Until your starting PF blows his ACL, your starting SG suffers a high ankle sprain, your part-time starter at the 3 gets suspended for not following unspecified rules, your back-up PG tweaks a knee, your back-up SG/SF blows his Achilles, your back-up PF transfers in December, and you've got a guy sitting out as a transfer, and you either play five guys the whole game or go with a couple of walk-ons.

Any player who doesn't have his head right is going to be a drag on the team or, at the very best, just won't help you out. But THIS player, if he finds the motivation he needs, isn't lazy, gets to work and does what he needs to do, has the tools in his tool bag to really help us out. And it's a bonus if we can somehow get him eligible right away.

My understanding is he and Capel didn't see eye to eye. He was a part-time starter as a freshman under Stallings. Showed a lot of promise. And then Capel just didn't play him.

Looking at his sophomore numbers compared to freshman numbers, I can sure see why he decided to leave Pitt. Capel playing him 1/3 of the minutes he was getting as a freshman under Stallings. Apparently drew a lot of fouls as well. Experienced a coaching change at Pitt, didn't mesh with Capel apparently. Then transferred to Nevada and walked into another coaching change. Fact our coach has a 7-year deal with big penalty if he leaves while Shamiel is still in college might be a big inducement. Good numbers as a freshman at Pitt. 6-6 and 235# might fit Hoiberg's vision of a stretch 4.
