D'Jery Baptiste 2015 C -> Vandy -> UMass
OurDecay replied to ajb5856's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
article on Rivals today discussing Iowa's interest in him. Listed all the schools that have offered...said he was going to set up his official visits after the end of the July eval period. Noteworthy that he indicated UConn had backed off of him. Of the list of schools that have offered, NU should definitely be in the mix for at least a visit. -
Man, he has great touch around the basket. Also that article said he's expected to grow to 6-9 or so. Do want.
-
Look at the difference...working with TP made a huge difference, apparently:
-
Just looked...his last two games at this event, Morrow has only played 14 minutes and 12 minutes and has seemed to barely shoot the ball. Other players on his team playing a bunch more. Wonder if he's worn out from the James Skills Academy or something. His first 15 games on this team he averaged 26 minutes/game. As this event he's gone 19 minutes, 14 minutes, and 12 minutes progressively. Seems odd.
-
Whatever Morrow's timeline is for making a decision, I'd selfishly like him to go ahead and accelerate it. I have to believe that our coaches believe the same thing that we all here have been saying - he's a guy that you want to get committed early, to draw other players with him. I assume by us bringing our entire staff there that we are trying to push him to pull that trigger ASAP. If he was leaning towards NU, you wouldn't think he'd want to wait until the fall to take official visits before deciding, right?

I really liked his tape. Looks like a Big Ten big man. Dude has some presence....would give us defense and rebounding, and is a nice passer. Great glue guy.
-
Really liked that tape...nice shooter, great scorer
-
I'm in complete agreement with this. I've seen some people questioning him (not on this site) but as far I'm concerned if came here he'd be the best prospect we've had on campus in decades. We've never had a guy that just attacked the rim like he does. Just imagine if he keeps growing...sheesh.

PG Kevin Dorsey from Virginia ...a 2015 Rivals Top 150
OurDecay replied to trickey's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
The way I'm seeing it, right now none of these kids want to be the first legit player to pick Nebraska. Nobody wants to be the guinea pig. At some point, we need a kid with legit offers from other major programs to say "you know what...I'll be the first of my kind at Nebraska" and go there. We can't sell sustained success, exposure or a pathway to the NBA. Probably 90%+ of the kids that are top-150 players believe that they have the ability to play in the NBA. It has been so long ago since we've had a legit NBA prospect that he's currently the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA...his career is long over. Even Minnesota (who hasn't had anybody drafted since 2004), or Iowa (nobody since 2007), beats us in the exposure department. At least, thats the perception these kids have. These kids want a stage for people to see what they can do. Right now, we have one current example of getting exposure for a great player. That's the first time in a LONG time for our program. Negative recruiting against NU right now would be easy. Other coaches are going to call last year a fluke. They'll point to the 16-year track record, the lack of national TV games, etc. And even with Terran...thus far we've shown the ability to create a scorer...but we haven't shown ourselves to be a pathway to the NBA (yet). TP led the Big Ten in scoring yet was projected somewhere in the mid-2nd round in the draft. I won't even get into the other means that schools use to get kids (money, other, etc.). Just from a merit basis...despite all our new positives, if I was the parent of an elite basketball player I would have a tough time sending them to Nebraska if I thought my son had an NBA future. Shoot, last year we weren't even the big story in our own state, other than for a couple of weeks at the end of the year. Imagine that you are Ed Morrow Sr. and ask yourself what you would want for your son. You can send him to programs that have made noise in the NCAA tournament before (where your kid will get great exposure), or you can roll the dice on Tim Miles and Nebraska. That's a real tough call...especially when Nebraska literally has never had their hands on a top-100 type player before...would we even know how to manage him? Promote him? Get the most out of him? These are questions that are being asked. So...until we get that kid & family that decide to try to forge that path for the first time at Nebraska...I feel like we are going to plateau. BUT...if a guy does take that shot (like Morrow), it could have a domino effect. Kids want to see that similar high-profile kids have also picked NU. They want to be a part of a good class. You don't want to be Glynn Watson and pick NU, and the rest of the players in your class heading to Lincoln are 2-stars and 3-stars. Then you wonder if you've made the right choice. Its not a lost cause though...kids pay attention to pedigree. Getting Moses Abraham to transfer here, even though he hadn't been an elite player at G-Town...kids are going to notice a that a former elite prospect picked NU. That is why Andrew White is potentially HUGE. This is a kid that has plenty of options, is a former top-50 player, and is coming from KU. If he picks NU...it will open eyes of recruits and parents across the country that yes, Nebraska is a legitimate place to consider. All we need is that first one. And like some have been saying...we need it to happen soon. The longer we go without a commit...that will make us less attractive to recruits also. -

Andrew White III - Kansas Transfer
OurDecay replied to uneblinstu's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
This. Incredibly detailed and complimentary. White broke down everything he saw about us, and all the positives, in really deep detail. Kid is incredibly mature. He's still taking other visits, as expected...but I think we made as good an impression on him as we possibly could. Will it be enough? Who knows. But if nothing else his quotes about us should end up getting emailed to other guys we are recruiting. He sold NU pretty well. -

