HHCC Game #06 - neut. Marist (Nov. 24, 6:30 PM CST)

Would LOVE this, but he was recently quoted as saying he doesn't miss coaching college basketball. He prefers coaching professional basketball. ?

We should run against everybody. This half-court protect-the-ball/possession offense is not working (look at the turnovers). We don't shoot well. Why not use our athleticism to run and dunk on people? Because Tim Miles refuses to change. That's why.

Semantics. Saying we have a higher ceiling implies that we will be better than them. To be better than them, we have to improve. Counting on "the guy" hasn't gone so well the past three years. (2014 was the anomaly.) Thinking "it'll start to gel" is not a legitimate reason you think we will improve. A lot of what you mentioned is on the coaching staff to figure out. Unfortunately, recent history tells us that is unlikely.

If Bill Moos is willing to hire Ricky Pitino, I'm scared to death to see who he's going to hire as the next football coach.

Give up a wide open three to push the deficit back to 9? Shocker... -

UCF has turned us into a jump-shooting team early. Bad sign for a Husker team that doesn't shoot well... -

The Kansas game was merely part of the timeline. The only games I feel we "shoulda'-done-better" in are the Incarnate Word, Samford, and Gardner-Webb games. My point is, the Creighton losses are hard on us every year and it takes us time to recover. I 100% agree with @49r - Tim Miles will never beat McDermott in basketball. Actually, I would guess Greg beats him in golf, too...

Northwestern just experienced the proverbial "Creighton slump". We've experienced it quite a bit the past few years: - 2014-15: lost to Creighton 65-55 at home; three days later lost to Incarnate Word - 2015-16: lost at Creighton 83-67; four days later barely beat Rhode Island (we trailed for most of the game) then lost to Samford - 2016-17: lost to Creighton 77-62 at home; lost to Kansas three days later; then lost to Gardner-Webb I truly believe that if we had beat Creighton in either of those seasons, the psyche of the team would have been better thus increasing the likelihood of avoiding those bad losses (Incarnate Word, Samford, Gardner-Webb). I guess what I'm saying is, watch out for UTSA on December 20th!

Postgame chatter: Vol: 10; ed: 4 - North Dakota

This is very nice, but why isn't the person holding the camera/phone helping him?! -
It may be a small sample size for THIS season, but it is unfortunately in line with where we've been the past few seasons. Shooting (or lack thereof) is a systemic issue.

Perhaps I use the departure of Craig Smith as a scapegoat. I think you're right - the ball just went in more that season. In addition to Petteway and Pitchford making a lot of shots, we had Gallegos that year, too. He couldn't be left alone. We don't have too many "can't be left alone" guys right now.

What do we need tonight to pull out a win....?

But it's worked so well the last three seasons! -
I hope it remains at 100%.

Clearly, that was time well spent!

I'll agree that this year's team has more talent than previous teams, but I don't think the upgraded talent is good enough to mask coaching deficiencies. So many players are in spots/positions that don't best serve their skill set - especially Jordy, Copeland, and McVeigh. At the end of the day, we need people who can put the ball in the basket. We are as athletic as we've ever been, but that doesn't mean we have good shooters. Maybe our players just aren't as good as we were made to believe at the beginning of the season. With the exception of Copeland, our transfers (Taylor, Palmer, Gill, Okeke) didn't play much at their previous schools. What makes us think that they would be studs here? Palmer barely cracked the rotation at Miami, yet he's supposed to be our leading scorer? This is the Big Ten. This isn't Colorado State. I'm disappointed with last night's game and so many of my thoughts/feelings are currently influenced by that, but I've had these same thoughts/feelings for the past three seasons. And I've seen nothing change. I put most of that on the coaches, but maybe our players aren't that good, either. But I'm a die hard. I love our guys. I'll cheer for them. I want to see them (and the coaches) succeed. I'm just trying to be honest and realistic so it hurts less when we go 14-17.
