I would like @HoiBall to expand on those statements as well. Seems like everything isn't as completely certain as you're saying, although still highly likely.

I need an explanation @HoiBall

Why do I think that Goodman has a vendetta against us and actually knew about this potential ISU/Alabama news and just could not wait to drop it?
-
I actually went to the game last night in Omaha. My buddy who has season tickets for the Jays said the NIT is a chance for the common folk in the upper level seats to make their way down while the doctors/lawyers/wine sippers/folks there solely to be seen typically stay home. It was a good time. Pry had about 6,000 there. Beers still $8 tho.

It is literally insane to me to think that a coach of Hoiberg's status apparently passed on UCLA for us. It's hilariously awesome. I honestly think our consistent lack of success and sheer wanting of ONE tourney win while offering boat loads of cash is going to get this done. It's like we tanked as an organization for 20 years just to pull this off (if it happens).

Hasn't it pretty much been like that all year? Especially after the Copeland injury? We would absolutely be in the convo, if not on the right side of the bubble, if we would've just snagged a couple more wins here and there during the regular season. But it all just felt improbable.
-
If we win two more games I absolutely believe we should at least be in the conversation. I'm only saying a 16 loss team has never made the tournament. That's the main reason I think we're not being talked about.
-
Bottom line is we have 15 losses (soon to be 16, sadly, but realistically) and they have 13 with a better overall SOS and non con SOS. At some point you have to award winning.
-
If you're even projected in the 2nd round nowadays you go regardless
-
Especially with a non-con strength of schedule of 183rd. Maybe if we had a higher non-con SOS there'd be a chance, but I agree I think we're in the win it all or nothing territory.
-
These are realistic expectations that I 100% agree with. This is what we should be striving for after the new hire.
-
Striving to be the Kstate, Iowa State, and Creightons of the world is exactly what we should be striving for. Need to get over ourselves with the “we’re going to win at an even higher level” mentality until we actually have a little success. We are never going to be a blue blood in basketball, and that’s ok, cuz anything can happen in the tourney. You just gotta find ways to make it consistently.

What's your reasoning? You want to talk about building relationships and not having to worry about players transferring every off-season? Otzelberger was able to keep freakin Mike Daum from transferring literally anywhere he wanted if he chose to. And he's got a great offensive mind. I think it'd be a solid hire.

I'm assuming this article is going to talk about how bad the athletic department has been historically in handling basketball. Does football come first? Yes. But it's not like the athletic department doesn't care about basketball. Not as much as they used to anyway. What I'm worried about is fans losing interest because they think the athletic department doesn't care if they decide to hire another mid-major coach. There are many, MANY programs that are currently succeeding after hiring up-and-coming mid-major coaches. I'm starting to get the vibe based on constant hammering of the topic on 93.7 as well as other social media outlets that it's Hoiberg (especially Hoiberg), Lue, Altman, Marshall, Matta, or bust. Anything else fans will be upset about because the athletic department didn't land one of these guys. I, for one, will be completely fine with another mid-major coach, so long as his philosophy is more offensively driven.
