Good learning experience for our young ones. But UConn I thought had us well scouted. They shut down everything we did well in the 4 previous games. We struggled all game trying to work it into the post.

Notice how their defense let our shooters shoot who were struggling the most the previous 4 games. Every shot Rachel took there was a defender right in her face Natalie and Jess too. We've got to finish around the bucket better.  KC needs to make that outside shot when she's wide open. Maddie's going to get more minutes once she figures out the defense.

Might not seem like it now but we'll learn from this and we'll see a big improvement as early as next Thursday against NC State. That said I don't see us losing another game this non conference.

We need to get some consistent scoring from the wing position when we play decent teams.  Haven't seen the consistency yet.

disappointed in Clark's 3 pt shooting.  Time for it to still come around though.

In an online article:

UConn advantage off 22 turnovers to score 25 points and pounded more home (46 points) from the inside.

True, we were not good defensively in the paint. We've got to work on that. We got pulled out from the basket trying to defend, and they made us pay. They kept getting behind us, and had short shots and mostly layups inside. There is a method to their madness.

I do feel like we were better than they thought we would be, coming into the game. They had to step it up....and they had the ability to do so. Stewart is their savior though...without her they're a different team.  It was interesting watching her. She's got about all the skills...not a leaper, but seemed to be in excellent playing condition. She played lots of minutes.

Bring on the next game....will be interesting to see how our girls respond.

Nebraska Head Coach Connie Yori

On the game

“If the game had ended at the six minute mark we would have been fine. It’s a 40 minute game and we got exposed in a lot of ways. I thought we stayed positive. There is a reason why UConn has won 10 National Championships. There’s a reason why they are as good as they are. They obviously have great players but they have great detail and discipline as well. Not every talented team has those things, and that is what sets them apart.”

On their defense

“We have played nothing even remotely in the vicinity, in the same galaxy as the competition level we saw today. We got exposed. I thought we played well early, but as the game got going we got to cognizant of our own players. Our help defense wasn’t very good, but again, UConn will expose what you are doing wrong.”

On the play of Jessica Shepard

“Jess has got a chance to be a very good player for us. Just like a lot of freshmen, she has a lot to learn. She needs to continue to learn how to play hard and be consistent doing that. She isn’t in the basketball shape we want right now, but she is someone who has lots and lots of ability and can be a great player for us if she continues to do the right things.”

On what she will take away from this game

“I think we can find some good possessions. We can say we played x number of good possessions out of x number.”

On having a young team in this environment

“I thought our start was great, which means we weren’t playing scared. Then the cumulative effect of their discipline and structure and great players wore on us.”

"She's got about all the skills...not a leaper."

well, not sure i agree there. uconn really doesn't need her under the basket because she is so strong playing off the wing. she just has all the skills and i think if she had to be underneath, she could hold her own. a couple times she did go to the basket (one on a rebound), she got up there---a lot of posts weren't gonna block that shot.

i didn't think the huskers played "scared"---it's just that level of competition will beat you down. one big difference, many of the shots that the huskers missed around the basket---uconn doesn't miss those---or rarely.

UCON bench loaded with top recruits scored 40 points to ours with 7.  A big difference is a really strong bench creates a lot of competition and gives the starters a good look at practices.  Said it before but as each game comes and goes I'm concerned about  our consistent 3 point scoring.

a little early yet to be concerned about the perimeter shooting. especially with Clark. one thing that sticks out with me, is, i think coach yori has them more concerned with playing better defense. hopefully, perimeter game will come around soon. i'll be more concerned about it if there isn't more improvement the closer the huskers get to the regular season.

Actually I'm concerned about the 3 shooting. Impatient I suppose. We've played around 5 or 7 games, however you want to look at it, and we still haven't shot the 3 for good averages.

UConn is of course the exception, drilling 3's at will.

Was wishfully thinking I guess,  to see the three keep us in that game somewhat, but we we're getting three shots blocked, or not able to shoot at all.  (get the inside game contained and that's the result apparently)

Obviously....Just the reverse, score inside and the perimeter will open up.

We really can't wait. There are big games coming up very shortly. I get we're rookie filled, and a new team generally, but the rookies aren't shooting many 3's much anyway. We've been shooting about 50% overall, (except 32 or so at UConn) which in the area you should be....but the 3 not so much.  We need 5 to 10 per game ?

It would seem we have a few that can make the shot, .....go to it girls !

DePaul gave UConn a game last night.  Wound up losing by 16, but they were within 9 to start the 4th quarter.  DePaul shot 41.3% FG, with 44.8% from 3 (13 3pointers).  They were outrebounded 47-27, turned the ball over 16 times compared to UConn's 17.  Sounds like they were making their shots early and running on UConn, which maybe rattled UConn for a little bit.

i noticed that DePaul's two transfers from Illinois (Coleman and Grant) must have got some kind of waiver (or whatever) from the NCAA to play this season. they are showing up in the box scores. i suppose the situation at Illinois must have caused the NCAA to let them become eligible right away?

DePaul puts up a lot of 3's. they just might give a lot of teams fits as the season moves on. think they were rated in top 15-20, last i noticed.
