Oakland has lost in postseason primarily due to an offense designed for regular season baseball. Mediocre platoon guys all over the lineup that can handle mediocre pitching well. In some ways their rotation designed for regular season baseball as well but the offense the much bigger issue. As for the Huskers, I just hope we win tonight to keep the NCAA dream alive to fight another day.

If we win tonight--- are we back on the bubble?
royalfan replied to Section_316's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It doesn't make any difference how you want to look at it. It doesn't matter if we are on the bubble right now. There really isn't a bubble right now. We only have about a 1 in 12 chance of winning, but we have a very good chance of making the tourney if we win this game IMO. Not sure if that puts us on the bubble now or not, nor do I really care. -
Not as big a high school hoops fan as football for some reason, but really loved your products for football. You do a tremendous job IMO. I think if you gave the schools a little more guidance on some easy to accomplish things, the products would be even better for some schools. Can't get to as many games of interest these days, so it is awesome to be able to watch so many.

So perhaps the focus is indeed shifting to bigs a little more, like I think it should slightly. I am confident Miles knows what he is doing, but he hasn't really coached at a level like this yet where pretty solid big men are needed to win, if not really good ones.
-
To try to be more clear on my point, I wonder if Miles will be more aggressive on big men due to the success he has had on the perimiter. I would assume that there are several other perimiter guys that he liked that we will not have room for. I am curious if he will shift the focus just a touch knowing he can probably still land perimter guys he likes, to try and land slightly better bigs. That being said, I am certainly in the camp that we can win without elite bigs. But landing one every once in a while would sure help.
-
Obviously big men that are excellent are harder to find. There are fewer of them. So my quesiton is, will Miles get more comfortable attacking them harder as the time marches on after coming to the realization that he is having success on the perimiter, at least on paper? I think he may be finding a lot of success with his targets out there and he is more comfortable identifying perimiter talent and closing on them. I am just hopeful he learns what types of bigs we need and can figure out a way to get those kinds of players here. Not sure I made any sense whatsover, just curious what others think of the current recruiting plan and if it needs to be tweeked a shade to the bigger guys, given the somewhat ease of success on the outside. Obviously it is a tricky deal as you want to make damn sure you are strong at the positions your scheme revolves around. I certainly trust Miles, so don't want this to come off negatively.
-
I don't think posts will ever be big parts of Miles system either. But we need bigs that can defend, run pick and rolls with capabilty of finishing and get some offensive rebounds. Miles needs to error on the side of athletic abiltiy and devooping a little more on the interior front IMO.

Tough weekend for President Douche. Creighton loses, Nebraska wins and banned from the enemy message board so he is just left to think, holy shit did I ever fail at life.

Good solid win over a good solid team. -
Continues to dumb down the Creighton fan base. Average Creighton troll guy even thinks this guy blows. Creighton loses numnuts shows up here. What a miserable existence.

Which players would you consider "true points"? Which players who play point would you not consider "true points"? I ask because I might or might not agree with you depending on who you're calling a true point. Smith and Parker. Not sure on Watson yet. How do you not consider Watson a true Point Guard? Well, and if Watson is a true point and so are Smith and Parker, I'd have to disagree with the statement that "I think we will play quite a bit of the games without a true point next year." I mean, I'm not sure how many minutes we'd log next year without one of those three on the floor but I doubt it'll be a ton. I didn't say a ton. I said quite a bit. And I think that will be the case if Petteway is still here. We will have good enough ball handling to allow for a longer better shooting group IMO. Our best outfit will not likely be one with a limited scoring true point guard. And that is why I feel we will see a taller longer more equipped scoring outift, especailly when we play teams that have post presence. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out as Miles will certainly have more options next year than we have seen in quite some time if Petteway comes back. Petteway Shields White Morrow Pitchford type of lineup excites the hell of out me.

I ask because I might or might not agree with you depending on who you're calling a true point. Smith and Parker. Not sure on Watson yet. How do you not consider Watson a true Point Guard? I believe he has some combo guard talents. Not sure how you can consider him to be a true point type for sure the way our offense functions. I hope I am right. We need him to be able to score.

Agreed. Especially when we have a team that can damn near win anywhere anytime. Clearly it can go the other way as well. Getting the big guys back hopefully eases a little bit of the downside exposure.

While Fuller is not going to be mistaken for a good defensive player, he did do a reasonable job of knowing how much room to give whoever it was he was checking last night. I think he has a shot to play average defense by playing smart defense if he gets more minutes to learn that craft. It does help that Iowa is not overly athletic though.

Almost as awkward as the miles-crean post game handshake

My thoughts exactly Norm. I showed it to my wife and she is like WTF is wrong with you, yet she was laughing also. It is incredibly wrong to laugh at it, but yet I couldn't help it. It is funny. And the fact we know it is wrong to laugh at it shows we have good character. -
First of all, I love and admire what he has done here. We don't make the tourney last year without him. As for this season, does he belong playing so much? That is what I am wondering. It seems our defensive scheme is a shade more packed in. It is resulting in him not being quite the menace he was last year IMO. Maybe I am reading a little too much into it but that seems to be the case. And I am not faulting the scheme, it just may not play to Parker's strengths quite as much. Also he is a true point guard type. Limited combo guard abilty etc. It seems Petteway is the one handling the ball most often. If that is the case then we need otpions that are catch and shoot willing shot takers out there IMO. That may mean let Fuller figure it out. Or let Tai figure it out. Or let Smith figure it out. But it needs to be somene that is willing to take the three. I think we can hide the defensive flaws in the new scheme. If we are going to use Parker then we need to use last years defensive scheme that allows him to excel. Otherwise he is not allowed to play to his strengths. And perhaps him coming in limited mintues to create havoc is a role he excels at. Thoughts?

Not even really a discussion. The Shields Rivers Parker etc of now are so much better than then. Way deeper now even though it doesn't seem like it currently.

Absolutely putrid is giving the level of competition far too much credit.

Does anyone hear that hissing sound?

Did you expect to see injuries to Leslee and Moses? Because as I see it, that's more of a factor than the lack of execution so far. No, I think he expected to see more out of Leon Gilmore and Ricky Kreklow and is pissed at how his own team's NCAA tourney hopes are evaporating and so, to make himself feel better, signed up over here and figured he'd come rub our noses in a loss. Exactly what this clown is doing. Incredibly pathetic effort of not being obvious. Dumbing the entire Creighton fanbase down in the process. This has shades of Double Douche written all over it. -
Nebraska (6-3) vs Hawai'i (8-3) Game Thread

Very proud that so many are posting at 3AM. Nice to see so many care. Things will get better fellas. Happy Hollidays to all and travel safely to all of your destinations. -
I don't agree with him but why can't he start a thread if he wants? Possibly because it is directly related to the game that just ended and the post was a direct refleciton of result of such game. Do you think it is necessary to start a thread that "WE SUCK". I know you don't and I know you understand the logic behind dimes post. So, so, so little margin between winning and losing. I absolutely don't think it is necessary. I don't agree with the post. But technically nothing here is necessary - it's a message board. I'm frustrated and didn't feel the need to start a new thread, but I won't begrudge someone he does - even if they are wrong. Fair enough. We are't far off on our thoughts.
