  1. By the way, I'll see your "Nebraska on the decline" and I will raise you six rivals four stars in the last two years.
  2. Allow me to quote the reasons from the article It's hard to argue with that logic.
  3. Actually, that wasn't a "peace" sign. It was "V" for victory. I know but I figured the young'ins on here might have slept though that day in history class. And the old'ins on here just ARE history.
  4. No. Just saying I'm not sure I'd classify Gilmore as "explosive." I also disagree that you can't teach a guy to explode off of one foot. Although I would say it's fairly innate.
  5. P-Allen could explode too. As could Gilmore. I wouldn't go that far.
  6. Put me in, coach. I'm ready to play today. Put me in, coach. I'm ready to play today. Look at me, I can be special teams. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqY7e4bP9PQ
  7. That's what she said?
  8. He flew to Texas yesterday OK, so I was pretty close.
  9. You might want to save that costume for the football game. Not a good idea, It might catch fire if he wore it to the football game... If not that, then someone might open the lid and barf in it. Either way, not sure I'd risk the dumpster (fire) costume.
  10. Actually, that wasn't a "peace" sign. It was "V" for victory.
  11. When they say Nebraska is on the decline and Creighton is on the rise, I think all they mean by that is that Nebraska reached its zenith with an NC AA tournament appearance and Creighton reached its nadir last season. Actually, they are wrong because I believe Creighton could get worse.
  12. You can say that again. Oh wait...
  13. I'm still a fan of the old fade, so ... And he doesn't have one.
  14. Alright, well, fair enough. I put more stock in what I can see for myself. Sometimes a highlight video is significant for what it doesn't show. If it's a highlight vid and they can't come up with much in the way of real highlights, then that's telling you something. I don't know when I started really focusing on videos. I mean I consider other things too, like offers for instance. But I want to see what the kid looks like. I remember digging for video of Brandon Ubel when many on here were doubting his worthiness as a prospective recruit because of his mid-major offers. And I thought I saw plenty of good things from him, except he didn't seem to dunk much, which worried me. For sure a couple of years ago, when we were said to be recruiting Leon Gilmore, I panned him. I didn't think he was that good. I looked at his highlight vid and I didn't see a player that had high major skills. A quick for instance: One clip, he puts his head down to drive to the basket. Now, he could get there against smaller, slower, high school players. But the kid has to look at the ball in order to dribble? That's like 5th grade stuff. Nah, I'll pass. And I maintained that stance even when he vaulted into the Rivals 150 (cresting out in the top 90 IIRC). So, color me unsurprised when he washes out at Creighton. I don't think you have to see a lot of a kid to be able to separate those who maybe have the skills to play at this level from those who don't. Matt Atewe was another one I devoutly said no to based on his film, and my arguments with Swan over Atewe were epic. I'm sure I'm not always right. But, heck, even with far greater opportunity to see far more of a kid, even coaches don't always get it right. But I'm not going to just take Rivals' word for it. I want to see a player in action. I really do believe you can see a lot by watching some video, even highlight film. So long as the clips are more than a second or two long. I want to be able to watch long enough to see how a particular play unfolded, so don't just show the dunk. Show what lead up to the dunk. Anyway, we don't have coaches here to tell us what they think of a particular recruit. So, I'm going to go by what I can see. And I'm willing to share my opinion, which is what message boards are for. And my opinion of this particular kid is that he appears to be pretty good.
  15. Just out of curiosity, bball23, but what information do you turn to when evaluating whether a potential recruit is a good player who will help us compete in this league or not? Honest question. Not trying to stir anything. Are you looking at recruiting services like Rivals? Are you looking at what commentators are saying about him? Are you looking primarily at his offer list? I mean, you seem to have decided this kid isn't anything to write home about. Besides the fact that some recruiting analyst described him as a mid-major prospect, what do you base that on?
  16. Hang eligibility over their head ... and what? That's half a thought. Makes my head hurt reading it and wondering what the other half of the thought was supposed to be.
  17. Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for the info, Swan.
  18. That's Gene Hackman. Your new avatar, I recognize him. Am I the first? Ah, the year of the Gene! Well, it can't be any worse than the year of Walt, now can it? Other than running out of Genes sooner.
  19. They prolly eat a lot, huh? I would not want the starvation of your kids to be on MY conscience. That's enough for me to say let's keep things the way they are. I'll probably get out-voted by all those other heartless bastards out there, though. Just sayin'.
  20. I wish we still had that ROTFLMAO emot. The one that's crying and pounding the floor. That one. Yes, Kyle Marks was an athlete. Holley could jump high but lacked lateral quicks because of chronic knee problems. While Marks was a splendid athlete, he was otherwise extremely, extremely raw. And by that I mean he lacked skill and he lacked hoops IQ. I don't have a link for it, but ... Miles has said he looks at athleticism first. You have to be athletic enough to play at this level. That's his rubric, not mine. I've read that one of the best indicators of explosiveness (and therefore quickness) is leaping ability. Look at the film I posted in the OP. This kid has leaping ability. Look at his ability to throw it down with relative ease for a guy his size. Shows explosiveness. Far greater athleticism than anything I ever saw out of Nathan Hawkins, who had comparable size (as well as major D1 offers.) We've reportedly offered 6'10" guys who can't throw it down with that kind of authority. Now look at skill. What skill did Myles Holley have? What about Kyle Marks? Now watch the video I posted in the OP. Right away, at about the :55 mark of the video, you see a kid who has a really nice shooting stroke. Now maybe that's just the one time all season he made a shot. Except that's not what the write-ups say about him that you and others have posted. Look at the tip pass at 1:16. Shows awareness and hoops IQ -- something Kyle Marks didn't have. Look at the cross-over dribble out top at 1:36. He gets his defender moving left, crosses back over right and drives hard toward the rack, finds a cutter as he's driving and makes a dish. Nice pull-up off the dribble at 2:19. 2:26 -- great pass finding a back-door cutter along the baseline. I could go on. Tell me what things in that video you saw from Kyle Marks and Myles Holley?
  21. Hey, I could be wrong about him. In a year-and-a-half, someone is going to dig this thread up and, if I was wrong, I'm sure I'll be reminded of what I said. I think he looks like a good prospect for a variety of reasons. (I don't care what someone else said about him being a mid-major prospect.) He has explosive leaping ability. He also has the looks of a good shooter. He has a nice-looking stroke. He gets good elevation on his jump when he shoots and has a nice release. According to his film, he has a 4.5 GPA so there won't be any issue of him qualifying. When I compare him to, say, Nathan Hawkins, who was supposed to be our guard of the future, this kid appears much more explosive and I like his jump shot better. Miles says there are 2 things he looks at: 1 is athleticism and that's first. They have to be athletes at this level no matter their skill. Second, he's skilled. So, that's MY assessment. Regardless of what anyone else thinks or writes, that's my assessment. I haven't been afriad to pan guys in the past. I said Leon Gilmore was a stiff while people here were still hoping he'd sign with us. And he was a Rivals 150 player. So, it's not like I just heap praise on Creighton recruits. But I think this kid is good. We'll see.
  22. After we beat Villanova, you'll change your tune.
  23. Sure, they say that now. But if we were to land him, they'd be all like "we didn't really want him anyway." He's definitely a diamond in the rough though...their ability to develop talent is legendary so he'd be stupid not to choose them. Is that Sombig dude different than Sumbig Dude, I thought that's the dude we're looking at for this upcoming class? Aren't they twins? I thought I saw that on some other site? Guess I will try to dig that up. But yeah pretty sure they are twins. But, for some reason, they don't have Rivals profiles. What's up with that?
