I can think of worse metaphors. At least he didn't say "we have to all stay on the plantation."

You better not be messin with me. If you're messin with me, you're out of the will. -
Haven't tried it but willing to give it a go. You need a good rye to make a Sazerac, the cocktail of New Orleans.

He had a really good freshman year. PFF ID'd him as like the 2nd most accurate returning Big Ten QB for downfield throws behind the kid from Michigan, I believe. And then he had a sophomore slump. Was thinking too much and not feeling the game well enough. His downfield accuracy was off. I assumed he had undisclosed shoulder issues. You had to hope it was just a sophomore slump and junior season would be a bounce-back year. It wasn't. Honestly, I'd love to just get back to freshman season Adrian. Be wonderful if he was like an improved version of the freshman year player, but I'd honestly just be happy to see him get back to the ability he showed as a frosh.

What will our rotation look like next year?
Norm Peterson replied to huskerbill85's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Going by the ESPN rating system, Edwards would have been around top 40 in the class of 2021. Rivals had him around top 100. From what I've seen of him, I'd say he and Bryce have similar skillsets. Bryce is probably an overall better shooter. That's what makes him an elite, 5-star-level player. But Keon isn't far behind. He has ample athleticism, can create his own shot, and appears to be able to score at all 3 levels. It's possible the only thing that will keep him out of the starting lineup is Bryce. -
This is a bit depressing: 2021 College Football Preseason QB Rankings: All 130 FBS starters | College Football | PFF You'd figure in a good year, we'd have a top 10 QB. In an average year, you'd figure we'd have at least a top 30 QB. In a down year, you'd expect we'd still have a top 50 QB. Nope. Top 75. Out of 130 D1 teams. One spot behind Tristan Gebbia. Near the bottom end of Tier 4, which they describe thusly: "These college quarterbacks rank right in the middle of their peers. Some of them have hardly shown an ability to produce at a quality level and are consistently average. And then there are others who have flashed stellar play but then negated it with poor performances. The signal-callers in this tier need elite supporting casts on both sides of the ball if their teams are to have big years."

Updated musings: Having Derrick for a full season matters. Having an important reserve player not fall ill to Covid for a month during a crucial time in his development matters. Throwing in some offensive firepower like CJ and Bryce matters. Hopefully Lat is more than just a year better. I think he will be. As everyone probably is aware, I was big on Dalano and disappointed not to have him back. We might be able to make up some of his assist numbers, but his rebounding will leave a hole in the lineup that might be more of a challenge to overcome. Lat's a good rebounder but he spends a lot of time on the perimeter. So, while I hope for big improvement from him, he's probably not going to fill that particular void. So it's good news that Eduardo is up to 240#. I feel like we will field a team of better shooters than a year ago. Now that Dalano is gone, we don't return a single player who had more than 1 attempt who was worse than 33.3% from 3-point range last year. Not a single one. Everyone we bring back with more than 1 attempt was at least 33.3% from three. That alone should push us into the top 5-6 in the league in 3-point accuracy. To add to that, I think we bring in at least 4 guys who each should be mid-30s or better. I feel like we have to make a move this year. We might only get Bryce for 1 season. We need to take full advantage. I think we have some elements, but it'll be interesting to see if we can put it all together.

Assuming @hhcmatt is right about starters ... Trey Bryce CJ Lat Derrick That leaves a bench consisting of ... Alonzo Kobe/Keisei Keon Wilhelm Eduardo I mean, you could swap CJ and Keon if you want. Either group would seem able to make it rain buckets.

He visited Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain. -
I didn't see UCLA on our schedule.

So, who is the 5th player to round out the rotation? I'm assuming Trey, Bryce, Lat and Derrick are basically locks. Trey could just as easily be a wing as a PG. And if he's the primary ballhandler, we have a few options for the other wing. If he's the other wing, we have a couple of options for PG. So, I guess I was really curious where you were slotting Trey. B/c if he's starting at wing and someone else is point, it wouldn't seem obvious that Verge would be a backup.

The other day, after Banton decided to stay in the draft, I was thinking (and I was going to start a post by saying "I hate to say this, but ..." and then I decided not to say it, but since you kinda bring it up ...) that, with the players on this team, Cam Mack would have been an assist machine if he could just stay out of his own way. With Cam's speed, quickness and ability to throw darts, this team would be a highwire act. Can you imagine running a break with Trey filling one lane, Bryce another, and CJ or Keisei or heck even Lat spotting up from 3? If Verge has that kind of seeing-eye passing ability and the quickness to break defenders down off the dribble, this could be a really fun team to watch.

I have so many questions I want to dig into, but I want people to have a chance to see/answer the questions above before this thread moves onto something else. Next question is what are you getting ads for in the threads on HHC? @49r and @aphilso1 there was a time in my life where North Woods and hikes in Idaho would have won the day and it wouldn't have even been a contest (hiked through Bryce, Zion and Grand Canyon just this past November). But lately, give me a lounge chair on a beach and let me fall asleep to the sounds of the surf rolling in. Macallan 12 yr is a solid choice for a single malt, and I'm going to have to test out that Maui Coconut Porter.

He probably thinks he can make it up on NIL at DONU and still go to frat parties.

I've been drinking margaritas tonight and I'd probably admit about anything right now. Not drunk. Haven't been outright drunk in decades. But my inhibitions are certainly lowered. Anyone want a good recipe for Barbacoa? I'm feeling really good right now. Full. But good.

Definitely. Glad he was a Husker. Only wish he could have played for a more successful Husker team. If he'd have just stuck around one more year ...

Backup to whom?

One encouraging thing is that all the ASU types I saw on twitter really had nothing but good things to say about him and were wishing him well. One ASU beat sports reporter described him as a good guy on and off the court.

Trey's a junior. Just sayin'.

Edwards could be as good as you hope, @Nebrasketballer. It'll be interesting to see. If he's good enough to crack the starting rotation, it means he beat out some good players to get there, and that would definitely be a good thing for us.
