That's a pretty challenging slate. One that looks like it was set up to make an NCAA Tourney run. Very curious to see how this group handles that challenge.

First look puts Gardner-Webb in the Incarnate Word/Samford seat.

“When I look at our schedule, I can’t help but think that we’re building a resume for an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament,” Nebraska Coach Tim Miles said. “I see great depth and quality among our opponents. We are in the Wooden Legacy matched up with Dayton and the same side of the bracket as UCLA.  We have Creighton at home, and we are at Kansas and at Clemson.  In Big Ten play, our double plays are Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa and Northwestern. There are great opportunities for this team to get high-quality wins. It should be exciting for the fans, and challenging for our program, and that is exactly what we want.”

If we make the dance...we'll have earned it

If we can find a way to go say....9-3 with our non-con we may be in good position for an at large spot.  .500 Ball in the Big 10 puts us at 18-12...may take one tournament win but that should give us a solid RPI and SOS.

Sweep the non-con home slate...and hopefully 1-2 wins in the tournament and or a win @Clemson.

I think it's Southern. Gardner-Webb graduated a lot of guys and Southern is typically among the top of the SWAC pile.  Both games will be during the winter break though

Expect to see a lot of this from this from the local wags leading up to the season.

Hard to disagree until Miles actually beats them.  It's only one game but I think that's a pretty important one for him this year.  Probably will be pretty close to a pick em at home.

I wonder if the Big Ten conference season will be starting even earlier this year. No non-conference games after December 20th...

Two quick observations:

1.  Hate the inclusion of the University of Mary game.   I get it is Miles alma matter and all but it takes a win off the table for us, even if we win on the court.

2.  Aren't we short another game?   Aren't we eligible to play 13 non-con games.   We have 12 here and one of them is against a lower level school

We don't have much, if any margin for error.

Hate to say it...but I think Creighton will be pretty good this year.

Nah, It's GW. I had to miss both the Incarnate Word and Samford games and looking at the schedule, it's unlikely I'll be at the GW game. So, it clearly is the candidate here.

My only question is the University of Mary game...that won't count against our RPI right? In addition...that game likely won't be on our win/loss numbers if we are luckly enough to be on the Nitty Gritty report right?  That would be my only concern from a total number of wins standpoint...not sure if College Basketball works like it does with Baseball.

Is this the year that we play in NYC a week early for our conference tourney and is their potential for us to play a game inbetween that tourney and the NCAA tourney?

Doesn't count against us in the RPI but also doesn't count for us.

It's not even about the head to head matchup. Miles and McDermott have a weird history that kinda defies logic. I think when you get to the end of the season, it won't be nearly as obvious that CU has more talent than NU. Maybe not even by the time you get to conference play. And I think CU will be pretty good next year.

I had the wrong year. It's DC this year and NYC in 2018. Not really sure why we aren't playing 13 non-conf games

Really hope we're looking to add some.   Don't think this is a good situation for us.

This upcoming season the conference tournament will be played in Washington, D.C.

The NYC B1G tourney at Madison Square Garden is going to be the following year (2018).

I'd go find 2 patsies...even 300 level RPI teams to add two wins.  Move the University of Mary to an exhibition game

I think it's pretty much set in stone at this point with an exhibition game and, presumably a closed scrimmage still to come.

Yeah....the Mary game doesn't make much sense and may really hurt us if we find ourselves on the bubble next year.  I like the schedule outside of that...gives us a chance to make some noise.
