2019 C Grad Transfer Jayce Johnson -> Marquette
Norm Peterson replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
There's so, so much stuff on so many recruits, it's really hard to keep up with it all. Which is, frankly, a lot better situation than the opposite, which we've seen happen before. -
With Doc as our D-coordinator, you have to think we're going to play a lot of man, right? I was thinking there's video of Hoiberg's offense from his Iowa State days, but probably not much on his defense. But then it dawned on me we probably know what the defense is going to look like because we watched in person for six years.

2019 C Grad Transfer Jayce Johnson -> Marquette
Norm Peterson replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
That's an interesting point. I was looking at his numbers from last year thinking he would be an ideal addition because it doesn't look like he has a need to be a focal point of an offense and put up a lot of points, but would be comfortable rebounding and protecting the rim. If he's transferring to find a place to be more of the focus on offense, then you're right, it might be an issue. Don't know, we'll have to see I guess. -
Are you one of those guys who keeps that little black book of what things people said years ago to bring them up later? Anyway, my point was that things are so wide open this coming season, it's going to be totally unpredictable until at least the Italy trip how lineups and rotations are going to shake out. You chose to interpret my comments in the least charitable way possible. I think you were just trying to be an asshole because it was me who said it. I don't think you would have reacted that way if it had been someone else. And that's OK; suit yourself.

Go ahead and give it a shot if you want to. It's likely to be laughably, ridiculously off. More than usual.

Here's the thing about the 2019-2020 roster: Don't anyone on this board even TRY to tell us who you think is going to be starting and how many minutes each player is going to get. About the only players I think are locks to start would be Mack at PG if he comes, and Roby if he stays. Other than that, it's like Holy Moly, we've got transfers who did some really good things at the schools they left. You could have a starting backcourt of Mack, Green, Burke. Or it could be Mack, Cheatham, Kavas. Or it could be Mack, Green, Burke, Cheatham, Kavas. It's so wide open, I don't think any of us could possibly, credibly suggest what the starting lineup would look like, let alone estimate an allocation of minutes. So, that annual thread? Don't even try this year.

You need to make room for Cross. This stuff is almost too much to keep up with.

Big hit for PSU. Wonder how long their coach can survive. He can't afford to shed good players.
-
I saw that last night. That guy is stupid.
-
Nope. He played. I posted a highlight vid showing senior-year highlights from multiple games. He scored enough in one highlight vid for this season to equal a career for most high school players.
-
Also, his junior year stats were really underwhelming, where he only scored about 15 ppg, 7 rebounds, 1 1/2 assists, a steal and a block, on a meager 63% from the field and a shocking 30% from 3 point range in 17 minutes per game. I mean, that's not even a point per minute played. Why would any college coach go after a 6-8, 240# kid who can only hit 30% from beyond the arc, dribble behind his back fluidly ... The more I read about this kid, the more baffled I am at his lack of offers. This kid is big-time and we need to reel him in this weekend.

Keeping up with the offers/visits
Norm Peterson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
This weekend, I want 3 commits: 1. Cam Mack 2. Jayce Johnson and 3. Kevin Cross, or 4. Ivan Drago Of the last two, my slight preference based on what I've seen would be Cross. -
I am so on board.

Keeping up with the offers/visits

If Ntambwe is going to check out the draft, the spot we would have been holding for him might otherwise be filled before he pulls out of the draft. I suspect some spots are going to fill up over the next 72 hours. How many are left after this weekend is anyone's guess. But space is going to be limited. -
2019 G Thomas Faber -> Rockhurst
Norm Peterson replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Going off of memory, I think a kid can have 5 officials. I think a school can have 12 per recruiting class. New coaching staff might affect that. Just going off of memory. -
Hopefully he does too.

And Illinois. And Southern Miss.

This is wild. I can't find a recruiting profile for Kevin Cross in any of the recruiting services -- 247, Verbal Commits, Rivals, ESPN, Scout -- none of them. This guy is tooooo good not to have drawn significant attention. What is the explanation?
-
-
According to Kevin Cross's twitter account, Doc Sadler offered him while he was still HC at Southern Miss. This is a high major kid. I have no idea how he managed to fly under the radar, but his passing is ... wow. And it's not the only really good part of his game. I was really impressed by the videos I've seen of him. Again, have no idea how he has flown under the recruiting radar. This kid is good.

I'm not sure people were making it out to be a big deal until someone suggested that it's a sign of bad character if he's working out in Chicago trying to make himself the best draft pick he can be instead of attending class. I don't think that's a sign of bad character, personally.

How in the hell is this guy still available? Did he not play his junior year? Skip the AAU circuit? Suddenly grow 5 inches? What? There's a lot there to like. Suddenly, French kid has some catching up to do.

He missed a dunk and pouted about it while everyone else ran to the other end of the floor, leaving Jaron to pout by himself. That’s why he got booed.
