On the subject of academics, I heard an interesting perspective a number of years ago from Lee Roy Selmon (now deceased) when he served as athletic director at University of South Florida--as impressive a speaker as he was a football player, by the way. The essence of what he said is this: student-athletes who graduate tend to hold, in later years, a highly-positive view of their collegiate experiences; while those who do not graduate tend to hold a highly-negative view of their collegiate experiences and tend to believe that they were improperly used and abused by the system.