Reading that article from Rivals, I came away with a couple impressions: 1) What an incredibly mature kid. Has a very reasonable thought process. And it doesn't sound like he's the type that will be get caught up in the 'moment'. 2) The fact we are his first visit, per him, is a logistical issue...not necessarily a preference issue. He intends on taking multiple visits. He's a thoughtful guy, I cannot imagine him committing to NU on the spot, even if he loves it. I think his parents will encourage him to take multiple visits. Fortunately, his parents are with him now on the way to Lincoln...so if we can sell them, we'll have a chance. I didn't come away from that article thinking we are the leader. We are just one of his choices. And that's a good place to be...but we will need to appeal to him on a rational level. -
2015 PF Michael Jacobson - Signed

Rivals lists: Drake Indiana St Iowa St Northern Colorado Northern Iowa Princeton UTEP 247 adds: Lehigh Brown Wyoming The Iowa St offer is either new, or a typo by Rivals. We are far and away his best offer. He's great academic kid....he would be best served going to a place like Princeton IMO. I'm not a big fan of his game...I hope that we don't end up having to take him. -
D'Jery Baptiste 2015 C -> Vandy -> UMass
OurDecay replied to ajb5856's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Anybody heard anything about him making an unofficial? Robin had reported that was their plan a month ago (He and Herard were both going to come up)...they were supposed to come up in "mid-June". Its June 22nd, and as far as I can tell Baptiste hasn't gone anywhere. -
Is that him swatting Kye and making the pass to Hammond? Yes, I believe so

We are going to love Tarin Smith

Article today on Zags Blog: http://zagsblog.com/recruiting/edward-morrow-holds-a-dozen-offers-looking-for-more/ Edward Morrow Holds a Dozen Offers, Looking for More June 15th, 2014 8:52 am By NICK MEDLINE Special to ZAGSBLOG Edward Morrow perfectly summarized the importance of the upcoming July evaluation period. “I wonder: ‘Wow. What’s going to happen?’” he told SNY.tv. “It’s really big considering the fact that I have a long list of 30-40 schools that are interested.” The 6-foot-7 power forward from Chicago Simeon High holds 12 offers—which he attributed to his “energy.” With better performances in front of college coaches, he should prepare for even more. For now, the Rivals No. 106 prospect for the class of 2015 has offers including Creighton, Iowa, Florida State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Southern Methodist. “The schools recruiting me the hardest are the ones who have offered me,” he said. “The key thing is somewhere I’m going to be happy, and where I can stay four years and be successful.” One key player during the process will be—and has been—Nebraska and coach Tim Miles. His parents attended Nebraska and “opened up” about the program once he earned an offer. “I will say [Nebraska] is recruiting me the hardest,” he said. “It was the second school that offered me. I went on an unofficial visit there as well. “Tim Miles talks a lot about me being a ‘three-four,’” Morrow said. “He can see me expanding my game and a lot of opportunities for the future.” Still, consider this recruitment wide open. Morrow said he’s heard from powerhouse programs including Florida, Michigan, Kansas and Georgetown. And in July, he’ll try to impress coaches while playing for an excellent Mac Irvin Fire team. “They say I have a motor,” he said. “They just want me to play my game… They want to see me shoot the ball, taking those 15-footers, and continue to get the ball on the floor like I have been.” A potential July breakout star, Morrow could be poised for an even busier recruitment. Robin had an update on Andrew White on Rivals this morning. Nothing really noteworthy, other than the fact he confirmed that there is still mutual interest and we are still working on lining up a visit with him.

Alex Illikainen - PF - 2015 prospect -> Wisconsin

Interesting comment farther down that page too: "Ed Morrow is hearing a lot from Nebraska and Minnesota. Ed grew up in Nebraska and around the Cornhuskers’ campus, and his parents were student-athletes there. Morrow likes the Gophers’ coaching staff and style of play. He watched the Gophers win the NIT. In my opinion, Ed is similar to Rodney Williams. He has athleticism oozing out of him. He’s not a back-to-the-basket guy and never will be, but I think he’s better suited for the 4 right now than the 3. He’s a defensive presence down low that blocks a lot of shots. On offense, Morrow scores a lot of points near the rim. He had five dunks against Wings Elite." -
Was just looking around at some sites, and there hasn't been any word on Andrew White III from ANYWHERE in at least 12 days. Likewise, I looked at his twitter and it is on radio silence. I assume this kid and his family are continuing to look at their options, but they are doing so VERY privately. I like that kind of personality a lot. I hope he picks NU. Heck, for all we know he's already visited us and kept it quiet.
-
One thing I was...discouraged...about in Robin's article on Rivals is that it appeared Watson considered our facilities and CU's as essentially equal. Is that really true? I know CU recently made some improvements but I can't believe NU doesn't have better facilities overall. I don't know enough about CU to pay attention to what they've been doing. FWIW, Robin kind of hinted tonight though that he thinks Purdue is the leader, as they've been on him the longest. Hoping we land him.
-
At this point, lets just worry if we can out-recruit Creighton for a recruit. Those battles (or perceived battles) have not been going good for us lately.
-
Lets just grab: Ed Morrow, PF (Rivals150) Glynn Watson, PG (Rivals150) D'Jery Baptiste, C Andrew White III, SF (former Rivals150, transfer) DeShawn Freeman, SG (JUCO AA) ...and shut it down. Heck with it. Seriously though...I'd be giddy about getting 1 of those 5. 2 or more is fantasy territory.
-
his favorites on Rivals have been narrowed to Nebraska, Purdue and Creighton...at least per their database. Fairly positive article (from the NU perspective) on Watson posted there today. He is Rivals' #67 overall player (4-stars).
