We can vent all we want about the selfishness on offense, but if we are going to give up 83% shooting on the defensive end, this team won't beat anyone that is above division II.

Defense is a total team effort. It is difficult to work hard for that guy next to you if you are still mad at him for that shot he just took.

Not that +/- really means as much in basketball as it does in hockey, but the numbers for the UAB game are interesting when you look at how most people feel about our team's play just by watching the game...

Petteway -19 (worst on team)

Parker +4 (best on team and only guy with a + number)

So there is definitely some merit to the thought that Petteway killed us against UAB and Benny was doing a good job.

Do you feel the sample size is big enough to feel confident that players were playing bad defense because they were mad at Petteway for taking a certain shot?

Through 5 games, Petteway has taken 23.9% of our shots. Here is who has taken the most percentage of shots for our teams in recent years:

2012-13 Dylan Talley (24.9%) (really only had a 7-man rotation though)

2011-12 Bo Spencer (24.5%)

2010-11 Jorge Brian Diaz (16.6%)

2009-10 Ryan Anderson (8.3%)

2008-09 Steve Harley (18.5%)

2007-08 Aleks Maric (19.2%)

2006-07 Aleks Maric (23.4%)

2005-06 Wes Wilkinson (17.3%)

2004-05 Joe McCray (23.1%)

2003-04 Nate Johnson (16.5%)

2002-03 Andrew Drevo (19.9%)

Talley and Spencer both took a greater percentage of our team's shots in the past 2 years, but no one else in the past 10 years took more. Talley didn't seem like a "ball hog" because who else was there to score? Bo Spencer averaged 3.3 assists per game (Petteway at 1.2 right now). I don't know what any of this means. Just thought it was interesting to look at. It's weird that Nebraska basketball fans would EVER complain about a guy scoring 28 and 21 points in consecutive games, when in the Doc years a player reaching 20 points seemed like a milestone.

Yeah exactly.  Not going to see me bitching if he is putting the ball in basket.  He is getting to the line as well.  I think( and hope I am right) that is an able and willing passer.  Time will tell.  We haven't seen enough yet, at least I haven't to make blanket judgements of him being a guy that makes us worse.  If anything it is the other way around for me, but again time will tell if my reads are accurate.
