Georiga Tech (1-2) vs. Nebraska (3-1) Game Thread
Nebrasketballer replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Webster has bailed this team out coming off of the bench multiple times this season. He’s such a luxury to have coming off the bench. -

It’s hard to imagine any other center in Power5 basketball that is weaker with the ball than Yvan is when he gets it 1 foot from the basket. -

If Nebraska plays like this on Friday, Creighton will beat them by 25+ -

I don’t think Trey drawing that foul is any worse than a player pump faking to get the defender in the air and then jumping to initiate with the defender to draw the shooting foul and free throws or a player that steps in front of a player quickly to draw a charge. -
South Dakota St’s schedule is also open from 12/12 to 1/8, so I would think a game on the 17th would be doable for them and they are picked to finish 1st in the Summit League.

UNO would be a logical replacement game that could be played during the open week Nebraska has between Creighton and the beginning of their conference schedule, but UNO is pretty full that week, so that’s doubtful. With that being the case, it would be nice to see Nebraska schedule St Louis that Thursday (12/17/20). The Billikens are currently undefeated, they will likely still be undefeated on the 17th, and they will likely finish the season at the top of their conference, so if Nebraska were to win that game, it would be a quality win. For reference, St Louis finished 49th in the NET rankings last season, so if they finished in a similar position this season, a home win for Nebraska would count as a Quad 2 win, while neutral site or road win would count as a Quad 1 win for Nebraska. If they wanted it to be a neutral site game, they could play in Omaha or Kansas City and both of those locations would be relatively easy travel for both teams. Creighton plays at St John’s on the 17th, so they aren’t using the CHI center.

To me, it would be monumentally foolish for Nebraska to pass up the opportunity to play Oregon on Sunday. With Nebraska’s roster being almost entirely new players, the thing they need more than anything is playing games on the court vs other teams, in order to continue to learn how to play together. With as strong as the Big Ten conference is this season, I’ve heard many analysts say they think the Big Ten will get 10, maybe even 11, teams into the NCAA Tournament. If Nebraska can gel as a team and play well during conference, they could potentially play themselves into the 9-11 range in conference this season. I don’t think they can afford to miss any potential non conference games to gain more experience playing together. Especially a game vs a Top25 team that just happens to be in the neighborhood and wants to play. Additionally, losing this non conference game would push Walker’s suspension back a game. And with the Big Ten being as strong as it is this season, Nebraska can’t afford for Walker to miss any more conference games than he has to, especially considering that Hoiberg has stated on multiple occasions that Walker is Nebraska’s best post player and that he is one of the best leaders in the team.

Making sure to replace any cancelled non-conference games means that Walker won’t have to miss an additional Big Ten game. I think it would be wise to schedule another game to replace Florida A&M.

I’ll wish Sallis well anywhere he decides to go, as long as it’s not Creighton... -

Keeping Up with Old Friends (The Transferred Thread)

Not actually a transfer, but another player that committed to Nebraska, but ended up going somewhere else, Donovan Williams from Lincoln, NE ended up at Oklahoma St and played in their win over Marquette yesterday. He didn't score at all, but had a few rebounds. -
Teddy Allen has done some pretty impressive things through the first few games. I'm interested to see how some of the things he does will translate to the Big Ten, with increase of size/length that most of these conference teams will have, compared to the teams they have played so far this season. I'm hoping he can keep up the success through the conference portion of the schedule.

CDC will decrease COVID quarantine time from 14 days to 7-10 days. If the Big Ten chooses to update their protocol, based on the new CDC guidelines, then it will have impact on the rest of the college basketball season. https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/01/health/cdc-changing-quarantine-guidelines/index.html

In regards to the conversation about Thor in the starting lineup. From everything I've heard from Hoiberg in his press conferences, Fred has mentioned a couple of times that they hadn't practiced much with this starting lineup that they have used in the first few games and that Lat had been practicing at the 4 spot, so he is a little out of position at the 5 right now. To me, it sounds like when Andre and/or Walker are available to play, one of them will start at the 5 and Lat will start at the 4 spot and Thor will come off of the bench. Also, Hoiberg has brought up Walker, unsolicited, in 3-4 separate press conferences over the last 2-3 weeks and has talked about his leadership on the court, as well as saying that he is Nebraska's best post player at this point. That makes me think that he could be the one that starts in the 5 spot, once he is eligible. So my guess is that the starting lineup will have Lat at the 4 spot and Walker at the 5 spot, then Yvan and Andre will sub in for those guys in various combinations.

This is terrible all around -
And watching Michigan, currently ranked 25, I think Nebraska looks just as talented as the Wolverines too.

I’m watching Rutgers right now. They’re currently ranked 24. It could very well be my husker-goggles, but I feel like Nebraska is just as talented, as this Rutgers team that’s ranked just inside the top25 (maybe even more talented). (Assuming that Nebraska is shooting as well as they are capable of.)

If BTN didn’t talk about Nebraska in a short halftime segment, then I would assume it was inadvertent or it was due to time constraints. To me, the notion that there is some conspiracy to suppress Nebraska basketball seems pretty ridiculous. It’s odd to me how people in Nebraska always think there is some conspiracy against Nebraska athletics, whether it’s ESPN, or the Big12 Conference, or refs in the Big12 or in the Big Ten, or conference commissioners, or conference schedule-makers, or now the BTN. It’s almost second nature for some Nebraska fans to think that everyone is out to get them or suppress them. I just don’t get it.

I was going to post this exact same thing based on Hoiberg press conferences, but you beat me to it.

Yvan is seriously terrible on offense. Such a liability and when he’s in, the offense is so disjointed
