  1. That might be the most positive article on him I've read yet. Great find.
  2. He will be a Husker. Edit: that's not based on any inside info...just my prediction.
  3. bb73 said it better than I did: The Dwight Smith option has sailed. He isn't coming here. Unless people are actually suggesting we give a one-year scholarship to a kid who is otherwise going to NDSU, N Colorado or Furman? And in 3 years at CSU, as a shooting guard has averaged a collective 3.5 PPG and shot 28% from 3-pt range. We can, and should, do much better than that. If he wasn't a Nebraska native people would lose their damn minds at the idea. I'm okay with leaving the scholie open, or actually finding an immediately eligible player that we think can help us...which I don't think is Smith. I don't hate the kid, but I just don't see the appeal or how he fits to what we are trying to become here. JMO
  4. Per 1620 a couple days ago, Dwight Smith has his choices narrowed to two small schools..,Northern Colorado and somebody else. Not sure why people keep bringing him up as an option, unless he agrees to walkon
  5. Playing good defense is a team thing, not an individual thing. We were not exactly flush with great on-ball defenders last year, but by playing to our assignments and playing good help defense, we manufactured effective defense. As mentioned above, I don't think Shields is necessarily a great on-ball defender, and we saw a number of our players individually get exposed defensively...but a good defensive concept doesn't make you reliant on stopping people 1-on-1. Maybe that's what they've grown accustomed to at KU because they are loaded with elite talent top to bottom, but for us mere mortal programs, we can live with a guy that can't defend on an island. If you believe in recruiting rankings at all (and they shaky, but still relevant), White would be the highest-rated prospect to be a Husker in the Rivals (2002-present) era by a LONG way. Dude was the #51 overall player in 2012 per Rivals, and recruited by most of the country. I think he would blossom in this environment.
  6. That Rivals update was shockingly positive for us, I thought. Sounded like a real chance he comes here. His dad talked about wanting to find a school and fanbase with a great desire to get better and better, and the way he said it made it sound like he was trying to describe Nebraska. It sounded like dad and the kid both had been educated on NU by somebody. I'm officially intrigued.
  7. Something we can sell to potential transfers: Terran Petteway: TTU 2011-2012 (Fr.) = 3.1 PPG, 2.0 RPG (28 G, 11 GS) NEB 2013-2014 (So.) = 18.1 PPG, 4.8 RPG Walter Pitchford: FLA 2011-2012 (Fr.) = 0.5 PPG, 0.3 RPG (11 G, 0 GS) NEB 2013-2014 (So.) = 9.3 PPG, 4.7 RPG Leslee Smith: SMU 2011-2012 (rFr.) = 3.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG (25 G, 6 GS) NEB 2013-2014 (Jr.) = 5.4 PPG, 4.8 RPG
  8. I'll be honest, I think I like this kids videos and upside more than Cornish. Cornish was not nearly as explosive. I would definitely take Mr. Gregory.

  10. Pretty disappointing IMO...we haven't seemed to have been seriously pursuing any of the other available transfers (see the Transfer thread). It looks like we put all our eggs in the Deng and Cornish baskets, and didn't pursue some transfers in parallel. So now we are starting all over it appears. If our intent all along was to pursue transfers i would hope we've been doing that all along, not only after Cornish and Deng fell through.
  11. Lets just be clear about UNLV. Some of their recent recruits: 2014: G Rashad Vaughn - Rivals 5-stars (#8 overall) F Dwayne Morgan - Rivals 5-stars (#15 overall) C Goodluck Okonoboh - Rivals 4-stars (#31 overall) 2013: G Jelan Kendrick - Rivals 4-stars (JUCO) F Christian Wood - Rivals 4-stars (#40 overall) 2012: F Anthony Bennett - Rivals 5-stars (#7 overall) G Katin Reinhardt - Rivals 4-stars (#38 overall) F Savon Goodman - Rivals 4-stars (#72 overall) These guys have recruited 7 players ranked among the top-75 NATIONALLY over the last three seasons. They aren't beating the likes of Nebraska and Wake Forest for those dudes. They are beating Duke, North Carolina, Florida, Kansas, UConn, Kentucky, Arizona, etc. How are they doing it? I don't know, and it doesn't matter...but the fact remains that if they can out-recruit absolute blue blood programs for guys, clearly they have something pretty compelling going for them. Should we really be surprised that a kid they tell "hey, we'll make room for you" would want to jump on that? I get all the turnover and transfers and yada yada yada...but guys who literally can go anywhere in the country are choosing to play at UNLV. I don't think if Cornish in fact picks the Rebels we should tear the kid down (I do hate his twitter behavior though, but I digress) like he made a dumb or ill-informed decision. All we can do is sell a kid on our strengths, and hope that's enough. UNLV is kind of a gorilla in the recruiting game. JMO
  12. Athletically, he should be in the NBA right now. I don't see NU having a chance in hell here. I'd just be tickled if he just makes his unofficial visit. We've already established I'm not a fan of moral victories in recruiting, but I'd have to think all the big boys will jump all over him.
  13. Just came across this video posted on May 6, 2014. Looks to be a mix of older and more recent highlights. He is a dang circus freak though...seriously...wow.
  14. I really think Morrow ends up a Husker. I don't think we should read too much into the fact he hasn't committed yet, either. He's consistently said he's going to take his time.
