunately, it is still December. Lots of battles between now and March. With Weidner out, we'll need others to bring the energy, every game. Might be time to feature the "Kendalls". I expect MM will also contribute, more and more. She seems to naturally keep balls alive, scramble, scrap, and compete full throttle. Number 44 was certainly worth the wait.

  5. Per Huskers.com, Alexis Markowski earned the first Big Ten Player-of-the-Week award of her career after producing 22 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high-matching three blocks in the Nebraska women's basketball team's 66-39 win over Wyoming on Sunday. The 6-3 center from Lincoln, who is on the Preseason Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, hit 9-of-14 shots from the field, including 4-of-5 three-pointers against the Cowgirls.Markowski, who scored the game's first seven points to put Nebraska in the driver's seat from start to finish against Wyoming, was the 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and an eight-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season. Her performance against Wyoming came against 2022 Mountain West Freshman of the Year Allyson Fertig. Markowski limited the 6-4 Fertig to just four points and five rebounds on 2-of-7 shooting. Three of Fertig's five misses were blocked.Markowski and the Huskers close non-conference play at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday by battling No. 20 Kansas. Tip-off between the Huskers and Jayhawks is set for 6 p.m. with tickets available now at Huskers.com.
  6. It has been awhile since I enjoyed watching a game as much as yesterday. No drama. Little suspense. Sam was back. Mendelson made her first appearance and shined. What impressed me most; when she made a play, everyone around her smiled and was excited. Thanks ladies. That was fun.
  7. MM checks in. First impression, she runs the court well. A type of athleticism you don't notice on the volleyball court. Sam checked in too. Better numbers today.

Nebraska has won 22 of its last 23 at PBA with 21 wins by double figures, including last year's 72-61 win over Wyoming (Dec. 22, 2021).
  9. Players like Emily Wood and Whitney Brown, are good additions to a team. Both were walk-ons. Teams need role players. Not sure you give up a 4 year, full ride, to a role player. Preferred Walk On might be a path we better utilize. And, the portal has changed the game. Short term, special needs can be met with a transfer. On the flip side, the transfer portal goes both ways. NIL also plays a part. Managing a competitive roster appears to get more complicated by the day. Like game management and X's and O's, some staffs will do it better than others. Here's hoping, we'll be one of the better ones.
  10. I see she has committed. Could it be as a preferred walk-on or something else? I don't read where she will be on basketball scholarship.
  11. Hope we heal up some in the next week. I grabbed the paragraph below from Huskers.com. Nebraska will take Finals Week off from competition before returning to Pinnacle Bank Arena to host Wyoming on Sunday, Dec. 18. Tip-off between the Huskers and Cowgirls is set for 2 p.m. with tickets available now at Huskers.com. Live statewide television coverage will be provided by Nebraska Public Media with a live video stream for subscribers of B1G+. A live radio broadcast will be available from the Huskers Radio Network on Huskers.com.
  12. Huskers.com mentions 'upper body injury suffered in practice on Tuesday', and status is 'Day to Day'. Haven't seen anything else.

  14. Hard to play with all-out effort, without plenty of bodies. Our defensive effort has been a topic of discussion this year. Does our short roster have anything to do with that? IMO, give out all 15 scholarships, even if several are one year eligible transfer portal players. If the player is looking for less competition, is she the right fit? Bella played plenty of minutes, and she still left. It is a different time.
  15. Brady too? Imagine no Dillard yet. Playing with 8?
  16. Looks like it happened November 17th at the end of the game. They mention she twisted an ankle in the article.
  17. I copy and paste my little blurb from the Huskers.com site. They have a more detailed article on each game. Just select WBB as the team, and you are in business.

  19. Do you know why Brady did not make the trip? Is she injured? We managed well without her, but another healthy body on the bench, wouldn't hurt.
  20. Jazz, Krull, and Weidner really handled the pressure well. Huskers looked prepared for this one. Even when down in the first half, they were playing under control. Kudos to staff and players for this one.
  21. Huskers win, 90 - 67. 2nd half was a Masterpiece!!
  22. Lady Huskers up 4 after 3 quarters. Jazz is on fire. 27 points so far.
  23. Maryland up 36 - 31 at the half. Looks like a short bench again. Not seeing Brady or Dillard on the bench, but could be mistaken. Sam might be dressed, but doubt she plays. Markowski picked up her 2nd foul early in the 2nd period, and sat the rest. Fairly close game, considering.

  25. And Jazz made the All B1G Defense 1st team last year. Not looking like a repeat performance. (so far)
