If last year's team played this year's team 20 times ...
hskr4life replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I said 13 or 14, but it’d probably depend on how the first 4-5 games went for this years squad. If they win the majority, then I could see more. If adversity hits, it could be closer to 10/10 -
Game Day Essentials: Game #11 vs Michigan St
hskr4life replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
How strong is the Big 10? A win tonight is technically a Top 25 win and would also drop the top 25 team to sole possession of last place in a 14 team league that has played 4 or more conference games. -
Things have been off since Ga Tech.

Looking through the schedules now, but I don’t think any men’s athletics team had lost in 2021. And just to think, a few short days ago, we were up on arms about our men’s programs!

Its going to be cool that in 4 days we start our magical run to dancing this year. There I said it. Who wants to come at me?

I know there is some funny sarcasm in here, but it's more truthful than what you lead on as well. Like literally... we could have had a ton more assists had we just made some baskets. We only made 17 baskets, so we tecnically assisted on about 18% of baskets. Still low, but not as low as what could have been had we just made some shots. -
A RANKED NW squad!

When I referenced results, I was talking about actual game results not recruiting so I think there was a misinterpretation there. I love the class we have coming in next year. It’s a great start. But I feel probably the only reason we got the 5* is that his brother plays here. So, as mentioned in another thread, I’d like to see us start picking up some of those types of players outside of family ties. What I was saying is how long does the flashiness of the Fred hire go on vs when we need to start putting up results on the floor to continue to be attractive to recruits? Haven’t seen anyone on the board putting Fred “on the clock” or anywhere near the hot seat, but we’re going to need actual floor results sometime to stay attractive to recruits. Same thing happened when we danced under Miles and when the new arena was built. Shiny new toys are only shiny for so long. We’re in on some really good 2021-2022 guys. Excited to see if we can continue the strong recruiting we have seen so far! -

Despite last night, my dissatisfaction with how this year is going, and my hesitation on the program right now... I don’t think this team is as bad as we showed last night. I don’t think we’re an 0-20 conference team. I don’t think we’ll see another beat down like we saw yesterday. And... I don’t know why... but I don’t think we’ll lose by more than a few buckets on Saturday if we lose. We may pull it out. We need something good to happen to us. Once it does though... it’ll be interesting to see how the snowball rolls. Through thick and thin... GBR forever! -

Some sobering numbers... 70-29... this was an actual score... of our game tonight. That can’t happen. That should NEVER happen. You expect to do that to a SWAC team. OSU hit the 99.9% win prob on ESPN at 15 minutes to go in the 2nd and never dropped down from there. If we had held OSU scoreless for the last 13:43 of the game... we still lose this one. 71% at the stripe... our best number this year? 28% and 15% for FG and 3FG percentages. Yowza. -

Some thoughts after having a few hours to digest. —The snowball is seriously rolling in the wrong direction. We need to turn it around now. I’m afraid it might be too late though. Tonight feels like a turning point. We may just come out firing on Saturday. We also might pack it in. Which team shows up? Which mindset do we take. Important game on Saturday, not just for Ws and Ls. —As was pointed out, I was a huge Miles fan. Loved him as a person and coach. However, I was also really excited about the Hoiberg hire too. I’m not afraid to admit that Tim struggled to put up results... in multiple years — including with the best team we’ve seen around these parts in an long time. I said back then that if we got rid of Tim, we better have a darn good hire lined up. The Hoiberg hire was “flashy” and he was a “flashy” name. It was a “darn good” hire that I was looking for. How long before the flashy goes away and we need to start putting up some actual results though? Especially on the recruiting trail. We have the coach with a name. We have the facilities. We need the results. —Once again, I’ve been sadly disappointed with our offense this year under Fred. It was supposed “look” better this year but I don’t think it looks different than last year or honestly years past. Whether it be the scheme or players... it just isn’t working. —I didn’t expect us to win a ton of games this year or make the postseason. I did however expect us to be competitive in almost every game, win some games against good teams, and win more games than last year. I just don’t see that happening right now. We’ve not competed for a full 40 minutes yet against another P5 team. —Saturday is a new day. Like most, I’ll still watch, cheer, and either be really happy or really pissed at the end of the game. All is not lost until the season is officially over. —As bad as we feel, I also have to think about the boys and how they feel. No one likes getting their teeth kicked in. Stay behind this team! See it through! They deserve support along with any criticism. -

I say kudos to anyone who stuck it out until the end. I’ve never volunteered to put my kid to bed during a game... but I did tonight. My wife about fell out of her chair. Lol. -

I did like Tim. I thought he got a lot out of the little that he had. If you go back-- there were points where I was disappointed and criticized his teams but I don't know that you will. I was excited about the Hoiberg hire and disappointed with letting Tim go at the same time. You can be both. However, it's time to put Tim in the past. Not once this year have I said that I want Tim back or did any comparison between him and Hoiberg. It's time to leave Tim in the past man... it's time to look at this team and coach independently from past years. It's not been good and year 2 isn't looking better than year 1. I'm criticizing THIS hire and THIS coach and THIS team right now because they deserve it. Just like Miles teams. -

Looks like those calls about the "worst Power 5 team" were pretty accurate.