  15. I don't know what the policy is in the recruiting forum on reposting from other sources, but I did actually get this blurb emailed me today, supposedly from JC Shurburtt at 247. Apologize if this was already posted, but I didn't see it in this thread: "Shooting guard Jordan Cornish (New Orleans, La./Brother Martin) told Taylor Bern of the Las Vegas Sun that the UNLV staff has made him a top priority and also cited the storied tradition of the program, along with his relationship with five-star Runnin' Rebels signee Rashad Vaughn as a reason that UNLV is under heavy consideration. He visits Las Vegas this weekend and will decide next Tuesday. Nebraska and Wake Forest also are under consideration. Currently, all signs from sources point to the Runnin' Rebels." To me, that sounds pretty locked down for UNLV. I think in his mind he's already there, especially if they will make room for him. I don't even think logic plays into it much. UNLV has definitely sold him on an idea before he's even set foot on campus.
  16. Oooh...good call on the UW game in 91. I was there as well..it might have been where we sat for that game. Both were very intense.
  17. I had season tickets from 1993-1998, and also went to a bunch of games in the 1990-1992 years...in my mind, the Wisconsin game at PBA far surpassed any of those games in terms of atmosphere. The reasons for that are expectations & stakes. Frankly, in my opinion our basketball fans have never been more hungry for success and hope than they were this last year. During the Nee era, NU sustained a high level of success...going to multiple NCAA tournaments, etc. But we hadn't exactly been "bad" prior to that. I think it is worth reminding people that in a 19-season span from 1980-1981 to 1998-1999, Nebraska: Had 17 winning seasons in 19 years (.591 winning percentage) Went to 15 post-season tournaments in 19 years (6x NCAA, 9xNIT). While they went 0-6 in the NCAA, they also went 19-9 in the NIT, three times making it to New York, and winning the NIT in 95-96. Went .500 or better in conference play 12 of the 19 seasons. Had eight (8) 20-win seasons. Had an average RPI of 57.2 during that span, and an average SOS of 44.6. NU had a top-55 RPI twelve (12) times. The following era of dispair, of course, started in the last year of the Nee Era (1999-2000). In the 14 seasons from the start of that season thru the end of last year, Nebraska: Had only 6 winning seasons in 14 years. Went to only 5 post-season tournaments in 14 years (all NIT). They have gone 3-5 in those games. Went .500 or better in conference play only ONCE (8-8 in 2008-2009) in 14 seasons. Had one (1) 20-win season (2007-2008). Had an average RPI of 112.1 during that span, and an average SOS of 60.7. NU only had one top-80 showing in the RPI...#74 in 2008-2009. THAT is the backdrop and context for the 2013-2014 season. To say that our fans were "hungry" for success would be an understatement. You saw that all come pouring out during that Wisconsin game. To find an equivalent relevant to NU, I'd have to go to football. I was a student at NU from 1993-1998, and the crowd with NU in 1993 & 1994 was much different (better) than it was even in 1995-1997. Because our fans flipped from hunger and desperation into expectation. People grumbled in the stands during those seasons, and we were winning national titles. I actually think the best equivalent in football might be the 1992 night game vs. Colorado...which as it turned out signaled the start of a new era for the football program. That is maybe the loudest NUFB crowd I've ever experienced. The fans were hungry. Back to NUBB, I think fans let expectations detract from their emotions and fervor in the Nee era. And under Collier and Sadler, I think fans never got the sense that we were truly building anything as a program, so even those stray upset wins sort of felt fleeting like fool's gold. The Wisconsin game felt like a step on a flight of stairs towards a new place that NU basketball has never been. Just my (long) take.
  18. I also do think there's some question as to this kid's ability. Early on, probably based on his offers and interest, he was a Rivals150 recruit. Now, he's unranked. I'm not entirely sure he's as good as his self-reported offers suggest. Plus, there are some red flags out there if you are to believe twitter. I'm okay with him going to Iowa.
  19. I don't know that a recruit who had Florida, Vandy, Memphis, UNLV, Ohio St and Iowa as his other favorites recently is a guy we could land if we just tried a little harder. Now, if you're talking about a year ago....Per the Huskers Rivals article back in June 2013, when we offered him he already had offers from Florida, Auburn and Vandy, and a host of other majors showing interest. We held off offering earlier than that because he had (by his own admission) a bad showing at a camp we attended. Nothing about the way he talked in that article suggests that he was a Nebraska lean, and certainly not ours to lose. He talked about building a great relationship with Craig Smith, nothing more than that. If you look at his other Rivals updates: Jan 25, 2014: Lists Florida, Vanderbilt and Memphis as favorites. Mentions NC State, Texas, Notre Dame and Iowa St as showing interest. Feb 13, 2014: Top three of Florida, Vandy and Memphis. Mentions interest from Iowa and Texas. Mentions offers from Nebraska and Auburn. Since then, he talks about CSU offering and then lists about 10-15 new schools that "have interest". I have some concerns about our recruiting here at NU, and am an impatient person. That's already been discussed here. But I don't see this as a failing in any way at all. I see this as a kid who loves attention, and is playing some games. If he really had an actual offer from Florida like he repeatedly claimed, and they were his leader...why didn't he commit? His brother goes to school there too. He has a consistent top three for over a year, and yet Iowa can essentially swoop in and "grab" him. Its a little fishy.
  20. As I understand it, and per an article in the Chicago Tribune a couple years ago, I don't believe that is the case. I seem to recall it was family related. The Morrows do not strike me as the type that are overly infatuated with getting maximum exposure for their son. And further, Edward himself was quoted not long ago as saying that even if high-majors started banging down his door, he wanted to play for one of the schools that had been with him from the beginning. Minnesota, Nebraska, etc. People seem to keep waiting for the shoe to drop on Morrow and some bluebloods to swoop in and grab him. I'd be more worried about the schools that have been after him as long as we have.
  21. He's got a Big Ten-ready body. He's grown a lot in the last year and is a pretty solid 6-6. He's not overly explosive but I thought he had a smooth jump shot in the limited video I've seen of him. I think he's grown 2 inches in the last year, which is part of why there are multiple height/weights listed for him on services.
  22. Schneider does not look like I expected him to.
