  1. As a HS senior, he was named Chicago area POY by Chicago Sun Times. Here he is in his final HS game against Chicago Simeon and Talen Horton-Tucker. Verge scored 20; Horton-Tucker had 14 pts, 4 bds, 9 assists and 6 steals in the game. Chicago POY Alonzo Verge Last HS Game vs Simeon! Sectional Final Full Highlights! - YouTube
  2. Help me understand these numbers. He takes a high volume of shots but perhaps not the most efficient? But he dishes assists and draws fouls and hits FTs pretty well?
  3. This guy kicked our tires. Committed to transfer to Tex A&M, declared for the draft, has now withdrawn from the draft, and decided to return to St. Joe's rather than transfer to A&M. But then Dalano Banton decided to stay in the draft, so ... Our roster now looks a little more attractive for a 6-8 PG who was certainly among the better passers in the country. Not sayin'; just sayin'.
  4. If we want to start moving up in the world, we need to go 10-1 in the noncon. It's time to start punching above our weight class. Drop a close one to Auburn and win the rest of the non-con sleight. That's what I want to see.
  5. Can't wait for the Kenpom thread from @49r so I know how good/bad these teams were a year ago.
  6. Love it. Haven't seen anything for tickets yet, though. Did I miss a mailing?
  7. I remember Jordy having some head scratching plays. I don't really remember a lot of head scratchers from Eduardo. That could be his lack of minutes. At the beginning of the season, Eduardo was behind Yvan, who was the returning starter. And then Eduardo caught the 'rona and was out for a month. Then the team caught the 'rona and couldn't practice for a couple of weeks or so. About that time, Derrick Walker became eligible and Eduardo was playing behind him. And so I think Eduardo caught kind of a bad break to begin his college career. Jordy was playing behind ... Well, we didn't really have anyone at Jordy's position. Ed Morrow? Michael Jacobson? Let's see how Eduardo compares to Jordy sophomore to sophomore. I think that will be more telling.
  8. Hate to say it, but it disappoints me a lot for him not to return. I want to be happy for him and I am. But I really wanted to see his veteran leadership back on this team. And I think with a good season, he could vault up the draft boards. But the old saying is "strike while the iron is hot" and the iron might not get much hotter for him than it is right now, so I cannot criticize this decision. Still, one can only wonder how much he would have added to our roster for this coming season. I will say that I do like the idea of putting Huskers in the NBA. Can't hurt recruiting.
  9. Pending further information, smart money, at this point, would be roughly ... 1. Trey ~ 90% 2. Bryce ~90% 3. Lat ~ 80% 4. Derrick ~70% 5. Kobe ~ 51% 6. CJ ~ 49% 7. Eduardo ~ 30% 8. Keon ~ 25% 9. Keisei ~ 6% 10. Wilhelm ~ 5% 11. Quaran ~ 2% 12. Trevor ~ 1.5% 13. Oleg ~ 0.5%
  10. If McGowens likes him I suppose it could happen. Wasn't the word basically that Trey and Xavier Johnson didn't really like each other? If him and Carr are buds, I suppose this could happen, but Carr will be heavily sought after.
  11. So my projected starting lineup just changed a little bit. Not a lot. But a little.
  12. Ameritas Classic Redux
  13. Apparently pulling his name from the NBA draft and will return to St. Joe's rather than transfer to Texas A&M. Jon Rothstein on Twitter: "NEWS: Jordan Hall is withdrawing from the 2021 NBA Draft and will now return to St. Joe's next season instead of transferring to Texas A&M, according to a source. https://t.co/zvLzomFeb1" / Twitter
  14. Yeah, you were happy Tim Cook lost his job as the strength coach because he didn't have the right qualifications competence aptitude age and ability to "relate well with the players." I think I know exactly what you meant. Kurt Joseph added as Director of Men's Basketball Strength & Conditioning - The Haymarket Hardwood - Husker Hoops Central
  15. The PFF Preseason College Football All-Big Ten Team: Indiana's Michael Penix Jr. headlines the quarterback position | College Football | PFF Not a lot of Huskers on the Big Ten 4-deep roster. None on offense; none on special teams (including 2 kicking positions and 2 returner positions); 2 made it on defense. So, out of 27 total positions listed, 108 total Big Ten players, there were 2 Huskers. Two. The average would have been 7.7 (108/14 = 7.7143) I haven't crunched the numbers, but I doubt there's a Big Ten team that put fewer players on the pre-season conference 4-deep.
  16. Juwan Howard. Perfect illustration. NBA guy with no HS connections that you'd have been aware of and he sees success from day 1. I'm really surprised at how well he's done. No guarantee an NBA guy will succeed at the college game. But there's now a precedence to look at and say "this could work."
  17. You asserted, wrongly, that "woke" and "representative" are the same thing. That's not what @jimmykc said. You put words in his mouth. He said "woke." You asserted, without basis, that it's the same thing as "representative." And you, therefore, implied, again wrongly, that when jimmy says he doesn't want anyone "woke" that what he really means is that he doesn't want anyone "black." That's the non-sequitur. It doesn't necessarily follow that to hire someone "woke" is to hire someone who is "representative." Nor does it follow that not wanting someone "woke" means you don't want someone hired who is a minority. "Woke" encompasses a whole set of attitudes and viewpoints that don't necessarily have anything to do with a person's race. I wouldn't have thought I would have to explain this, but here we are.
  18. That was actually my first reaction to what you said.
  19. He'd be a perfect fit for ... Oh, wait, wrong joke.
  20. Non-sequitur. "Representation" and "wokeness" aren't synonymous. And it doesn't necessarily follow that someone who is "woke" will belong to a group that enhances "representation" in any meaningful way. Let's say they hired Steve Kerr to be the next AD. Just supposing. Woke? Oh, for sure. Representative? You want to explain that one to me? Do you think players care more about the political views of the AD? Or that the AD will put them in the best position to be successful? I would love to see them hire Ron Brown as the next AD just to watch you twist yourself into a pretzel.
  21. I think we need veteran presence on this team this year. Having Banton back would be helpful. And it would be great for him if he could prove that those numbers weren't just a lucky day. If he could sustain them for a season, it might vault him into lottery contention. But it's looking more and more like Banton is heading in the direction of the draft and getting paid rather than returning to Nebraska to raise his draft stock into clear first rounder consideration. Oh well, guess we'll have to roll with Bryce and Co.
  22. Can someone remind me of the deets about that time Fred Hoiberg's ISU hoops team had to sleep in a hotel lobby because the ISU AD at the time (Jamie Pollard) went all chintzy on him and wouldn't spring for an extra night stay? Was that at, like, the Big 12 tourney? And the extra night was needed because Fred's team won? Something like that. But my memory on it is hazy. I just suspect that not all of our current head coaches would be on board with hiring Pollard to replace Moos.
  23. KETV says he's retiring.
  24. I'd take Bill Moos over Shawn Eichorst any day. If they promote Matt Davison into the job, I might be done though.
