Like fellow Nebraska native Andy Roddick at the same age, Sock wears his cap backward. He lacks Roddick's power but is a dogged baseliner with a tricky kick serve.

My brush with greatness is that I played Jack when he was 14. I was just out of playing college tennis at Wesleyan and as good at tennis as I ever was. At 14 Jack was about 5' tall but was already #1 in the 16s division. I was expecting to lose maybe 6-3, 6-2, well he blitzed me 6-0, 6-1 in about 40 minutes. Pinpoint groundstrokes and now he has a big serve to go with them.
